Boomerang Friendship Swap 10.0-ALCYONE Group

Boomerang Friendship Swap 10.0 ALCYONE Group :)

Mailing deadline for completed blocks will be November 10,2013.

Hello and welcome to the Boomerang Friendship Swap. This swap is about a great opportunity to get a large number of blocks from all over the world made by our online quilting friends.

How it works:
1) You will select a fabric or selection of fabrics from your stash (or you can buy new-up to you) and cut them in to Fat Eighths (18 x 11) or (9x22) We prefer the 18 x 11 for this swap as it gives a bigger cutting area for certain blocks but either measurement will work.
2) You will send each member in the swap one F8 to work with. The person who receives the fabric will make you a block with your fabric in it.
3) You may advise the person of colors you would prefer they use or not use but please do not request specific blocks. This is meant to be a “friendship” swap where your friends pick, design and create a beautiful 12.5” unfinished block for you based on the fabric you send them.
4) In turn you will receive an F8 from each member in the swap and have to make them a block.

Rules/Guidelines:
(please make sure to also refer to the basic policies that apply to all swaps announced through the board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/member-...-a-t20154.html)
1) Please make sure all fabric is prewashed prior to making the block and sending it home. You do not have to wash the fabric you receive.
2) When sending your fabric please make sure it is in some kind of sealed item (Ziploc baggy, saran wrap) with a piece of paper or even a peel-off label with your name, address and quilt board name so that the items are protected and won’t get mixed up. Please do this when returning blocks as well. (This way if for some unhuman reason the PO mangles a package the plastic has a chance at saving the work and with an address visible it just might make it home)
3) Please mail your F8 within three weeks of receiving the address list. This helps ensure we all have ample time to work on everyone's blocks.
4) Please handle all fabric received with the utmost care and place it somewhere where it won’t be lost or forgotten about.
5) In order to help keep track of the blocks sent and received I will be emailing out a chart to all members who participate so that you may fill it in as we go.
6) All blocks should be 12.5” unfinished. They can be regular pieced, paper-pieced, appliquéd-whatever the quilter decides to do. It is up to each individual. Again the feeling is to get a true friendship quilt out of this. Please do not request specific blocks as the idea is to let everyone, of every level join in and try new things and grow.
7). Please remember to trim your threads, cut your dog ears...in essence remove any excess work from the back of your block that the receiver should not have to worry about. We do not want to have any extra bulk in these blocks that are not needed (harder to quilt them :-) )
8) You may sign the back of the block if you wish to or perhaps pin a small muslin square with your name, where you live and what the name of the block is.
9) Please measure your block before mailing it. We all started somewhere but it is nice to be able to get all the blocks back measuring the same size so the quilt can go together nicely. So measure, measure and when you think it is right, measure once more
10) Please make a block that you yourself would be happy and proud to call your own.
11) This is a one block per swapper swap. You will have to make one block for each member in your group (not including yourself.)
12) Please be courteous to our swappers and post when you receive either someone's fabric or a completed block. This helps us to know the postal gremlins are not at work lol If for some reason you cannot get on the board to post please let me know and I will let the members know. We appreciate interaction with all of our swappers. You can do a weekly update as well if that works better for you.
13) Have FUN!!! This swap will let you explore your creativity as you do not have to make the same block for everyone. You can try that block you always wanted to. Try new fabrics, new colors...step outside of your comfort zone in to a different box

PLEASE DO NOT SEND FABRICS/BLOCKS WITH PERFUME OR OVERWHELMING FRAGRANCES ON THEM DUE TO ALLERGIES. THERE MAY BE MEMBERS OR FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES TO CERTAIN THINGS SO PLEASE TRY YOUR BEST TO NOT SEND ANYTHING THAT COULD CAUSE AN ATTACK

Also please remember when posting on the board to use members board names or just first names and not their full names. This is a courtesy to our members as the information here can be seen publicly and we do not want anyone to have that private info.

Please, NO public complaints or criticisms of other swappers, items received, or other type for any reason. ALL complaints must be addressed by Private Message (pm) to me. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE!!!!!

Just one more friendly reminder-please make sure your packages have proper postage on them-if you are unsure either take them to the PO or throw another stamp on. We do not want anyone to have to incur any extra expense during this fun time. Also be aware postage could run high on this swap so if you think that may be an issue you may not like this swap.

I think you will find yourself enjoying the blocks because you can work at your pace as they come in as long as they are all out by the established deadline once the swap is closed.

As always please feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns-I am always happy to help.

Hugs
April

Good morning, Boomers! We are off and running! I'm going with holiday fabric this time around. Hope to get several lap quilts once I'm done.

I've decided to give each of you the option of which holiday fabric you would like to work on. If you have a preference, please pm me and I will try to accommodate you. It must be first come first serve though. I'm in three different groups.

Your choices are:

Easter (all the same material and has several different colors. I've requested solids or tone on tones. So don't be afraid of this holiday)

St. Pat's Day (all same material. Four leaf clovers)

Patriotic (several different materials and I don't have a clue what material is in what envelope. Stuffed the envelopes a while ago)

Thanksgiving (all the same material; gold background with different colored words throughout. I requested to use the colors of the words but now am thinking pumpkins, turkey, etc. would be cool too. Can't change to note. Envelopes are already stuffed)

Christmas (this, like the Patriotic, are several different fabrics, all of which are stuffed and sealed in envelopes).

Happy Booming, Ladies!

Hi All! Similar to oldcatlady I am not in this group but would love to do some extra side swaps. PM if you are interested!

happylab 07-10-2013 08:04 AM

Hello everyone,
Happy sewing to all of my fellow swappers. I am so looking forward to swapping on this swap. Yea!!!! I just love to see what fabric you challenge me in making your blocks and what great blocks I get in return. I plan to mail out my blocks by Saturday. Still deciding if I want puppy dogs, or, Christmas fabric, or Halloween fabric. Can't do all three, that would make a funny quilt top.

Elisabrat 07-10-2013 08:48 AM

MINE ARE IN THE MAIL!!!! so just holler when you get my fabric so I know it arrived safely :)

LovingIzabella 07-10-2013 08:56 AM

IS THIS LOUD ENOUGH BRAT?? :) Oh wait...I'm not getting any squishies :( :( LOLOL

If you print the spreadsheet or save it on your computer and use it it really does help a lot :) You can even add columns so you have what you want to help you remember things :)

I added another column where I can write a note to self about what your fabric looks like. It has come in handy when I was working on two blocks at the same time and couldn't recall whose was whose!!
My envelopes all went out tonight. Sorry Brat - sent it to old addy.

Elisabrat 07-10-2013 08:07 PM

if you sent it to po box in ralston that is Jaba's she will give them to me as they arrive :) otherwise if you havent done your envelopes they go to cody, wy address.

I mailed all your lucky envelopes out so I am hopeful some will arrive by Friday.

April I am more than happy to fill your mail box with dozens of squishes promise! let me go cut them right now.. la la la I can't hear you, what your not playing? la la la la must have clogged ears thought I heard something for a second.. nope didnt hear a word. prepare to be BOMBED with squishes!

ArizonaKAT 07-11-2013 06:12 AM

Addressed all my envelopes last night. Had exactly enough! I will need to make a few Christmas ones myself. The material was cut from Fats and we all know that one Fat does not equal 2 F8s. I accommodated all that requested certain holidays but if you didn't pm me before last night, your material is going to be a surprise . . . to you and me :-)

ljdugas31 07-11-2013 09:14 AM

Well sent out all myf8s today. Sorry brat I did send yours to the wrong address.

dahna42 07-11-2013 09:47 AM

wow, you gals are fast.

Elisabrat 07-11-2013 05:08 PM

Here is one.. I received my first f8th today for another boom group! I am going to whip that up tomorrow so it goes home by Sat. Ok it was a cheat receive. I went to Jaba's and dropped mine off and picked hers up while I visit. but I have one! I win!!! first to receive!! probably doesnt count it was hand delivered.

goldendog55 07-11-2013 06:00 PM

So glad to see old faces and some new! I've had to slow down this boom. I'm doing more dyeing for selling and taking care of health problems. I am willing to do a couple of side seals using different fabric!

alikat110 07-11-2013 06:17 PM

Want to ask everyone a question.

When I washed and cut my fat quarters down, they ended up a little short on the f8. Can I send a healthy cut of a coordinating fabric to supplement and be included in the block?

catgirl807 07-11-2013 07:05 PM

As fabric should soon start coming in, I wanted to re-post the Pinterest board I made with 12 inch quilt blocks from Quilter's Cache. It's so much easier to browse their blocks when you can see the pictures! http://pinterest.com/themilocat/12-inch-quilt-blocks/

alikat110 07-11-2013 07:10 PM

Sally, thanks for the reposting of your link. It will come in handy.

benndm 07-11-2013 09:09 PM

I have all my envelopes addressed. I put my board name and group name on the lower left corner. I just have to get the fabric ready and stuffed. Hope it goes in the mail tomorrow. I can't wait to get my squishies and start sewing.

Jupiter 07-11-2013 09:53 PM

Hi Alikat...

I pre washed my fabric and of course it shrunk some. That is why we pre wash it! Cutting my F8's they are a bit short on one direction. I didn't worry about it. I sent them anyway. 10 X 18 is just as good as 11 X 18. If it were several inches short, I'd worry about it. Its still a lot of useable fabric.

I hope you enjoy the swap. I have done 3 other boomerang swaps here and have some wonderful fun quilts from the blocks.

hugs, Jupiter

Hello all!
I will be leaving for Canada early tomorrow morning for a work conference and be returning late on Thursday. I am not sure how often I will be able to check in as it is a super busy one with events all day and dinners too. It is the World Credit Union Council conference and The Global Women's Leadership Network as well.
So I hope you all have fun, behave and try not to miss me too much LOLOL You can always send me a PM or email and I will answer as soon as I can.
Hugs
April

Got my first envelope from travelinggramma! Already finished the block and will mail it tomorrow. Had to rush and get it done before family arrives tonight!

benndm 07-12-2013 03:01 PM

catgirl, you are really fast. I received you fabric today and it is beautiful. I have to give it a little thought before I make the block. My fabric should be mailed tomorrow morning.

Jupiter 07-12-2013 03:15 PM

Hey Traveling Gramma.... I got your fabric in the mailbox today. Looks like fun fabric. This evening I will be checking out block designs for this one.

hugs, Jupiter

travelinggramma 07-12-2013 05:08 PM

So glad to know that the postmaster actually sent everything out!! I had brought an envelope a few weeks ago and had them check the weight and thickness and they said it was ok for just a reg. stamp. Of course they did that before and I found them back in my mail box!
Enjoy the fabric and have fun! Try something new!

alikat110 07-13-2013 09:29 AM

Brat, I have never recieved your new address. Want to mail out Monday. Sent you a PM request for address. Will mail all others on Monday. I will mail yours after getting your address.

I have not recieved any objections to sending coordinating fabric square to send out so I will cut them today and stuff the envelopes. The envelops are labeled and ready for stamping and mailing.

Jupiter 07-13-2013 10:29 AM

I set up 2 photo albums and put the links in my signature box. 1 for blocks I made and 1 for blocks received for ALCYONE and CELAENO. If you want to peak, go to it! If you want a surprise, don't do it.

hugs, Jupiter

Elisabrat 07-13-2013 11:20 AM

I am here to say if you didn't PM me for my new address, didn't mail to the Ralston, WY address I think April did not send corrections. So PM if you still need my address please!!!

I received five squishies at the Ralston Address. I am going there for dinner tonight - actually we are all going out for delicious Mexican food oh yeah! margarta bowls here we come! oh they don't deliver it in punch bowls anymore? dang.. a trough will be fine :) I promise to let everyone know whose fabric came in when I get home. Five I wonder what tomorrow holds for me?? two blocks that is my daily limit before I flop over. I will do two more on Monday and Tues and Wed (do you detect a pattern here?).

I hope everyone takes serous the need for a uniform 12.5 block that your returning. I know you may think your checking it but I can truly say the best way to keep up on not redoing that block is to check your cut is it accurate? are you using an accurate 1/4 inch seam? put painters tape on your machine if you need help seeing that edge. Also there are a ton of videos available for free on line on how to cut, sew and MEASURE your finished block. I know its harping but I just put boom 8 together. Only 21 of my blocks were 12.5" some were a lot bigger some 3/4" inch smaller. I received back over 35 blocks. If you need help trying to figure out how to square something up so its even on all sides ask!! if you whack a bunch off on one side then you might take the points or edges of your block off leaving an uneven block. We all try our very hardest. Its easy to just guess its the right size. Take your time. This is the no rush group.if you have time I also suggest making one practice or four practice 12.5 inch blocks to make sure you have it down before you start cutting for the swap. Any quilt store near you will also give you tips on how to do this and the advice well its free take it!!! ok off my lecture box and back into margarta bowls. :)

happy sewing! off to sew Marytoddliz's block. I think Aqua is the way to go in my minds eye or maybe the pretty purple. Her little grand daughter is a total kick. She is perfect for a high energy quilt that little one! oh oh MB I got your fishies today in the mail Muchas Gracias Amore!

catgirl807 07-13-2013 01:25 PM

Received fabric from brat today. Only one from this group, but my mailbox was stuffed with other fabrics! Off to do some work!
