klgreene 03-09-2012 07:17 AM

Heard from Juanita...we are all set to go....she just hadn't been on the computer a couple of days is all.

cheryl rearick 03-13-2012 11:20 AM

klgreene 03-13-2012 04:24 PM

Well mine will be out in tomorrows mail. Figured I have so much to do and each day is going so fast, that I want to be sure Juanita gets hers since this is new for her. It'll be in tomorrows mail, and hope you like it. Won't put a picture unless Juanita wants me too.....hers reminds me of my 6" sampler blocks in the jewel colors.

Podunk Princess 03-13-2012 05:37 PM

Still working on mine for Rhonda. Fabric selected, ready to wash/starch and cut, block design selected......then I caught a cold that turned into bronchitis and haven't had the chance to take it to the next step. My block should be done and out the door sometime next week (I hope).

cheryl rearick 03-24-2012 07:38 AM

Good Morning everyone. Rhonda, I have a question. When we are making your blocks, are we allowed to change the blocks around? It will still look (some) like your block but with a few changes.....??????? I was working with mine last night and and and and and I did some changing :) :) :) if this is NOT allowed I'll make a new one. Thanks and HUGS

I hate to have you start over but I really would rather use the ones I designed. If you change them then it becomes your design.

If your partner doesn't mind I don't care if we make an exception this time. The point of doing the swap was to get people to try my cut down method. Since you did use that then the placement of the blocks is not as important.

cheryl rearick 03-24-2012 11:38 AM

LOL that little guy is standing right beside me now. He and his brothers and cousin Rachel are here for the weekend. He is such fun. He at that age where he likes to put things in things. His cup went in the Capri Sun box. Last time he was here he was putting his cup in a Pepsi box.

I don't know what happened on loading your pictures. If you click on manage attachments you can add 10 to one post

I love your colors in the one you made for Juanita. And of course you did a fantastic job. The one she made for you is really well made! I'm not a big brown fan but am learning to like the teal.

klgreene 03-28-2012 09:24 AM

While I was swapping with the teals, a couple people sent me pretty blocks in the blues and browns, so just wait until it's done, it'll be gorgeous!!!!! I don't think there's a color I don't like....

I do like brown in some color combos and teal is one that makes it stand out and look great. I had sewn for the Amish store for so long and she didn't like me to use browns and yellows and bright colors. So I guess the brown thing is a mind set. I do like some dark browns.

Another thing against the browns in my mind is because as a kid my mom dressed me in browns alot and I hated it. I don't like feeling drab. But brown is one of the colors my mom likes in clothes. I much prefered blues and greens. Still do.

Podunk Princess 03-28-2012 05:51 PM

I'm working on my block now and hope to have it out in the mail in a couple of days.

LOL Now just repeat that back to yourself and you will have my answer!! I am working on yours today. Great minds think alike! Don't stress over your quilt block. I enjoy them all. I love knowing my friends held that quilt block in her hands and I love seeing the colors used. I'm only critical of myself and noone else. So enjoy the process!!

stitchengramie 03-30-2012 12:50 PM

Cheryl I am still working on your block. I hope to have it mailed out to you next week.

cheryl rearick 03-31-2012 02:38 PM

Here's how my block looked for this month:

sgardner 04-01-2012 04:40 PM

Ok, it's not orange at all- bad pic. Two reds and two blues, looks patriotic. Think flag red for the left red.

It looks fantastic Shelley! How did you like making the Wings blocks? Did you use the paper templates or the 30 degree template? Just curious.

Podunk Princess 04-02-2012 07:20 AM

Wow, the blocks this month look great! Some day mine will be finished and mailed off too.......LOL

The first time I tried the wing block, I was such a failure, I gave up on them. This time, I paper pieced them and they went together with no trouble.

I just measured it- it is a perfect 30degree. I guestimated when I made my paper templates for my paper piecing.

Did you know I created Paper Templates for the Wings and the STar Point blocks
It isn't paper piecing it is like doing a dress pattern. Print off and cut out the patterns. In the case of Wings there are 4 pieces. Pin them to your fabric and cut the fabric to match the paper pattern. Then sew the two left ones together and two right ones together and then sew the two halves together and then cut out the square from the center. Easy

Rhonda's Wing Blocks Paper Template Tutorial
http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...l-t106744.html

This uses a size of paper template that works best for a 3 1/2" acrylic template so I redid the size of the PTs for a 2 1/2" so there wouldn't be so much left over

And I did them for the Star Point block

Yes, Rhonda, I knew that, and that was the method I tried when I first did it. But, I had a major sinus infection, my eyes were going buggy on me, and my frustration with it was way higher than it should have been. I agree, easy except when you are sick and your brain doesn't want to process any information. It shouldn't have been that hard. With the paper piecing, I knew I could follow my marked line on paper. It's not anything against you, or your method, but rather against the dumb doctor who wouldn't listen when I told him that the first antibiotic he gave me wasn't doing a darn thing for my infection.

It's finally done -- only 6 weeks late but better late than never they always say. Here's a photo of the block I made for Rhonda for the March block swap. It's going out in the mail tomorrow morning (May 8). I hope she likes it.
