How much are we allowed to change a block and have it still be acceptable in the swap?

This is the shooting star block as found on quilters cache:

Is that acceptable? I don't think the block is good for a stand alone block as it appears on quilters cache. It would be fine in a quilt full of those blocks but ....................

Susie, there are no quilt police on this board. I'd love to get one of your "original" star blocks! You can choose a block for this swap from anywhere...including an original!

Sometimes you just look at a block or quilt and think "I like it but if I were going to make it I'd change this and this and this!" :D

Most of the time my ideas are too difficult for me to carry out.
I have very poor fine motor skills. All thumbs that's me!
I do the best I can but sometimes that's not much good. This just kind of fell into place.
