I just explored the block swap section for the first time, and was kind of looking for pictures of some completed quilts made from the blocks received from other members. I haven't ever worked with blocks made by anyone else, and was curious about how these quilts might end up looking.

Anyway, if there are some examples out there, I thought I might add a section to my "quilt gallery" just for these block swap quilts. Are you all interested? If so, you could reply to this post with links to any existing pictures on the QB.

In case you haven't seen the Gallery before, here's a link:

These quilts were not done in a board member swap but between a group of 7 of my NYC quilting buddies.

It was inspired by the book "Setting Solutions" by Sharyn Craig. The rules for the swap (which I made up) are too convoluted to go into ;-) , but we spent 5 months swapping blocks, and then each had 3 months to put together a quilt top (for one other member).

The goal was to come up with a non-traditional quilt setting (or something other than a straight grid w/ boring plain sashings). It was a great learning experience, and really made you think outside the "plain" box.

And to be able to deal with the problems that come up all the time in swaps - 12" inches isn't the same for everyone, color combo's you'd NEVER choose to put in a block, construction techniques aren't all at the same level, etc. and then trying to make it all work together.

I think they're FABULOUS! (I made the Lone Star for L., and the blue Seminole-y one underneath, made by C., is MINE!!!!)

7 pics to load.

Here is a quilt and pillow cover I completed with blocks from the first Boomerang Swap: (It's the 3rd or 4th posting)

Here is a quilt my mom made from blocks she received in the first Boomerang swap: (it is black and really bright colors, toward the bottom of the page)

Here is one from member sewwhat85:

And from leakus:

These were all from Boomerang swaps. I am sure there are more posted, but these were the ones I had marked. :)

I would love to see more quilts completed from swaps.

Thanks! That's a good start. I suspect there are a lot more, but I cannot spend the time to page thru all the block swap topics to find them. So, if you know of other examples, please post a link to the page here.

I have started the new page on the gallery. Check it out!
