Did you check your Spam folder, that's where mine was. I immediately added April to my contacts so that doesn't happen again! |
Got the list..thanks April! Only problem Im having is converting the spread sheet to labels? Im sure its because I dont know what Im doing! LOL It sure saves time to be able to print out labels instead of hand writing the envelopes! Any help would be appreciated! Joan

I think it was July 1! Seems like a long time away but it will go so fast!
|
Mailing deadline is July 15, 2012 which I did put on each groups main page. I cannot edit my original post here to reflect that date though :(
Hugs April |
can anyone send me instructions on how to do a mail merge with excel so I can print out labels. I have been sick with divriticulitis and all my fat 8ths are cut but I wont be mailing until Monday. You can send the instructions to my private email if you wish...Thanks so much for any help. I dont do it ofetn enough to remember.

Just in case anyone needs help with labels try this:
Open and save the excel spreadsheet in your documents. Open up word, click on mailings, start mail merge and then choose the step by step wizard. From the right choose labels, then next, then choose label options from right, the box that pops up 5160 is generally the 3 rows 10 per row address label format, then next to select recipients, browse and choose the excel spreadsheet, click next arrange labels click address block, match fields in the lower right, first name should be swapper name, last name & suffix not matched, company (this is optional) you can put their boardname here or not matched, address 1 will be street name, address 2 not matched, city will be city, state & zip, state & postal code will be not matched and country or region will be country. Once you select these fields click okand then ok again and then update all labels on the right hand side. Then click on next preview your labels then next complete the merge and then print on the right. You should be good to go. I would recommend not putting their board name on the labels as this may make them too large. This was posted to the Water group by Ruth. Worked for me. Debra |
Just an update: scrapquilt, Abby's Mom, abonda,Cyndi H, dove911 and goldendog55 I got your fabric today and will start working on your blocks. Just so you know, those of you that only put a 45 cent stamp on your envelope, I had to pay 20 cents more to get your material. Please when you send back your blocks, have the postage checked. Thank you
|
More wind group squishies came today !!!!!- dotcomdtcom, oma7 and scrapper. Can't wait to start creating
|
I took all my envelopes to the window and had them weighed. The clerk told me that the only ones that needed more than 45 cents was the ones going to Canada.
|
I did the same thing, Pat. I even experimented, using regular size and legal size envelopes. All were 45 cents except Canada. By the way, your block is done and will be in the mail tomorrow afternoon.
|
dove19 and scrapquilt...I hate to tell you this, but when your envelopes get to my post office the mailman will pay the extra 20 cents. The reason they charge 65 cents is because they hand cancel soft items because they get caught in their machines. A lot of the post office employees just test the little slot to see if they go through...they don't even think about how many of them get torn open and shipped in post office "body bags". When I get home tonight I will take a picture of one of the regular size envelopes after it went thru their machine. The post offices across the country do things differently, that's why the discrepencies. I know this subject has been beaten to death...I'm just trying to help people understand why they should just buy the 65 cents and get it over with. Having said all that...I will gladly pay the extra money to get my squishie from you...I will never send them back.
|
Thanks for letting us know Missgigglewings. Jaba I'm sorry you had to pay 20cents on my letter......... I did have the post office weigh mineand thought I was doing the right thing. He said it was fine. This is my first Boom so I apoligize! When I get your f8, I will make up for it. Thanks for letting me know.
|
A post script on postage - and yes, I know the subject has been beaten to death.
I took my f8s to the post office yesterday. All were in legal size envelopes. I asked the clerk to hand cancel them. She checked weight. The Canadian envelope went for $.85. The US envelopes she considered first class packages and charged $1.95 each. They were prepared in the same manner as some I received which had only $.45 or $.65 postage. So your post office personnel make a big difference. This happened to be the postmaster, who is a stickler for details. If anyone gets my envelope and needs to pay more postage, let me know! |
The postage is always an interesting thing to see in this swap. I have seen some go for standard letter rate and others up to almost $2.00. I really think it depends on the PO and the people working as Quilt Mom stated. You would think it should/would be standard but it does not seem that way. In fact if I take a package to my local PO it will be one price and if I take it to the PO where I work it is another...odd indeed
Hugs April |
Oh my...if anyone had to pay for mine, let me know. :)
|
I wasn't trying to step on anyone's toes....Honest! if I have I sincerely apologize. This is my first swap, when I took mine to the PO to send, they told me 65cents. They all came back the next day. They wanted 1.10 each, so I paid the difference and sent them on their way. Was told if they had been in a 5 X 7 manilla envelope instead of a legal sized envelope it would have been 84 cents. Don't know how they figure this one???? I do know how to send them now, I think, wrapped in saran wrap instead of a zip lock baggie. Didn't know a baggie could weigh that much. Anyway you learn something everyday and trust me at the ripe age of 65 I'm really glad I do. With that being said, I'm having so much fun seeing the different fabric coming my way and figuring out a square. I'd do one of these booms again in a heartbeat. Again, to all of you, if I have hurt someone's feelings I am truly sorry, please forgive me .

Jaba didnt hurt my feelings...... Just don't want you to pay for my responsibility. I would do another boom too! It is a blast.... I love getting surprises in the mail. It just sinks that the Post Office tries to make as much money on us as they possibly can. NOT FAIR but that's life... I'm not sweating the small stuff. :)

I don't think anyone got their feelings hurt! Discussing the postage and the different things we hear and see is a rite-of-passage for these Boom Swaps! So welcome to the first timers...I am sure you will love it as we all do!

Hey Y'all, Just curious as to how you keep up with all the fabric you are now receiving? Here's how I did it for boom 6, my first boom. After marking the date I received it on the spreadsheet, I put the fabric, any note and the envelope in a large ziplock bag. Then I go thru my stash to see what matches and add that to the ziplock. Then I put all the filled ziplocks in a basket to keep together. That way everything is together and all I have to do is pull out a baggie when I am ready to sew!
|
Thanks for this info. I was using file folders for the fabric pieces, envelopes and notes but this keeps things together better without anything dropping out the side. I write everything on the spreadsheet .. kinda' like a journal for me.

Sent back blocks today to abonda, goldendog55, and scrapquilt. Received from charlottemarie, mosher92, sustraley, and bibleostone. This is Christmas. absolutely love it......abonda your fabric is awesome, something I would never have bought in the store but once I picked and chose the co-ordinates.....I fell in love. REALLY want to see your finished quilt. Still trying to figure out how to post pics, I've got to be computer illiterate on this site.
|
EWEEE can't wait to get mine back! Thanks Jaba. I fell in love with my fabric the minute I saw it. I love different and unusal. I'll be sure to post a pic of the finished product after all my block are in. In the meantime though I will post a pic for you of the block you made me when I get it for everyone to see! :)

Hi all,
received the following f8's from.... abby's mom,abonda,babeyruth,charlottemarie,cyndih,dove911 ,dungeonquilter, goldendog55,jaba,joanelizbay,ljdugas31,marcialee,m issgigglewings,mosher92,ncquilter,oldcatlady,quilt ingkrazy, roseysue, scrapquilt, ssnare, sustraley, wendsy. all arrived in good shape a few had messed up envelopes but fabric was okay. Mine will go out on monday 3/26/12. happy quilting to all! |
I mailed out some of my F8's today most sent the same way same cut. Some was sent with just 45 cent stamp and then some was sent with 20 cents extra it's crazy how the same cut of fabric, same envelope, tape and stamp can be different and I ask her why! What I don't understand is that she weigh it without the stamp it went for 45 cent stamp, but if I had already had the stamp on it she added 20cents more tell me how crazy this is...I paid it and went on my way but I sure was baffled how they rip you off....
And I have not be offended at all... Donna Please let me know if any one had to pay extra 20 cents, all the F8 I've received with the 45 cent stamp made it here with out any problems.... . |

This is the quilt top I made from the purple fabric I sent out. I'm donating it to the Hurricane Sandy survivors. I can't machine quilt for the life of me so dotcomdtcm is going to be so kind to do that for me, thank you Dotty! Thanks to everyone in Boom 7 who made one of the blocks. I can just see a little girl who loves purple and pink loving this quilt. I'm hoping I can post it, giving it a try....
|
OMG, I love it. It's so cool to see and get ideas of what to do with the finished blocks!!!!!
