I don't get it either. I won't mention their name anymore and give them advertising.

Deby

That is absolutely, unequivocally the WORST commercial ever!!!!!! I think I'm going to write to JC Penny's CEO (you can find home address' of CEO's online....and tell them so :0) Okay maybe I won't but it's that offensive to me.

dabbler312 01-28-2012 10:14 AM

They're probably extreme couponers and they are screaming because the sale will not require any coupons.
Thank goodness for the mute button.

I confess. I am a coupon fanatic. I get insane when my husband or son shops without coupons.
Speaking of expired coupons, etc. ~ did you know that Kohl's cash never expires?

Great package! Lots of goodies for Valentine's Day!

Lori did you ever hear from my Pal?
I hope she's ok.

That's exactly what they are saying. They used all these coupons and markdowns and that's going away, now if a sweater costs $6, they are going to mark it $7, no sales no coupons. I think they have chosen a very awful way to advetise, myself. Once is too much for that commercial!!

candi 01-28-2012 07:01 PM

I guess I don't watch enough TV as I have no clue what commercial you all are talking about. But sounds like I am lucky to be ignorant, lol.

Ok, for all of those who asked, here is the pineapple upside down cake I make in my electric skillet, I suppose you could use the same recipe in the oven or stove top even, I never tried, so venture at your own risk, and BTW, I started with a recipe and through trial and error finalized this one.

1 Yellow Cake mix
1 20-oz can sliced pineapples, drained and juice reserved.
2 eggs.
Maraschino cherries
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 Tbsp. butter

Combine the cake mix, reserved pineapple juice and eggs and beat until smooth. Sometimes, I slice a couple of pineapples and thrown them in there as well. (if I remember that is,lol)
Melt the butter and add brown sugar, stirring until dissolved. Arrange pineapple slices at the bottom of the skillet and add a cherry to the center of each pineapple ring. Pour the cake batter and make sure it is even in the skillet.
Cover and bake for 20 minutes. (I keep the cover on after I turn the skillet off for another 5-10 minutes).
Place a large plate over the skillet and carefully flip the skillet to unmold the cake, Admire your creation and dig in.

Thank you, Candi! What temperature do you set the skillet at?

I have a question for you appliquer's.......if you fuse the applique, does it have to be sewn at the edges?? This is why I hate applique, am not very good at doing the edges.

Teresa, It really depends on whether you are making a quilt or a wall hanging. If it's a wall hanging, you don't have to sew the edges. If you are going to be using it as a quilt and washing it, you really should. I haven't found a fusible that is strong enough to keep the edges from coming loose with use. Personally, I prefer the softer feel of applique without the fusible interfacing for quilts. I know it's a slower process, but you could hand stitch them down with a buttonhole stitch.
It really is up to you, after all it's your project and it's important that you enjoy the process as well as the finished product. Try a smaller block with different techniques and find the one that you like the best and then go for it. Let us know how it goes:-)

arizonagirl 01-29-2012 11:35 PM

Candi we make our pineapple upside down cake the same way but substituting the juice for the water. Then only thing that we do different is to add some crushed pineapples to the batter. I have never tried cooking it in an electric skillet.

Teresa there are many ways that you can finish the applique. I have done a blanket stitch, satin stitch, and also straight stich along the edge of the applique. If the item that you are planning to applique isn't going to get a lot of wear and washing then I think you would be ok to just fuse it.

I hope Airwick and Swampfox are OK, has me a bit worried that we haven't heard from them.

Lori Peercy 01-31-2012 02:09 PM

Airwick called me back and said that they are fine, but they live 43 miles from town and their car broke down. She has someone coming tomorrow to take her to town. They have received their packages before the car broke down.

Off the bench, ( my error, I've been off of it! :o ).......................Thank you so much, Shawnna, for the darling pincushion on the golf tee and the batik fat quarters. I'll use them soon in a project I have planned.

thomp116 02-01-2012 02:31 PM

Still on the bench, but getting lots done. OK, not 'lots,' but I need a total of 556 HST for two projects I am working on, and am almost to the home stretch!

thomp116 02-01-2012 08:17 PM

Not really quick piecing the little buggers. I can't seem to master the Easy-Angle (is that the name?) ruler, so I draw my lines on the back to sew. And I always make the square a little bigger in case of operator error!
My one project is the Bonnie Hunter 'Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll" scrap quilt. The other is something I've been playing with that has been wandering around in my head.

Very true, Mary. The fabric also has other craft supplies on it, so I am keeping a piece of it for my All About Me quilt.

Quilty-Louise 02-03-2012 02:57 PM

HAHA good thing you live so far away from me :o
because that means that my "sewing/quilting" themed
fabrics are safe.
