Christmas Ornament Swap 2016 is Open for Enrollment!!

Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. It is time to have some fun. This will be the seventh Annual Christmas Ornament Swap. Here are the details and if you have any questions PM me.

Christmas/Holiday Ornament Swap Guidelines:

1. Sign up by October 22, 2016. I must have your sign up by Midnight CDT. No late entries please.

Mail to your partner on or before November 18, 2016. International packages must be mailed on or before November 11, 2016. These are hard dates and must be met by everyone. Please make sure you have a tracking/confirmation number on your package. It just makes it easier to find in the event a package is delayed or lost in the mail.

Even though I know you want to, hold off on opening that great package until December 3rd at 2:00pm CST. It is always so much fun to open them with the others who are participating in the swap.

2. The Ornament must be handmade. It doesn't *have* to be quilted. But, please make it something that you would like to receive.

3. Each participant can sign up for only one swap partner this year please. If all works out this year, maybe we will open it up to two ornament buddies next year. I am sorry if this causes any unhappiness. But, I am trying to be on the safe side since this is my first year running this.

4. This will be a direct person to person mailing. I will PM everyone your swap person's name that you will be sending to on October 24th and 25th. This will give me time to sort out names and draw them out. Then the ornament mail out begins any time after the first of November.

5. This will be an international swap so if mailing internationally is a concern for you, please let me know at the time you sign up. The person mailing internationally should mail as early as possible so the swapper overseas can have their ornament along with us by the end of November or so.

6. If you would like to participate, please PM me the following information:

Screen name:
Real name:
Complete Address:
phone number (for hostess use only)
Can you mail internationally
I can be an ornament angel in case of non-performance by another member?
Any additional information that will make it easier for your partner to pick the correct types or colors of ornaments to make for you.

EXAMPLE. I have a small tree, blue color schemes, or perhaps I collect___.

7. Make sure that you enclose a note or card in your ornament mailing box to let the person know who you are! That way they can thank you and give you credit on the board when they post a picture.

8. Please read the guidelines for all swaps on the board at this link. It applies to this swap.http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-20154-1.htm

9. Have Fun and let your creativity flow! This always is such a special swap. Please PM me is you have any questions. I will be happy to assist in any way I can.

10. This is a Secret, names drawn from the bowl randomly, swap and you will not necessarily be mailing to the same person you will receive from. But, it could happen.

11. Please PM me with your tracking/confirmation number information when you have sent your package.

Also, PM me once you receive a package. This is so important! This will make it a little easier on me and keep us on track when the deadline arrives. Please be a kind swapper and help me out in this way, ok?

12. Please make sure you can make and send the ornament on time before committing to the swap. If somehow you have signed up and there is a problem that arises and you cannot send to your partner, let me know immediately by sending a pm here on the board! We don't want to disappoint someone do we?

Last, but not least, let’s share pictures of our creations as we go. The other person does not know who is sending to them until they receive it, so it will be fun to see and share as we go along. OK?

Have fun and enjoy your Christmas ornament swap everyone.

You could look on the earlier years Christmas Ornament Swap posts to get some ideas as to what kind of ornaments were swapped.

All2Pieces 09-04-2016 01:05 PM

Just sent my info to Anoka Quilter. This will be my first time. Thanks for the suggestion to look in last year's thread; the photos and ideas were great. I'm looking forward to this!

CookieZenmilk 09-04-2016 03:47 PM

this massachusetts girl is signing up too!

m-fay 09-05-2016 12:55 AM

Hi Betty J, I'm a West Aussie (mid west)

Anoka Quilter 09-05-2016 03:12 PM

I hope that everyone had a great Labor Day weekend.

Thank you to everyone who answered questions for members that had them.

I for one like to wait till I get my persons name before making my ornament for my swap partner. The reason I do this is incase they have something specific they may want.

I also want to thank all those who come forward to be an angel and ship internationally.

jclinganrey 09-09-2016 11:44 AM

I looked through the ornament swap from last year. Good suggestion, BTW - - - turns out the idea I had is not a new one. Darn. ((no huge surprise, I guess. . . )). I've checked Pinterest for ideas too. Where do you look for ideas?

dotcomdtcm 09-09-2016 11:55 AM

Any little block makes a nice ornament. I admire those who can work small.
Or head over to Wee Folk for wonderful felt appliques!

CookieZenmilk 09-10-2016 03:19 PM

i finished my ornament today!

Quilty-Louise 09-10-2016 07:23 PM

Cookie see here I am <jumping up and down waving>

Not many here may not be aware of my "previous" history, but cookie
and I go wayyyyyyyyyy back to the days of cafemom when we was in
one of the same groups called quiltingmoms.

Cookie was an OUTSTANDING fabric post card swap hostess.

If I were you I would go over to the Peacemakers quilt shop! I love that place. LOL...

Seriously girls there is inspiration everywhere on the web. Maybe try pinterest or google ornaments and a few will show up. Also some of the fabric stores on line have cute patterns for sale. My favorite are the paper pieced ones. If you have an embroidery machine you could check the embroidery sites. Or maybe shabby chic on line for their cute patterns for christmas. I have seen a couple cute regular hand embroidered ones there.
How about going to a craft store and checking the ornament section out. It does say hand made but not necessarily hand sewn.

craftymatt2 09-11-2016 06:32 PM

sent a pm, i am in,, cannot wait

Anoka Quilter 09-12-2016 09:02 AM

Remember the ornaments do not need to be quilted, just handmade. In the past I have received quilted ones, knitted ones, felted ones, and a really original one made from wine corks.

I love pintrest for ideas. Also, I know that Red put up a lot of links last year with ideas for ornaments so you could always scroll through last years posts.

I am giving it a little time so people can sign up; but I too will be posting ideas to inspire people. I was going to wait till the first part of October to do this; however, maybe I should move that date up.

I have a few fun things planned to keep the group active and the conversation flowing once the sign-up closes. So for those of you who have signed up early here is a little enticement so you can start thinking about it.
1) Favorite Family Tradition
2) Favorite holiday recipe
3) Favorite holiday song
4) At least two contests. I have some fun holiday FQ's that are just waiting for a new home.

I saw something the other day on Face Book that Christmas is 15 weeks away....isn't that a scary thought!

K-Roll 09-12-2016 10:41 AM

I have a tradition that started 6 years ago when I moved into my own home, I have my Mum come stay on Christmas Eve, we have a delicious meal and then watch a different Christmas movie or TV show (DVD). Then on Christmas day we go to my brothers and sisters places for Mum to see the grand-daughters. Its a nice relaxing Christmas Eve before the rush of Christmas day!

Looks like there's at least 3 aussies in this swap. This will be my 2nd one. I have made a felt ornament of an australian wild flower (I did some last time too) and my daughter has made some felt elf shoes that I fell in love with. but if my partner has a special request....I'll endeavour to do that.
