Here are some pictures of the wedges and the plate in progress.
I feel like I am still strugling with getting nice crisp points. It is the first time I have made points this way. I have done Dresden plates before but they had a smooth edge. Rotary cut with home made Dresden wedge ruler from 4 inch strips. Chain piecing. Backstitch at tip. After trimming the tip off the seam at the point side, turning and pressing tips. And two by two they are sewn. All seams are pressed to the same side first from the back and then from the front. Sets are sewn together till each is half a plate. Lay on line and sliver trim to make sure each is exactly half a plate. When I said sliver trim I meant it. Press seam the right direction on back and then press plate from the front. enjoy and admire your work. try not to be too hard on one self. Auditioning different fabrics for the center and leaves. Oh yeah that will be oh so pretty! Up to 9 1/2 Dresden wedge ruler DH made out of plexiglass. Wonderful! He scored lines for height in inches. I marked over the back of the 4 inch line with a permanent marker. |
Now I really an jealous - a featherweight

That looks wonderful on your plates. How nice you got a plate made. I may coherce mine to do that for me. |
You can take you paper template to a glass cutter and they can cut one out of plastic for pennies..............

Hmm Help!
Question time, on Quilters cache it says to cut 3" x 36" strips of the fabrics and yet the dresden template given is 4" . Should the strips actually be bigger? |
I think they wanted you to cut the plates by width of top and not the height of plate. You seem to get more plates and easier to use ruler if you cut the strip 4" wide and then cut your plates. This way you can rotate the plate to save fabric and get more done.
