Jane, I agree with you for the most part about the rest of the world were more like quilters, but I'm still stinging from a moment with the Chief of Quilt Police last night. She told I wasn't a true quilter or artist because my quilts did not contain a coordinating mixture of large print, medium print and various colors and hues combine into an organized design. I asked about the quality and value of Gee's Bend Quilters. Her nose went in the air and she turned and started talking to another person treating me as if I was not there ..... for the rest of the evening. She made sure I was also snubbed by others. Me being me did not walk away and acted as if I enjoyed the gathering. But today it stings and I will give none of those involved the time of day (or support for any of their activities) for a long, long time.

Dump the guild and tell they why if you are asked, Lstew2212! That was totally RUDE! I go to a local Quilting Bee every Wednesday...I am a new member and most of the ladies have been going for more than 30 years. The lady that started it is still at its helm. First day I went she welcomed me and told me there is no gossip there..just a group of women that enjoy quilting. That was fine with me because I feel the same way. I have learned something every time I go..there are master quilters there, quilting teachers and some of us that are just loving what we do. It is such fun and I simply can't wait for Wednesday to come around! Quilting Police are not welcome. I was sort of scared to show them some of my work but they were all so appreciative...it really feels good to go there...just very warm and comforting..
I love 30's quilts and am looking forward to the '30's exchange...Darlene Zimmerman has a new line of repo fabrics at my LQS!!! |

Createfourpaws and Elisabrat~you two could swap something else with each other if you don't want to do 30's repros....let me know...
Elisabrat and I have already been in contact and are planning on doing just that. I am open to having a second partner if someone else wants to swap with me. Just send me a PM and we can make it happen. |

I'm sorry you had such a negative encounter. She clearly is a control freak and snob. I wonder what she would say about Picasso or some other artist who didn't 'follow' her formula. Too bad she is so limited in her creativity. I take it this happened at a guild meeting?? How about there be a meeting on artistic quilts? or scrappy quilts??? - - - Jane

Ladies, Your opinion please, I have Aunt Gracie fabric for the 30's....is that ok?
|
sounds good to me!!
|
MaryMo how rude of her! Who made her judge and jury? To me each quilt is a piece of art because someone put a lot of heart, time and money into it. We all don't have the same tastes and that's a good thing so there is a variety but we don't hurt someone's feelings like that. All guilds are not like this, as ours is 10 years old now. Nothing is always perfect but we have a good group of ladies who are very supportive. Sorry you had to go through this.
|
I can trade the 30's or anything else someone wants if it's okay with our hostess, but I don't want 30's back. I have some but I never use them.

Oh these beautiful FQs from queenof2802 are wonderful .....
She msut have known I like stars ... even the white is starry fabric. I'm using these in an Independence Day/July wall hanging for sure. Thank you queenof 2802! |
I was thinking and there was a player here who was posting all the monthly blocks she was making with her new fabrics has there been a posting that I missed? I loved the blocks that were put together and the creativity that went into using ALL the new fabrics in one block. Where did she go???
I was just in the boom swap and they need more players! This would be a fun way to use up some of your new fabrics and meet more people here! The groups are either 16 or 35 so you dont have to go big and you could even sign up for A) a slow small group 4 months to do 16 blocks or B) a fast slow group that finishes in 8 weeks! or a large group and get oodles of blocks done and even better receive oodles of blocks BACK! check it out!! I am very happy I can play this month on the side with Createfourpaws. We are both going to make surprise packages of 5 fat quarters .. Hopefully the following month I will be in here with both feet and lots of fat quarters. |
oh dear posting at 1:30 in the morning is maybe not a grand idea I mean option B) FAST group not fast slow group.. groan.. back to bed I should go.
|
Thanks all for showing me what 30's fabric is. I am in. Now the challenge of hunting for fabric.
|
I have also added MScupid804 to my playing on the side for the suprise package of 5 fat quarters. And I will also be back in August with the group.

MaryMo, I would have to differ with that snoot! Your choice in fabric is AWESOME!! I love the patriotic fq's you sent me. Thank you!!
I will be in for 2 spots for July. 30s is my favorite fabric. :) |
what are you going to do with your patriotic fabrics? I want to make a runner out of my set they are so perfectly coordinated and I love the stars especially this cream fabric with stars. I would have instantly gravitated to that one if I had walked in a store. it was like my partner shopped for me and hit it on the nail completely with her selection!
|
Oh my gosh, yes!!! Send them to me!!! um. . . yes, they're ok. Jane
|
Can't wait....I love, love, love '30's fabrics and quilts!!!!
|
I love 1930's too. I already have my sets packaged ready to address. Still watching my mailbox for my RWB set. The mailman thinks I'm stalking him. ;)
|
I've ordered new 30's fabric! Don't tell my husband.....but, I needed them. Can't wait for the swap!
|
I can't wait for the July swap! I love the 30's fabrics, but don't have much in my stash. I will just have to force myself to go shopping (and get a little extra to keep). But, do I buy enough of 5 different fabrics to swap 2 sets or do I buy 10 different?????
|
aunt gracie is fine to swap for whoever asked...

I have beaucoup thirties repro fabrics....but I still haven't received my second set of patriotic fq's..... I may have missed this info on the thread but will Brenda moderate July swap as well?
....and I LOVE the way yosamitesa and lauriejo think! |
LaurieJo if you sign up for 2 sets the 5 fqs can be the same 5 different ones in each set, or you can have 10 different fabrics and send any 5 to each of your partners. If you love them all you can get 10 different 1/2 yard cuts and make fqs from them and keep one of each and then put 5 in each package.
The 5 different are so a recipient gets 5 different ones in their set, but their set can be the same 5 your 2nd partner gets too. Sometimes I have to get a yard, and make 2 fqs and still have some for me too. As it works out for me--this swap does not keep my stach at its present level, I almost always have to ger some to keep too. I'm not complaining about it either. :p:o:) And I like that I get fabrics that I might not be able to get locally or that I might not have picked out. |
Thanks to sikesjj for my second set of patriotic fq's.....there were two gorgeous reds,(a polka dot and a teensy-micro print great for my miniatures), a beautiful white tone on tone, a navy with cream stars, and a brilliant royal blue----Way to pick out fabrics, Jamie....thanks so much! (and a surprise extra fq yellow/pink/teal/purple!!!!)
|
Still waiting on my second set. My mailbox is lonely.
|
I received my 2nd set of patriotic FQ's from Linda58 plus several extra FQ's totaling 9 in all. Very generous, Linda. Thank you. ----- Jane

Oh...hmmm....if you buy 10 half yards then you would have 20 different fat quarters after the swap. That could be a turning 20!!!!!

|

This just makes me angry!! And sad...sad that people like that give other people who are in awesome guilds a bad name! We have 2 quilt shops in the town close to me...I actually had visited the first 2, and got much the same treatment you did...whether it was my own perception or what I felt like they thought I wasn't "rich" enough for them...I happened upon the 3rd shop by accident..and I love it! Our lil group that meets there is pretty small...but we always welcome anyone who wants to come in! The owner of the shop is just a dear lady...There are a few of us that she actually tells us to cut our own fabric...lol..and if there is a particular fabric we are wanting she offers to let us look for it from the places she orders, and she will order it in! So, maybe there will be a different group in your future! Don't let a couple of rude people ruin things for you! I always say that when someone is rude and belittling it is because they don't feel good about themselves and are trying to tear someone else down...but it sure is hard to be in a group of people that you feel don't want you there...like mean girls in high school... Regards, Kif |
