This is not Secret Santa. That will be ran by some one else.

So nope :)

How is this different from a Secret Santa? I just wanted to know because I guess that's what I thought I was signing up for. :)

owlvamp 08-25-2011 02:22 PM

This is not the Secret Santa swap. From my understanding there can only be one of those. So this is a New Years Swap. Kinda the same thing but for New Years. So you wouldn't really wrap your gifts and open your box when you get it and not have to wait. It's a help relax swap after the hectic Christmas .Please still show what you received for us all to see. I hope I said it correctly and not stepped on bookworm's toes. If I did and incorrect I am sorry. Thats how I understand it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

owlvamp 08-25-2011 02:25 PM

What happens after Christmas? Some start preparing for the next year; some probably shove their machines in the closest closet and try to forget about sewing for a couple months. Either way once the stressful holidays are over we need to relax, which brings me to the theme of this swap. This swap is to help another feel relaxed and at peace before moving on to all the hectic stress of life in the new year....

thelondonzoo 08-25-2011 02:25 PM

I like the idea of not having to wait. ;)

owlvamp 08-25-2011 02:28 PM

Yea me too. When I receive a box I am like a kid and what to dig right in.

bookworm 08-25-2011 03:03 PM

Owlvamp, my toes aren't that big ;)

She is correct.

I also have difficulty waiting. That's why I signed up for this one.

owlvamp 08-25-2011 05:32 PM

Ok good to know. Whew  Cool glad I did it right..

Havplenty 08-29-2011 06:22 PM

owlvamp the mailing for this swap is december 3rd so it is right in there with all the hectic christmas stuff. i had to go back and read the rules because reading your post, i thought hmmm well it would be nice to do this swap after christmas but not so. so right in the middle of our hectic christmas holiday planning, we will be putting together our swap packages.

i now wonder why is it named happy new year swap when it takes place before christmas. just curious.

wanda lou 08-30-2011 11:29 AM

I am already working on my package for this swap, just need to personalize it.
I am having way too much fun with this, and I think someone will be pleased.

J.M. 08-31-2011 02:25 AM

I'm in! Just sent the PM.

We'll be sending directly to our recipient (sp?), righ? No self-addressed and stamped things? (I can't figure out how to do that, given that I'm in the Netherlands and many who join swaps here are not - I doubt US postal offices will look kindly on Dutch stamps!)

bookworm 08-31-2011 05:52 AM

That's correct J.M. :)

J.M. 08-31-2011 11:34 AM

Okay, thanks! I thought so, but then I started doubting myself.

wanda lou 08-31-2011 10:10 PM

JM Welcome to the swap, I think you are going to like it.
Have you ever joined the Monthly secret pal swap? It's so much fun and you mail directly to the person.

I did see it, but I'm afraid my budget at the moment is not up for sending internationally every month.

wanda lou 09-01-2011 08:35 PM

Join us any time.

The US post office will deliver your package/envelope. Your post office will weight and tell you how much postage you need, put on your local stamps, and send it on.
When we send to other countries we put on the amount based on weight, and when it gets to its destination the local post office delivers. The post offices reciprocate deliveries.

Thanks for starting this. It sounds like such fun. I am relatively new here, but read it everyday now. Count me in, and I will pm you shortly. I want to be one of the family now.

JuneBillie 09-03-2011 01:25 AM

I just sent in my PM :)

Candi I have a feeling you might get my name.

wanda lou 09-03-2011 08:26 PM

Who can we convince to do a Happy Fall Or Halloween Swap?

bookworm 09-03-2011 08:36 PM

You can host it ;)

JuneBillie 09-04-2011 02:00 AM

Maybe I missed this, but do we get contacted here with a private message letting us know the things the other person likes even though we don't know who it is at this time?

candi 09-04-2011 02:55 AM

June, you get contacted via PM from bookworm with your pal's name and information. You know who you are sending your package to and send it directly to your partner, but they don't know who is sending them packages, clear as mud?

Yes, that is how it works when you send directly to the recipient. But there are a lot of swaps – like swapping quilt blocks where you send in a set and get different ones back - where everyone sends to a central person, who then shuffles things around and sends things back. They often ask you to put a self-addressed and stamped envelope inside the package so they don’t have to pay for the postage of the return package. But I have never been able to figure out how that works internationally.
