Ok that makes sense thanks! I am in then!

dakotamaid 01-13-2010 08:05 PM

Count me in, too many in my family have or are fighting breast cancer.

I'm thinking about the Ohio star cause it is my MIL's favorite block and she is a survivor!

samroberts01 01-13-2010 08:25 PM

Ok so figured out the block I am going to do! I am so excited! Here it is.

charismah 01-13-2010 10:13 PM

DO we have to tell you ahead of time which block we are doing? ALso Can I just mail all of my blocks at the same time? The first date? And then You can just mail them all back to me the second date? Or is that to confusing?

ladygen 01-13-2010 10:32 PM

I'm a little mixed up by what we mail in and when, too. Are we to send in half a set per date, or is the second date in case we do a second set? Or..?

sdparent 01-14-2010 04:11 AM

I had initially set it up to be less stressful on everyone by having the 2 dates so you only had to do 6 at a time but if you send me 12 in the first mailing you will get 12 back. If you decide to send all of them in on the first date and decide you want to do another set for the second mailing date that would be totally fabulous. Now I am starting to get excited with the new additions last night, THANK YOU ALL so very much for joining me in trying to make a difference. I will send you all a PM so if you have any questions please feel free to drop me a line.

Hurraaaaaaaay, for all the new joiners! It's fun to do something that is so meaningful and collectively, we can make a difference in someone else's life, in lots of different ways. Thanks for joining.

there's a google ad on this thread now for a site called "the breast cancer site"

it says that every order helps fund mammograms for women in need.

sdparent 01-15-2010 04:52 AM

Thank you for sharing Klue, that is so exciting to see google pick up on this thread! I would like to see more participants to make this a bigger awareness project. THANK YOU to ALL of you that have joined the cause, I am so grateful for your support.

i hope more people join in too - its an extremely worthy cause.

missbehavin 01-15-2010 08:20 AM

Hi all, I was in our chat room when I came across Sandi.. I am going to join this swap as well. It is a very worthy cause. I will have to find which block pattern I am going to do and once I do I will post it here for all to see.. I am excited about this..

nursie76 01-15-2010 08:32 AM

Count me in! Now I just have to decide what material and what block...hmmmm!

nursie76 01-15-2010 08:36 AM

BTW would it be acceptable if I machine embroidered either a heart or Pink ribbon in the center of white and then made a block around it? I found a free pink ribbon embroidery design and would love to incorporate this into the block.

sdparent 01-15-2010 08:47 AM

That would be fabulous! Thank you!

mosher92 01-15-2010 02:03 PM

Great Sandi. I too am glad to see people joining in. It truely is a good cause and it touches so many of us in various ways. If we can do one thing to help even one person it is all worth it. Thanks again girl for hosting such as special swap.

kluedesigns 01-15-2010 02:07 PM

yes, thank you so much for hosting this most wonderful swap.

nursie76 01-15-2010 05:06 PM

OK, got ideas for the block, but have one question. I have never done this, so if this sounds like a silly question, please forgive me. If we make 12 blocks and send 12 in, we will get twelve back. Now that would make a 3 X 4 quilt. So if I make twelve and send twelve, then none of my blocks would be in my finished quilt? Also, you designated Pink and White. Are any accenting colors permitted? Like chocolate brown or green, or are we sticking with just the two colors. Just want to get this right.
Thanks.

i can't answer the color options but i can address the block situation.

you make 12 blocks and mail in 12 blocks - the organizer will return 1 of your original blocks along with 11 blocks made by other people in the swap.

sdparent 01-15-2010 05:57 PM

I am thinking fabrics that remind you of breast cancer awareness colors, white on white is fine, pinks and other small print colors or even a pastel type range (try to make pink and white be the primary colors so that the blocks have the same feel). I recently saw a couple of fabrics with inspirational sayings on them under a breast cancer fabric heading, one had birds on it that was cute and that had other colors in it. I am not sure I am helping with your question. I will trust your judgement, I'm sure whatever you make will be fabulous. Thank You!!!

So... A base of pink and white, though other colors in addition are acceptable. I'm pretty sure one of my blocks will have that bird fabric in it!

brushandthimble 01-16-2010 04:42 PM

I decided on the block to make, Jacobs Ladder, chosen out of "The New Sampler Quilt" by Diana Leone. I have most of the fabric cut out, pulled them all from my stash. :) I even have the backing in my stash, perfect for it (lets hope there is enough).

sdparent 01-16-2010 06:03 PM

I am making a Jacob's Ladder quilt top right now and I love making those blocks, I am sure your's will be beautiful.

Okay I have a question - I found at a local fabric store the breast cancer material that has the ladies on it. Some have scarves on their heads, some are just bald and I am sure some have hats too. Would you ladies find it appropriate if I incorporated one of those squares in to each block (I am pretty sure I have enough to make 12) or would you prefer I pick a regular quilt block instead?!? I wasn't sure exactly how much some people wanted it to represent the cancer that distinctly.
Any thoughts would be great!
Kendra

ladygen 01-17-2010 08:35 AM

I can see how some might mind, but I don't!

kluedesigns 01-17-2010 08:38 AM

i don't mine either. i actually have some of that fabric too.

MadeinMaine 01-17-2010 09:08 AM

I would not mind either

sdparent 01-17-2010 10:23 AM

I wouldn't mind, anyone who doesn't want a block like that can send me a PM and I will try to make sure they don't get it in their pkg. Sounds great to me.

I am going to embroider the breast cancer pink ribbon in the center of my block. I was wondering if it would be acceptable to add the word "hope" under it? Any thoughts?

sdparent 01-17-2010 10:44 AM

I think that would be great!
