hi everyone! I've got my envelopes written out, fabric ready and in baggies, just need a few more stamps. I'll be sharing who I send to as soon as I send! This is really fun!

I don't use starch on mine, but if anyone starches I'm OK with it.

PokerDiva 05-04-2011 02:21 PM

Going out in the mail tomorrow (Thursday) are:

kreinhart742
LauraEllen
Lillie
Materialgirl
MFQS
montanablu
moonrise
MsGrace
NanaKath55

If I get anymore ready in the morning, I will post again.

selfhunter 05-04-2011 02:27 PM

Sorry I did not read your post until this evening and my husband mailed everything this morning. I am afraid I used fabric softner on my fabric square so beware when you open the zip lock bag.

selfhunter 05-04-2011 02:34 PM

mine were .84 cents each

Mine were $.64 each. Canada was $1.08.

At our post office, if you talk to a different cashier, you'll get a different price. Can be quite frustrating sometimes! :?

I meant to add that it might be a little while before I can start making blocks as I have a graduation quilt to finish by May 20 and a baby quilt to start and finish by June 19. So don't expect anything from me before June 19th. I'll get them done ASAP. I can't wait to start working with ALL the fabulous fabrics I get in the mail! My mail lady is going to wonder what all the squishies are about. This is my first swap. I can't wait.

My mail lady knows all about the swap. If I'm in the post office when someone else comes in, she tells them all about how I mail off little pieces of fabric and get quilt blocks back. When I went in yesterday to buy stamps she was so excited because I was starting up again. (She really needs to get a life)lol But thanks to her almost the whole town knows about it... but if you consider there are only about 1200 people here that's not a lot.

paintmejudy 05-04-2011 04:28 PM

There is one thing else to try -- go to the self service station inside the post office, answer the little questions the computer asks, and then ask it to calculate postage. You don't have to buy it then, but it will tell you how much it should be. Then, if it is under 1 ounce, make sure it is folded so doesn't have any 1/4" thick lumps when the seams have piled up.

ksea 05-04-2011 04:46 PM

Beautiful fabrics going out in this swap, I'm not playing this time, but am keeping watch for all the great blocks

kreinhart742 05-04-2011 06:36 PM

Wow I feel like I am such a slacker compared to you ladies. I will get my cut this weekend.

Can someone tell me if we can use Batiks or is that not a good idea.

It is totally your choice of fabric! fryguymoore or buddysmom used batiks last swap. So go ahead and use what your heart desires:)

AngieS 05-05-2011 03:40 AM

I haven't worked with batiks a whole lot but welcome the challenge. Send whatever you like to me and I'll see what I can do. ;)

AngieS 05-05-2011 07:28 AM

Janetlmt 05-05-2011 08:52 AM

All of my 1/8ths went out this morning. They cost 44 cents to mail each.

paintmejudy 05-05-2011 09:01 AM

I do the Block of the Month swap and for 6 months did batiks as my theme -- got 60 fabulous blocks and made a gorgeous scrappy-look batik quilt.

I know. I was very surprised when I opened the mail box this morning!

heyjami 05-05-2011 10:28 AM

Angie - I hear that all of the time. They are not trained on how to use the most economical way to ship. :-) I would press them flat, cover them in saran or a ziploc and weigh it. If it's 1 oz or under, put 1 stamp and you're good to go!

My MIL and I did a scarf project for Special Olympics. It cost me $1.55 to mail mine first class and she paid $13 by going to the post office and asking them what to do with it. They didn't tell her about flat rate boxes, first class, nothing! I still can't figure out how she got to $13 for a scarf! Ridiculous.

Anyway, just got home from my business trip and I'll probably get my F8's out by Saturday! I'm so excited!

If anyone in this group needs me to generate a pdf of the addresses in a label format (I have 3 across, 10 down already in front of me, Avery 5160), PM me with your email address and I'll send you a copy you can print out on your label paper.

Thanks so much Jami. I have them in a word format and I always forget to attach them to the email as a word or PDF doc. I will remember next time ;-)

I'm interviewing my fabrics... I think I'm going with browns/teals. I have a lot of pretty ones in this collection. What do you think?
There is one I'm considering dropping but I want to make sure I keep some that aren't exact fits...

oh I love my stash!

No worries! I appreciated all of the stuff you offered! I'm a computer geek by day and it was no big deal to merge those and pdf them for anyone who doesn't have office.

Very pretty! I like them all. :D

paintmejudy 05-05-2011 12:56 PM

Lovely group. If it were my choice, I think I would drop the very light one sort of in the middle, and the plaid, but that is my humble opinion.

AngieS 05-05-2011 12:58 PM

Jami those are pretty. :)

I went to the post office today and bought my stamps. I will make sure they are flat and send them babies off hopefully sometime early next week. Have a lot to do the next few days. We'll see. :) Can't wait to get the fabric out though because that means maybe the quicker I get it back. ;)

heyjami 05-05-2011 01:10 PM

Good input Judy, I was thinking the same thing about the plaid.

The light ones look much better in person.

I am just using one fabric, I just love it though. It has gold in it that just makes me love it! You can't really see it in the photo but it's beautiful to me. :) The quilt shop lady that I always deal with said its an oriental fabric. I've never dealt with any of those before but just fell in love with it.

ohhh pretty!
Hmmm... I wondered what the strategy was for this. I should look at some of the old posts from previous boomerang swaps!

AngieS 05-05-2011 01:35 PM

I was just thinking the blocks would look more like they belonged together if I used the one fabric. I'm sometimes kind of a matchy matchy person. :) It's hard for me to do scrappy even though I am trying to.

heyjami 05-05-2011 01:44 PM

Well, I think I've changed my mind about my strategy after looking at the previous swap pics... I'm going to pick less fabrics and try for some uniformity and see what comes back.

Let me see how much of these I have...

I still like the brown/teal approach... just less of them.

selfhunter 05-05-2011 01:58 PM

I received my fabric from PaintMeJudy today. That was fast and the fabric is lovely

PokerDiva 05-05-2011 02:04 PM

All the rest of my f8's for this group are going out tomorrow. (Fri) I can't wait to see what I get back. Whoo Hoo!!!!

craft phanatic 05-05-2011 02:14 PM

Terribly hectic week for me and I forgot all about checking in on the individual threads. Sorry to be a Johnny Come Lately! Packing my fabric now (on break at work!) And will probably mail it out next week. Tomorrow is the best day becase I get to go pick up my daughter from her freshman year of college and bring her home!!! Yay for me, I missed her terribly. So I won't get to the post office. I am so excited to tell her about this swap. She has no intrest (yet) in learning to sew but seloves what I make her and she likes hearing about the swaps. I'll post when I send mine out and when I receive any. Robin

paintmejudy 05-05-2011 02:23 PM

I too used just one fabric in both North and South. Wanted a unified look to the quilt. But will still have the scrpapy look I love, with all the varied patterns and fabrics added.

paintmejudy 05-05-2011 02:25 PM

I like that idea better, Jami. In fact, my colors for the second group are blues and teals and chocolate.

The pictures for the other swaps are just breathtaking! There are some amazing blocks that come together!

Can't wait to see how this works out!

Roseysue 05-05-2011 03:23 PM

I received my First F8 from PaintMeJudy in the mail today.

How exciting to be able to do my first grown up block!

It's all done and waiting for a ride to the PO.

I really enjoyed doing it. Hope it is what you have in mind.
