Hi! I’m interested in giving this a try. I’ve never made a quilted postcard. Any tips and suggestions are welcome!

Queenbarbiej 02-03-2021 08:48 AM

M-fay I'm in. I'll pm you with my info.

Please include me again.

Hi. I am wondering what you all use/prefer for forming the postcards. I've used a stiff center, which I dislike sewing on, but like the finished product and it held up well mailing. I've received several with alternatives that are lovely... and that seem much more fun to make. Since the challenge of postal services here in FL, USA, I have had to mail in regular envelop, as opposed to sending as a traditional post card. I guess I'm really asking: 1) does it matter for our purposes? 2) do you have preferences?
You can tell I have too much sitting-around-home time, hahah. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png
Regards.

m-fay 02-07-2021 09:45 PM

I don't think it matters. As long as there's 3 layers and quilted and edged. Only another few days and I'll put up who you will be posting to

If you don't know your partners address please PM her or me for it Thanks ....Posting mine off today

Mpepperm37. I use buckrum for my cards I use visaflex to attach the back fabric and front to the buckrum , then with the wadding it makes a firm card

OurWorkbench 02-11-2021 06:23 AM

Sorry to interrupt, I wondered what visaflex was. After some research, I found that it is an Australian paper-backed interfacing. It is also known as visoflex and Vliesofix. Probably comparable to Wonder Under.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled swap https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wink.png.

Thanks R-sea and OurWorkbench. I love learning about others' technique and new-to-me products.
I joined this group hesitantly a while back, not too sure about making quilted postcards. I have thoroughly enjoyed making them and the great collection of those received. Thanks everyone!

Queenbarbiej 02-15-2021 04:21 AM

Blueridgebeverly, I meant to tell you that I mailed your card on Friday the 12th. Hopefully you should receive it on Wednesday 17th.

Lena1952 02-15-2021 05:17 AM

Things have settled a bit in my life, well for now at least, so hopefully I can join you again for next months challenges. For those that were interested in my shaker card and the edge finish I used, I'd be happy to explain them if this would be helpful to anyone. Post cards are like small art projects for me. A place to try new techniques or products without wasting too much fabric or time. Although some of my post cards do end up taking alot of time to work out the details:-) I just consider it exercising my brain and a good way to relieve stress or blow out some cobwebs.

R-sea 02-15-2021 11:01 PM

Lena1952, you have said the exact reason why I like the post card swap. They say if you don't use the brain you will loose it . I haven't got enough to loose any

I’m glad it arrived quickly. I enjoyed making it. A little boat on a stormy day.

marietta 02-18-2021 02:48 PM

I also forgot to say I mailed out my card on Friday Feb 12, to R~Sea. Things around here have been crazy as I know for most others with the weather. We finally got our power back late last night after 3 or 4 days without, still no water but hoping soon !!

I’m so glad you have power back, Marietta! I’ve been following the news. Very scary situation for everyone.
