My tan did not work on this block. It is too busy and just blends into the block:

This one with cream fabric came out better:

Finally, here is the start of the medallion quilt that is now on hold until I get my boom blocks done:

Great blocks and I love the medallion quilt.

I finished the last little bit of Julia's "Florida beachy" block today, let's see if it is obvious what I was attempting (hopefully it is)

Hope you like it Julia.

Great block, perfect looking sand dollar.

That of course required a bit of frog stitching before I could finish the block I was making. My second block went well until the end when I looked at colors that should have match and it looked so not right that I was grateful to have enough fabric to make an entirely new block that came out just right. So I decided right then and there is this happens again who ever's block I am making will get both blocks!

Right now I am thinking how blessed I am to have a couple months to get these blocks done. I was able to get another block done this morning and maybe later in the day (depending on how much cooking I get done). Here is what I finished before 8:30 am this Saturday. Sorry about the shadow on the picture. It really is much brighter and the cream is very light.

My block is beautiful, I love it. Thank you.

There's nothing wrong with using the same block again in another person's fabric. A few times we have had swappers who made everyone the same block, but they all looked different due the different fabrics.

Sewbizgirl -- It looks like several presents waiting to be opened! I haven't tried that technique before, super cool!

Thank you both for such amazing blocks!

PamelaOry 08-17-2019 06:57 AM

It’s not uncommon for people to make several of one block for boomers if they feel it’s the block for their fabric.

I'm taking a break at the computer... Here's the one block I have made this morning, "Boxes" for QueenBarbiej:

SuziSew 08-17-2019 09:48 AM

I have a dumb question, but wanted to check. When we send our fabric it is requested that we use fragrance free soap...I'm good with that, even rewashed the fabric I've pulled for the blocks. So the question is, what about using starch/or alternative? I've gotten in the habit of starching fabric for blocks because they cut and sew so much better. So is it okay? I use unscented Best Press...do you make your blocks with or without? Look forward to the responses.

PamelaOry 08-17-2019 10:37 AM

I aLao use starch before cutting and sewing as a matter of habit. My blocks come out so much better as a result. I think I even starched the 1/8ths that I sent out. Hope no one minds.

Libster 08-17-2019 11:02 AM

Some ladies use starch, some don't. Your preference, so far. We're a pretty easy group to get along with. Janice does stress nothing with a strong scent because it can trigger breathing problems for some people. I've received blocks done both ways. They've worked fine for me. I think the most important thing to remember is to pre-wash your fabrics because some can not take the chemicals in the unwashed fabrics. It affects the breathing and allergies.

This afternoon I made a block for Klaws.

sewbizgirl 08-17-2019 01:27 PM

Beautiful block for Klaws, Cheesehead. So much color! I've been pondering what to do with her fabric.

I don't starch anything. I just sew fast and don't take the time, not that I'm morally opposed to it or anything. :D I think whatever your normal way of handling fabrics when you sew will be fine with anyone.

I'm one of the people who can't handle perfumy scents on fabric. I don't have breathing probs or allergies, but those artificial scents will trigger a migraine in a heartbeat! It's kind of why I have given up hosting swaps. Some fabrics always come with those heavy scents. One lady even treated her blocks with Febreeze before sending them to me... OMG, those made me so sick!

I know what you mean, Sewbiz. I have a daughter who can smell things nobody else in the world can smell and it triggers migraines in her too. Even the smell of hairspray sets her off. It's just something she has to live with.

Cute block, B'stone!

I got 3 more done today.

Also for Hav! This one's called Atlas Star. I just love this batik with white. It makes me think I need to have a whole quilt of little batik stars with white!

This one is for Vikkim. It's an Angle Play design, improvised. Just love this beautiful floral....

Last is a Woven Star for Kass. Hope this is a good canvas to applique frogs onto, Kass. I had to take it outside to get the colors to photograph true, so hence the daylight shining through it. It's actually not thin... those are Kona cottons.

Smglover207 08-17-2019 07:06 PM

Julia’s, sorry you didn’t get instructions, that’s why I had one left.

H4B, I’m sorry you are going to make another block, I liked the first, but can’t wait to see what you think will be an improvement.

I finally got to the PO today. We had to move very suddenly just before I mailed my fabric, so I had to pack my stash and since I was not able to supervise placement in the storage unit, I lost track of those boxes. Today my mom and son helped me retrieve them, my mom crawled over boxes and furniture from one end of the 20 foot storage unit to the other. We managed to liberate 2 of my boxes, and one of my son’s clothes. He says “That’s what we came for, fabric?” YES

We looked over all of them tonight, and had a great idea for the circus fabric. I can’t wait until tomorrow when everyone else goes to the beach!

juliasb 08-18-2019 09:30 AM

I learned a long time ago that if a block starts to go bonkers in my brain it is time to set it aside. The block I am working on now is doing just that. The creative side of me says "cut! cut! while the book worm part of me says, "steady, steady". When they are both winning in my heard I say Stop! So I am stopping for right now. I get carried away with hst's! Who in their right mind does that. Me!
Now I have finished one more block and working on another. I will wait to post pics until both are finished. No peeking on which one is causing me to take a break hehehe.
I also discovered that my new FW makes a perfect 1/4" seam and is now being used on all the blocks for this swap. It is so quiet and sews so smoothly. I must however get use to the slower speed of the machine. Good thing is that it is making my stitching more accurate because I am going slower. All of you will benefit from this. Have you ever noticed that each of us has a different, though close, 1/4" seam allowance.. Now to the kitchen. I have to start making pickle relish.

Good evening, Night Owls! Happy to report I'm feeling much more like myself today. Thank goodness. Still worried but trying to keep a positive outlook. On to your blocks...

My goodness! I think I counted 22 blocks posted here since I last checked. Wow! I planned to comment on most or all of the blocks the group made but there are so many that stand out for me. I'll just say "great job" to all of you and thank you for your creativity and efforts.

Smglover and Terriamn, I'm glad you finally got your blocks. And SMG, it's tough enough to move in general but with little notice, well, it must have been difficult.
Suzisew, the main thing re: aromas if you use products is to keep them light. I also use starch but I do let the blocks breathe before I pack them up. I think that helps.
Juliasb, don't worry about repeating a block pattern. If you think it suits a couple of F8s, then go for it. We do try to avoid duplicating blocks for one person but even that happens. They won't be exact duplicates anyway since fabrics will vary. No worries!
IrishMom, I hope your daughter gets moved in soon. There are months to work on the blocks!

And thank you to those of you who've been assisting our newbies. I'm glad to see several of you stepping up and answering questions while I've been unavailable. I hope to keep better on top of this now. Fingers crossed!

I'm off to add the blocks to the gallery. Have a lovely evening, NO's.

Kassaundra 08-18-2019 03:42 PM

I'm working on Jaba's striped fabric, was carefully measuring the 60' triangles, making sure where they repeated for the best use of the fabric and the design on print and cutting them out when I got to the next to last strip I realized it only had 5 repeats of one of the designs. I knew how many hexies I was going to end up with and even though I didn't have an exact idea of what I was going to do w/ the hexies I still was going to figure out a plan. So as I was sitting there looking at my last uncut strip and my one stack of 5 60' triangles and my other stacks of 6 60' triangles contemplating where I was going from here, I was struck by a lightening bolt idea, even better then I originally thought and using 5 60' triangles for all of them. Now let's see if I can make the visions of my head onto fabric. lol lol lol

Kassaundra 08-18-2019 03:44 PM

Smglover, sweet block for B'stone. I got to use that cute fabric several booms ago when she sent it before. Clowns aren't so creepy when they are animals!

I got two done this evening, and that leaves only 3 before I'm totally finished. I'm leaving for Memphis tomorrow to help with some babysitting this week, so my last blocks will have to wait til I get back from grandbaby time!! Woo hoo... bringing the outfits I showed earlier, plus I got each tiny girl a beach towel made. It's a cute mermaid panel sewn to a thick terry cloth, then quilted. During the non-summer months they can use them as bath wraps.

So here is a block for Annt59, called "Cactus Pot":
