August's swap will be sender's choice for a Dotee or a "regular" doll with arms/legs. Theme is going to be BACK TO SCHOOL. Possibilities for this are endless...it could include shopping for new school clothes or your doll all dressed up for his/her first day of school (Pre-K? Collage? or teacher).

If you haven't participated in one of my swaps before, all I ask is that you read this first post.

I don't send or PM a pattern. If you do a little research, there are many helpful tips and some patterns posted in some of the other doll swap threads, among many other places on the www. Just keep in mind the guidelines.

There is info for each type of doll below...

RULE #1: READ ALL THE RULES AND ALL OF THE FIRST POST OF THIS THREAD!!!!

Anyone with a no-send will not be added to the swap list.
You must be 18 years old or older to participate.
AFTER I assign partners in mid-June, you need to PM your mailing info to the two members that will be making your dolls.

"RULES":
1. Thoroughly read this first post.
2. If you have "no sends" (dolls not yet sent from previous swaps), complete those before signing up for another one.
3. You make the dolls from start to finish. Please don't buy doll bodies or pre-made clothing--that isn't fair. They are a lot of fun. Everyone is on a different level.
4. If you want to participate, make it clear in your post so I don't accidentally sign up an innocent by-stander! (yes, I did).
5. HAVE FUN!

This is a swap where you will make two dolls to be sent to two different participating members. You will receieve two dolls from two different members in return.

NON-DOTEE (REGULAR-TYPE):
What/how: (for one doll) Take two 6 to 8-inch fabric squares--right sides together--and cut out your doll-shape. Sew, leaving an opening for stuffing, turn right-side-out. Stuff. Stitch shut. You may wish to draw a pattern on paper first, then trace onto the fabric. Each doll will be unique.
Or do it completely your own way, staying within the 6-8" requirements.

NOW GET CREATIVE! Add clothing, hair, buttons, beads, ANYTHING you desire! Most of all HAVE FUN!

These dolls don't weigh much, so they can be shipped pretty cheap. They will go first class in most cases, unless you are using something REALLY heavy in/on your doll.

Don't forget to take pictures of your dolls before you send them out. Post pictures of the dolls you receive, and of the dolls you make after they have been received by their new mommy.

I will assign partners near the end of July. Then, you can PM your mailing address to the swappers that will be making your dolls. Try to have your dolls in the mail between 1 August and no later than 8 August!!
***If you are mailing overseas or out of your country, you might want to get the package in the mail sooner if possible.*** Terri has informed us that it takes about 10 days for her to receive a package...and I assume it would take about the same length of time for someone in the 48 US states to receive one.

Be sure to remember to take pictures of the dolls you make in case someone you send to doesn't have a camera or a way to post pictures. DON'T post your pictures until after the recipient has gotten her doll so as not to spoil any surprises. I think it's neat to see photos of the doll in her original home and in her new home.

I will create a thread for photos of the dolls.
Have fun!

Here is a link to a tutorial barbsbus posted. It is wonderful. http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/10250.page

THis link will take you to a thread where I posted a pattern of a doll body. Scroll down toward the bottom on the page this link takes you to.

DOTEE DOLLS:
There is a lot of helpful info throughout this thread. This link will take you to page 4. Scroll down about mid-way, and you will get lots of info on Dotees. http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/45/18147.page

Here is the thread for June's Dotee Doll pictures: http://www.quiltingboard.com/posts/list/20639.page

There is quite a lot of Dotee Doll fever going on out there in the world, so a basic Google search will give you plenty of inspiration.

Ok barbsbus & Quilt4you. I am working on mine for you two and redesigning her. Didn't like the first one I made. Anyway, should be in the mail by next weekend. How come this makes me feel like a little school girl meeting new friends on the first day of kindergarten? Guess it doesn't take much to get a quilter excited!

sapdoggie 08-02-2009 03:25 PM

Yomousey and Ruth Camp.I am having a lapse of creativity today. Will work again tomorrow to get your surprises done. My ideas don't want to cooperate with the finished product. Hang on - they will come.

sapdoggie- thinking some more

Yomousey 08-02-2009 06:29 PM

No problem, I haven't even started mine. I have the idea but I've been busy with other swaps:) I'm trying to do them in order, I have 1 that has to go out by Friday then I can do the 2 for this swap. I'm on Swap-bot and have been doing paper crafts and dolls swaps. I'm having a great time, but no time to do stuff, LOL!

Quilt4u 08-03-2009 01:30 AM

Mine will be done and on their way to their new homes Friday. Promies.

PamH 08-03-2009 02:39 AM

I've got one of my little darlings done and the 2nd one is in the thinking stage

Knot Sew 08-03-2009 06:53 AM

Mine are all done up and on there way...wed or thurs they should arrive

barbsbus 08-03-2009 07:02 AM

I got my little one's bodies made and still thinking about what they are going to wear, hair doos, etc. They are so much fun to make. Looking forward to getting some more dolls for my collection.

Knot Sew 08-03-2009 09:57 AM

Mine are the dotees..,,,,they seem to make people laugh...i hope they are well recieved :D

barbsbus 08-03-2009 04:56 PM

dotees are just as much fun as the regular dolls. They are all precious.

PamH 08-03-2009 04:57 PM

Mine are one of each!!

wvdek 08-03-2009 08:45 PM

Call me indecisive, but I really did not like the doll I completed even tho DH said it looked like me as a kid. So....am working on two new ones. Sorry

Will try and have them in the mail by Thursday or Friday.
Still somewhat sick and get pooped out easily. Sleeping alot.

Sorry ladies.

Quilt4u 08-04-2009 01:31 AM

Just take care of yourself. I'm sure your first dolls look just fine. Hope you feel better real soon.

wvdek 08-04-2009 08:42 AM

Thanks Quilt4u. I felt well enough this morn to go pick blueberries. Nice and quiet time to reflect and pray. Then I started coughing, pooped out, and went home.. Resting again.
Will work on dolls later. Thanks for your concern.

Fresh berries- YUMMY.
Now you have a good treat to eat after resting.

Have fun with the dolls, but rest first. I'm off to work and then home to put my ideas together.

Have a good today.

Getting closer- just have to decide what fabric to use. I have the accessories picked out.

Curious

wvdek 08-04-2009 08:07 PM

Thanks sapdoggie. I did rest and completed my dolls. I'm afraid they are a bit older and traditional. No far out stuff. Been a long time since I did anything like them, but I did have fun.
If I'm up to it, DH & DD are off to the 'big' city tomorrow and I may join them. DD wants to go to Hobby Lobby and Jo-Ann's. I may have to see if there is any fabric I need
Will mail the girls out in the morning. Tootles.

Of course there is fabric you "need". I work at Hobby Lobby in the fabric department, and get to open the boxes first :!: :!: :!:

PS old and traditional are good- we must carry on to teach the "young'ins" how history was made.

Knot Sew 08-05-2009 05:13 AM

Yomousey and wvdek check your mail box they should be close today.....or tomorrow

I hope you can post a picture when they get there cause I forgot again :D
