Lynnie do kids celebrate Halloween in Australia? I heard in Holland at think it was Easter the kids dress up and what we would call trick or treat but not or the Halloween we celebrate here in America. Curiosity and all love learning about other countries holidays so please share so we can all learn. Also do you celebrate a type of Thanksgiving and if so when??
We don't celebrate Thanksgiving or anything like that on a certain day/date but at the beginning of our autumn (April) there are lots of food festivals to celebrate the abundance of great food. Christmas Day is celebrated by a large hot mid-day meal with turkey/stuffing etc but because that is in our summer, lots of people nowadays just have a picnic lunch in parks or backyard barbeques and seafood is more favourable than the traditional hot turkey/roast. There are a lot more fun holiday days in America than there are here in Australia that's for sure. Australia Day (January 26) is probably our most popular day where everyone joins in some kind of celebrations. |
Us American's just like to Party! so any day we can create a theme... time to have a party! lol

Hi to my DQ friends! I am in for Sept. and I will do TRICK. One of my designs is in this months Fons & Porter and it is "a cat fright sight" with a cat face and pumpkin button. I stitched one up last night and I just have to put the back on and sew on buttons and its ready to go! Now this is very unusual for me, usually I try and toss out at least three ideas before I get going! So I'm feeling pretty tickled right now! By the way....I missed you all last month.

I will participate for Sept. and I'll do either.

Thanks Lynnie, I used to have a good friend from Australia. Her hubby was stationed at the airforce base near us in CA. I couldn't remember what that big day was Australia day is it. She said it was like our Thanksgiving in equivalence. Our boys went to the same school so we tried to do all the holidays together it was a whole lot of fun and a whole lot of holidays! Here in America Halloween is the second best selling holiday next to Christmas. I am for one into a more homespun concept but I think I am alone. I love the holidays but create them yourselves don't go buy it all. not to be for sure. a dying dinosaur I am!

We came up to the cabin for a LONGGGGG weekend (Friday to Tuesday).
Than there was a late afternoon rain shower (small amount of lightning and thunder but not much), afterwards we saw this awesome rainbow on the lake across the street. The picture may not show it but the rainbow is in the MIDDLE of the lake (or at least from our view it is). Have a HAPPY and SAFE holiday weekend everyone. |
