Welcome to the January 2020 Mug Rug Swap! This month’s theme is: Heavens Above

Heavens above is anything related to what is in the sky (stars, clouds, moon, sun, planets, comets, etc.) Get those creative minds to thinking and make a beautiful Mug Rug for your Partner.

Signup begins; 20 December 2019

Signup closes: 31 December 2019 at midnight

Partners will be assigned no later than: 2 January 2020
Mail by dates: International 10 January 2020/ all others 20 January 2020 these dates are firm.

What is a mug rug? A mug rug is an item you use to place a cup of coffee, tea or soda on, along with a small snack plate/napkin beside it. It’s approximately 9”x8” or larger so both items will fit. Please do not make it smaller than 9”x8” as that is quite small for both items as it is!

1. You will be assigned a partner. This is not a secret pal swap. Each partner will contact the other partner for addresses. Will you make something abstract, realistic or whimsical? Will you appliqué or paper-piece or just go with regular piecing?

2. It must be made with 100% quilter’s cotton, with a nice cotton batting in between to protect furniture from possible damage due to heat/cold. Use a binding method you are comfortable with, or practice & learn a new binding technique! Also, the mug rug must be quilted. Remember, this is a gift you are making for someone. Be proud of your work & do your best. And be kind about what you receive. If you have any issues, please work it out with your partner first, before contacting me; communication is key. This board is for all of us to make friends & have fun.

3. You must send your name, address and phone number for emergency’s only to me, Armylady2012 by December 31st.Don’t forget to send me notice (with tracking number) that you have sent to your partner. Any delays must be shared with me prior to this date. I want everyone to receive a partner’s trade. We should not have to request angels. Again, communication is important. You can be forgiven if something comes up & you notify your partner & me prior to the end of your swap mail date requirement. But if you don’t communicate & don’t send out a mug rug to your partner, you will be locked out of swapping with this group and negative feedback will insure other swap groups know you didn't send.

4. You are free to include little gifts with your mug rug, handmade or store-bought; it’s up to you. But you are only obligated to send a mug rug. Nothing else is required in this swap.

5. Any questions? Contact me immediately and I will help get you started.


6. Please take a photo before you ship your package to your partner, just in case she cannot post a photo. We all want to see photos! But don’t post it until you know your partner has received your package & that she is unable to post a photo.


7. Also, please let me know if you can mail internationally! This is important, as we have quite a few international swappers who want to join us, & I don’t want anybody to be left out. So if you can ship internationally — even just one time — that would make it more fun for our overseas & Canadian swappers!

Remember you are required by the board to send things you sign up for, or risk not having the ability to swap again in other swaps. Again, per board rules, anything about your partner or the item they swap to you that does not please you is not to be posted on the board but sent in a PM to me or to your partner to sort out. It’s polite and it’s the right thing to do.

Stars, I've got stars in my eyes and only wish I felt well enough to get the stars from my fabrics. Had a back procedure yesterday but I'm excited to be in a swap here, sounds like fun so I'm in.

Is it too soon to get to work? I’ve a great idea and am settling down to pull fabrics now. Hey, it’s about 2am and I can’t sleep, can’t think of anything better to get up to.

Time is creeping up....and I haven't even thought of what I'm going to do! Think granky, think! Guess that exercise will keep me occupied for a while!

Finally decided on something....no pattern, of course, so winging it. First try didn't work, but the second one just might (If my recipient is kind, and likes whimsy!).

I know that I read (somewhere) a list of mug rug topics for the next few months, but now I can't find it. Did anyone by chance copy it? If not, I hate to bother Armylady, but I suppose I'll have to...if I want the list...

This list was posted near the end of the November Mug Rug swap. I am excited about the birthstone month idea.

February 2020 - anything with a heart or you can add a heart
March 2020 - anything with green and white
April 2020 - Partners Birth Stone color
May 2020 - Music - make a mug rug letting your partner know what is a favorite song you like and see if they can guess what it is.
June 2020 - Feathered Friends
July 2020- Sports - a lot of sports happen around this time so let us know what you like to play or watch (Basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, swimming, etc)

I received my mug rub from Boop56. Love my shooting star which looks so festive for the new year! Thank you boop. I mailed yours today!

Also, in a post somewhere.... don't remember which thread it was associated with.... was a question as to my member name "Bugaroo". Our dog is a black golden doodle (see picture by my name). Very smart dog. So when he was a puppy I called him my Doodle Bug. When he jumped in bed with us, he was a Bed Bug. When was to evacuate the kitchen he had to Bug Out, So his name Bugaroo just fits his personality so so well!.

Funnest thing he has done was when we were planting apple trees. I had the holes dug about a foot down when he jumps in the hole, head first, and begins to dig. He dug the hole another foot deeper! I had a wonderful 2 foot hole. Thinking this was a one time thing, I began the next hole.as he was curled up inside the first hole.. same helpful digging Bug. We did 8 trees that way! Then the next year we planted blueberry bushes.... he did the same thing digging my holes!

Cuppy...Your package went out today in the pouring rain which I thought was appropriate for "Heaven's Above". You should get it Thursday.

Judith1005....your package is in the mail...hope you like it! Will probably arrive about Wednesday????

Granky, I received my mug rug today. I love it. It is so cute. It makes me smile. And, the extras are so thoughtful. I will try to get a photo posted tomorrow. I should have yours out to you by tomorrow. Just giving it a last once over and it will go out in the mail.

Judith..I'm glad you like it. I haven't posted a picture yet, but if you have problems with the task I'll give it a try....just let me know...

Trying so hard to figure out about posting pictures. Getting frustrated. On my computer there is no smiley face with paperclip beside it. on my tablet there is but it is saying url and I have no idea what that is. But I have received my mug rugs from mpepperm37 and Bugaroo and I really do like them.

Boop56...I'm frustrated too...not because I can't post a picture to the board, but because, for some reason, I can't get the pic loaded to my computer! I use Adobe Photoshop, and have never had a problem previously. Have tried both a laptop and desktop....no go on either one. My mug rug from Judith1005 is precious, and I would love to post a pic! If I don't succeed by.tomorrow, am going to ask Judith if she can post for me. Sorry Judith!

Thanks Judith. I finally got the pictures to download to my computer, so now all I have to do is figure out how to post...which shouldn't be too hard...I hope. I do want to tell everyone that the picture posted doesn't do justice to the actual Mug Rug. It is much brighter and more vibrant than the picture.....

Ladies I am happy to see some pictures of this months Mug Rugs they all are beautiful and very creative. The February thread has been posted. I really am having a difficult time with the new program for the board.

Hubby mailed my package last Monday. Looking forward to seeing my partners.
