Morning All . . . .
Trying to get ahead of the game this time around. I read some of you have already cut & bagged some of your fabric. I was thinking of bagging at least 12 to get started. . . . Opinions anybody? GP:) |
I have 16 F8s cut and wrapped. After seeing Jaba's blue and white quilt, I've dug out some blue from "The Stash". I may just have to do another group. I've already got it washed and dried, ready to cut. I'm trying to decide if I can swing it with a great-granddaughter due in July. I know that's going to cut into my time some. I've already made her some burp pads, changing pads and some pacifier clips. Her quilt top is already made, ready to quilt and bind. She won't need receiving blankets in July so they can wait a bit.
Okay, who's gonna' give me that needed kickstart from the rear? |

GP:) Hi Groovy! You're in with us...that's great! I have 30 different Christmas fabrics chosen from my stash! Most of them are Fat Quarters I have bought here and there. I have thrown them together in wash with "color grabber sheets". I will press and cut into F8s. Since we do not know how the groups will be organized yet, I will wait to bag each F8 with info when I know. For me it is easier to handle each bag once. Looking forward to swapping with you! Buzzy Bee :) |
I have about twenty cut but plan to be in a fast and slow.
|
Oh, what the heck, I just cannot resist! I'm in for a fast and a slow group. Talk about weak-willed....that's me. We just have too much fun in here to take a chance on missing out!

We use FAT eighths only, 11 x 18 inch pieces in this swap. I’ll act as the ‘distribution center’ of sorts. Everything will run through me, F8s and completed blocks. Deadlines, once established, are firm so I will be expecting everyone to man-up (woman-up) and keep that deadline. Anyone not finishing on time will hold up the entire group and I wouldn't want to be that person. If someone doesn’t return the blocks they are supposed to make from the F8s they receive, I will not return their completed blocks until they finish. Anyone not completing the swap will receive negative feedback. Anyone with any questions can email me or and i will answer as soon as i possibly can. |

well I started looking at the fabrics that I've had for a long time thinking that maybe I can finally get something done with some of them that I didn't know what to do with them. So here is the fabric for a large group and yes I have enough for 30 pieces if we need that many.

Jaba your blue and white quilt is amazing, so beautiful! I signed up for the large group and now am considering the small group also. What to do, what to do? I would have to finish up the two swaps that I am in but it looks like we won't get started till the middle of June so that would give me at least a month to finish up. hmmmmmm
Phyllis |
So you really are telling me you have time, hmmmm! I don't care if it's a large or a small but I really like the fast group. I'd even do 2 fast ones if I could. Really like sending them all in at once too, didn't think I would but so glad I decided to give it a try. Amazing how much smoother it went and you got everyone's back. Now to just decide what to send.
|
Bring it on! I've got the yellow to match this. Leftovers from Boom 12.

I am loving all the fabrics being posted every time I see a new one I start mentally going through my stash figuring out what I have that will go with and hoping I'll get to play with it. They're all so different and I am already having more fun than I thought I would.
Wating for June 1st is almost like waiting for Christmas eve. I'm kind of hoping that we'll be in one giant group with a compromise deadline of maybe 3 month in stead of 2 or 4 because I want to play with all of the fabrics, yes I am a toddler I hate to be left out of anything. Hahahaha |
Billi, I love the fast turn arounds instead of the 4 month ones but Id be willing to do the 3 month turn around if it meant a bigger group too. Im like you, I love seeing ALL the F8s people send! Wish I could have seen all the finished products over the years people have made but if they are like me they might still have tons of blocks waiting to be made into quilts! :)

Afternoon All. . . . Hhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyy. . . . . really LIKIN' that 3 month ONE BIG group idea. . . .

The last Boom that I participated in, we sent to the individual that we made the block for. This will be new to me, to send the blocks all together in one package. Everybody that mentioned it seemed to really like it so I am sure that I will like it also.
How many are signed up now? I just sent an email to join up in the small group. Yipee........... Phyllis |
You all slay me! Roflol! "Suggestions" about group length and group size! omgosh. Well, let's see how the groups continue to shake out and i'll adjust our groups as necessary so that as many people as possible are happy. We are up to 23 for sure. We had one drop but picked up Bluelady. There's still one 'iffy', that's me. (We'll see how these next few weeks go for my sis.) And don't forget, many of those 23 are in for multiple groups so the numbers are actually getting up to a nice size. We can still use a lot more, of course, but you all know I'll work with however many members we have.
Have a lovely afternoon Swappers. oh, and as we will probably have multiple groups, i need group names, ladies! Any suggestions there? of course, there's always the old reliable, "lucky 13", but somebody's got to be more creative than I am. |
KatsKid should be in a Group called Friday. She was born on a Friday the 13th. I know. I was there.
|
As for the slow and fast groups. My daughter pointed out to me that I should join both because I can work on the fast group the first two months and slow group the second two months. That way I'll have to fast groups. Anyone follow that logic?

That's exactly what I'm going to do. We'll have until Dec. for that slow group so I know I can do that with no problem. I just got through cutting my 2nd set of F8s. I'll get them pressed and wrapped some time this week. Then I'll be ready to mail. Getting excited here! |
Perfect sense! Gees, maybe I have another PM to send.....

Swap
That is what I did last time also

OK, here is my Boom 12 blocks. I liked the way it turned out so much I intend to send yellow to people in Boom 13 that didn't join Boom 12 so I can get a bed quilt out of this.

And, here is what I'm thinking of sending to the rest of you. I'm thinking of a tone on tone any color in the fabric but powder blue. I bought a ton of that at the last WalMart sale I can use for a back, binding, etc.
|
Janice, Have you received my email asking to be in both groups?
|
Got it! Thanks.

Lucky 13 Boomerang Swap Christmas in July!

Ok......don't let this cause you to wonder if I am confused :),not.......just a little buzzy maybe :) I will say however, that working in all this Christmas stash has me thinking of hot chocolate.
Janice, will this idea work within the rules of the Swap? If not, no problem. I will back-up and take another run at this. So this is my idea: Each participant in the group or groups I am in would receive one of these Fat 8ths and a Fat 8th of the back ground fabric....off white. I have 38 different ones I all. With the flat rate envelope - holding up to 70lbs with no extra charge - there should be no problem with extra postage. I do not want any left over fabric returned. Do you see a problem with impacting anyone on postage or mailing logistics? Christmas in July! What fun! Look forward to seeing how things line up! Buzzy Bee Beatty |

Ok I also though that doing both groups will be doable so I had Janice write me in on both as well.
Here is the fabric I have for the slow group. |
Oh wow more awesome fabrics. So many pretty things to play with.

I sent Janice an email...if there will be a "2nd" fast group after the lst fast group ends then Ill wait on that one but if there wont be then I guess Ill do both fast and slow...decisions decisions.. Heres the fabric Im thinking of using asking only white tone on tone or maybe a little bit of the blue in the fabric?
I got caught today and I guess it was funny...I made a "Steelers" quilt for our maintanence man at the Nursing home...Was going to surprise him with it this summer. The woman that takes it to the quilters and brings it back said it might be a month because Audrey was going for a month to visit her son, which was perfect for my timing. Soooo today the Maint. man is in my office talking to the med passer when the lady comes in with the quilt in a bag....that man has to have hawk eyes because he saw through the yellow bag and I thought he was going to cry when I took it out of the bag and gave it to him...talk about a WONDERFUL feeling....He didn't like me taking it back to bind it though! :)... That makes my day...to see the joy something so small gave someone....life is good!! |
Bee, I did this same thing during our last super fast group. It is an excellent way to make sure that EVERYTHING will match. I am planning to do it again for at least part of a group (maybe the whole thing).

totally agree Bee, that is what keeps most of us going! What a great gift you gave to him Joan, he'll never forget it.

I've been listening...
Good morning all. I see there have been Busy little Bees working around here!
Oh, what the heck, sure, why not use 2 F8s as a trial. LOL. As Themamahauser said, this is what she did on her own in the last round. If anyone wishes to add a second fabric, go ahead, BUT, AND THIS IS A MASSIVE BUT, you must streamline your shipping so that the added bulk will not impair my ability to put everything inside a Priority flat rate USPS padded envelope. If everyone decides to send 2 fabrics, it’s the equivalent of fabric for twice as many members and shipping can become a problem. That means no individual gigantic ziplock bags and large unbendable notes that can really foul up the works. Fold and press your 2 fabrics and put them in a single small ziplock bag, the ‘zipperless’ kind, quart or sandwich size max, one for each person in your group. Make sure they are as flat as possible then put those bags inside a single large gallon size ziplock bag with your names on them. You may use any tracked method you wish to mail to me but remember, I ship in Priority flat rate USPS padded envelopes. The reason is to save my sanity because the cost is known up front. Those of you who send me prestamped tyvek envelopes for use in return shipping might find the postage you attach will come up short – tyveks are NOT flat rate and can vary greatly with the addition of just a few extra F8s. The cardboard letter and legal sized USPS priority envelopes may not handle the extra bulk so please don’t use them either. PLEASE send me only the USPS padded envelopes OR $6 in cash or stamps. Also, please don't send me a dozen first-class stamps; make a special trip to the post office to get large denomination stamps, again, to streamline. When I go to the post office with a package stamped with 15 stamps of varying non-marked denominations, it creates quite a problem for the counter person to determine whether or not the postage requirement is met. It greatly slows the process, not to mention that the crowd behind me gets restless, especially if there are multiple packages like that. So, all that being said, if you wish to use up to 2 fabrics, it’s fine with me. And, of course, you may stick with the original single fabric as traditionally done. Honestly, I think of this as more your swap than mine so having run a couple of booms now, I’m comfortable loosening up the single fabric rule a bit for a trial run. Besides, if it becomes unbearable on my end, I’ll let you all know! One more thing: I’ve run the numbers and sign-ups are falling short of being able to put together even one large group but we can have multiple small groups, with at least one each of the 2 and 4 month time period. The suggestion has been made to do as I did before, have one 2 month group followed by another quick group while the 4 month group remains undisturbed. It’s a possibility. Let’s continue to see how the groups shake out the next week. janice mcc
