Difergie, I have tried to send you a message, not sure if it a problem with the boards, my computer or me! I had a few issues with your block, I did a paper piecing and did not check it first! UGH... I made you another block but I had very little of your fabric as I used a lot in the paper piecing... So short version of a LONG story I am sending you two blocks.

I can tell you this I learned a lesson! Don't use someone else's fabric on a pattern that you have not checked out first! If you don't like either block just send me another F8 they say the third time is a charm.

And BTW... If you decided to teach Hubby how to quilt and he is a chatter box (I love him Dearly but...) you might want to wait till he is out of the house before you try a new pattern that tales a little concentration.

Same for me , No need to return scraps.

Difergie 03-18-2012 03:46 AM

I have had the same happen to me! Usually with regular piecing. With paper piecing it usually comes out exact unless the computer prints the size out wrong. Hey, I get two blocks..that is awesome....thanks

Marybeth
That is the wonderful thing about the boom swaps. It encourages us to try things and we learn as we go. Sometimes we learn what not to do and sometimes we learn something fabulous. Either way it is a wonderful experience and you have to give yourself kudos for even trying :)
Hugs
April

I received 2 squshies in the mail.

April, you are so right! I love learning new blocks. I sew for my customers but not traditional quilting. I make keepsake quilts out of their items, so I really miss the adventure of making new blocks. I have learned so much here that I am now starting to throw in a few traditional blocks. My customers love it! nothing like getting a tee shirt quilt back with a few special filler blocks thrown in.

I am amazed as I look out my window today at the Foot of snow!!!! The first day of spring is in a few days, we have had super mild winter and now spring is going to be snowy!

I guess we are going for a walk in it! UGH.... Hubby wants to go play, and get some pictures. Oh well it keeps me young~

linnaete 03-18-2012 12:47 PM

Got an F8 from Difergie this week! I will be mailing all of mine out tomorrow. This is my first swap EVER, so please let me know if I do something wrong (cutting, postage, etc.) :)

Snow? Send a little our way!! The area is so dry from lack of snow this winter. I wonder what our summer will be.

Waiting on those squishies! Then I will get started, too.

Some I can see grown-up; I am afraid some will make me think. That is what makes swapping great. It pulls me out of my box. Phannie.

marytoddliz 03-19-2012 11:36 AM

I love that blue fabric, Sharon. I can't wait to get it, There is an idea in my head that I am going to try! I am sending home grown up blocks today to Difergie, Dotcomdtcm and scrapper. When I get back from my walk through the snow to the PO Box I will report back which Squishies I received.

Although the entire weekend was snowing today it is sunny and bright, but cold... So I am looking forward to taking my MIL's dog to the PO with me. He is a 13 year old mix, but looks like a golden lab, with one blue eye and one brown. He acts like a puppy in the snow!

Happy sewing ladies~

Quilt Mom 03-19-2012 01:08 PM

All my f8s were mailed. I was so surprised. The postal worker treated them as if they were packages :(, and upped the postage. I received f8s packaged the same that came through with only 45 cents postage and no problems. Ah well!!

I got several squishies today:
marytoddliz
sapdoggie
ljdugas31
scrapper
maggiebb
Difregie
dotcomdtcm

Yep, that's it! Now to find patterns. The hunt begins!
Sharon, I like the fabric you have pictured. That will be fun to put into a block.

Scrapper 03-19-2012 02:19 PM

Hello Everyone:
I'm a newbie...to quilting..to the QB and to this swap....I'm so excited to be included. I've received some F8's and have the blocks completed.....waiting for more.....YEEHAW
Of course my quilt will be a scrapper quilt....the sky's the limit......

marytoddliz 03-19-2012 02:31 PM

I made it Back from the post office, I love the slushy part of snow, well the 5 year old in me does!

I received F8's from Sapdoggie and Phannie, I love the material!

QuiltMom, I know what you mean I have to send my Squishes out with 65 cents but get them in with 45 cents, and last time everyone that came through with a 45 cent stamp was held for extra postage. This time they are letting them through. Who knows why, I guess it is just all the different opinions that work together as our postal service.

We are just saying a special prayer that we don't lose our Post Office, they are making a lot of cuts and would hate to have to drive to a different town to get my mail. We have no street delivery here, due to our weather I am guessing. but it is a good healthy walk so I don't mind it now.

OK time to sew~

maebe42 03-19-2012 04:57 PM

My squishies went out today.

I received from:
oma7
difergie
dotcomdtcm
maggiebb

I've picked out patterns for two of the blocks and am trying to decide what to make with the other 2. The fun begins!

sapdoggie 03-19-2012 05:08 PM

I received squishies from dotcomdtcom, oma7 and scrapper today :)

Now off to create

Please let me know if any postage is due. I sent them in a long envelope with one stamp. The postoffice lady only said to put extra postage on the one to Canada.

If there is any extra due, I will return it with your square.

More thinking, thinking....... I may need Pooh's Hunny Pot and thinking chair :D

marytoddliz 03-19-2012 05:13 PM

I think the trick is the long envelope. I received several with a 45 cent stamp and they all made it with no postage due. I put mine in a small envelope and put 65 cents. Next boom I am investing in long envelopes, just think how much I will save!

OK I have a few more pictures to post then dinner and a movie! Will sew more late tonight, when all the early birds are in bed and all the night owls are sewing away!

ljdugas31 03-19-2012 06:36 PM

I got nice mail today!!! crgltr got your fabric and Dotty both yours and marytoddlliz.Nice fabric.

sharon b 03-19-2012 07:38 PM

I think with the longer envelopes you can make the fabric thinner , don't have to squsih it up to get it in , does that make sense ? I also went and got the press and seal wrap to wrap the fabric in instead of baggies with zippers - the zippers add bulk

wendsy 03-19-2012 07:39 PM

Just to let everyone know when sending squishes (especially to me) if it gets caught in a machine along the way, more postage is needed. I find that if you fold the material the fit the envelope you have a better chance of it arriving fine. The machines around me must love to eat the envelopes-I have had to pay postage due on a few envelopes that have "tread" marks on them-the envelopes were taller than the 1/4" permitted by the 45 or 65 stamp. The clerk at my post office told me that the 45 stamp was for paper correspondence, nothing else-and they are pretty strict. I found a larger envelope, business sizes (for the F8ths) or 4 X 6 (for the finished blocks-those seams can get thick!)work well and I've been able to send them off for regular postage. Flatter is better :)

Quilt Mom 03-20-2012 05:43 AM

wendsy, I guess I will have to fold my fabric differently. I sent things off in legal size envelopes. The Canadian one got charged less than the US ones. I paid $1.95 per envelope because the clerk considered it a first class package. Maybe I will press the fabric flat. Last boom I sent the fabric with a full page letter, and had no problem with just $.45 postage. Go figure:rolleyes:

wendsy 03-20-2012 08:42 AM

It's all in the interpertation of the regulations. I just sent off all the mails for 45 each (except Canada), but if it were a different clerk I'd have had to pay for parcel post since they know it's more than paper inside (they know me too well:)-also my 5th boom) Received 2 in today's mail, no problems :) When sending the finished blocks I use the manilla business sized envelopes and try to stager the seams to get a good postage price.

Received today:
Sapdoggie
Phannie1

MaggieBB 03-20-2012 08:55 AM

I used legal sized white evenlopes the postal clerk check them for me and said to use first class postage on all but the one going to canada, does anyone know how long it takes for first class to get to canada? a question for oma7 ,I have chosen a pattern for you and cut some of the peices just wondering about back ground , Do you have a preferance?

Quilt Mom 03-20-2012 09:21 AM

Well, I have officially fried my brain for the day. LOL!! I spent quite a while looking for patterns for all these fun F8s you have been sending my way. I have a few ideas now, and maybe tomorrow I will sew instead of getting on the computer at all. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

oma7 03-20-2012 10:00 AM

I have received 7 F8s so far. Maybe this weekend i'll do some sewing on them. I went to a ReNae Merrill class over the weekend and her spiral has consumed me so far this week. I'm having trouble putting it down. Two more sections to sew and I'll have two pieces of 8 done! I'll get back to the blocks soon. looking foward to looking at the fabric and deciding what to do.

Phannie1 03-20-2012 10:21 AM

Sick again today. I did get to the mail box and found two swishies. Linnaete and sapdoggie. Love the fabrics. Maybe I will feel like sewing later. Right now, let's lay down again.

marytoddliz 03-20-2012 12:01 PM

Phannie, so sorry you are sick! I hope this makes you feel better your block is headed home with a brother and some extra fabric, for the troops! I love what you are doing and if you need more just let me know. Being a Vet that hangs out at the VA hospital I know how some of them feel. But the quilts always put a smile on their face.

I will post any new squishes I get in the mail when I return... Did I tell you there is a fabric store right next door to the Post Office! I might be a while :-)

maebe42 03-20-2012 02:43 PM
