Nine patch swap??

Are there any nine patch swaps currently open to new members? I recently saw this quilt made from a swap that was beautiful and would like to make one. Please let me know if there are any in the process now. Thank you.

Faintly Artistic 02-26-2018 11:15 AM

I don't think there is one currently going on, but you can check the swap page to make sure. You could always ask an admin for permission...:) And you are right, that is a cute quilt!

MaryMo 02-27-2018 09:18 AM

That would be a great idea Faintly Artistic. I'd like to share 9 patches .... just name your theme.

NZquilter 02-27-2018 02:01 PM

It would make a fun scrappy nine-patch swap, like the scrappy Hunters Star swap from a few years ago. There are so many fun layouts and setting to do with the blocks too; on point, alternating snowball blocks, single Irish chain, so many ideas!

givio 02-27-2018 08:43 PM

What a delightful idea!

I agree-- so many ways to use a 9 Patch.

obrienwv 02-27-2018 09:13 PM

I'm so happy that there is interest in a nine patch swap. Someone is checking with the administrator if hosting one is permitted. Please keep watching if one will be possible.

Here is the link to the original post where I saw the nine patch block swap - hope you like it as much as I do.

I'll be watching to see! A scrappy 9-patch quilt has been on my bucket list for a while.

Great post. I really like the size block she used of 6.5" unfinished. I could use up some of my 2.5" strips that keep multiplying!

sewbizgirl 03-01-2018 08:26 AM

I'd be interested if it was kept to 2 colors per 9 patch. Any scrappier than that will lose definition when you put them all together. So who's organizing this?

Irene C. 03-01-2018 10:57 AM

Nine patch blocks sound great, I would be interested. I like the scrappy look in the link, also two colors plus the back ground cream would make awesome blocks.

givio 03-01-2018 04:34 PM

The link has two prints per block. Is that what you mean by two colors? I agree, using two fabrics per 6" block sounds great. If the 9-patch was made with nine different fabrics, that would be a whole different idea.

In addition, in order to streamline the process of making blocks, it would be helpful to make several alike, using the strip piecing method already mentioned. That could mean, that however many people are in the swap, we could make a set of that many, so that each person in the swap could get one of the set. For example, if 10 people are in the swap, we could sew 10 identical blocks using the strip method to sew them, then keep one for ourselves, and swap the other 9 to each other. Of course, a set could have different blocks, they wouldn't have to be identical.

sewbizgirl 03-01-2018 05:01 PM

That sounds good.

Exactly what I was thinking :)

I'm interested! But would like to see scrappy (to TRY to reduce stashes) with a dark color for center block & 6 1/2" or larger....

sewbizgirl 03-02-2018 10:50 AM

It's a go! I have received the ok from PatriceJ to host the 9 patch swap. I will be writing up the intro and guidelines probably today and submit them to Patrice. Then I'll post the thread.

Glad there is so much interest. I think it's a fantastic way to use up our scrap 2.5 strips and squares.

Armylady2012 03-02-2018 10:59 AM

I am so glad that this is working out I will see if I am able to join.

Thank you for hosting the swap. I have been wanting to take part in a nine patch swap for several years and am SO anxious to start. Will be waiting for the post with all of the details.

Coming soon! :o

givio 03-02-2018 03:54 PM

Whoohoo! Spread the word, and gather your friends. Everyone can make a 9-patch easily enough!

RedGarnet222 03-02-2018 05:52 PM

Wow this is like one of the first quilts I ever made! Talk about a blast from the past! That quilt is long gone now, but it sure would be fun to make another. I will look to see if I have some interesting nice fabrics to work with. I am hoping that there is a requirement to use good fabric. I would not want to swap out for something you could see daylight through.

Definitely. No thin junk or lining type fabrics. The requirement is to send as nice as you hope to receive back. Hope you will join us, RedGarnet.

RedGarnet222 03-03-2018 09:39 AM

Aw, that is sweet sewbizgirl. Thanks for the invite. I am seriously thinking about it.

aborning 03-04-2018 07:00 AM

I am interested also in joining this 9 patch block swap. Will be watching for more details.

aborning 03-04-2018 07:02 AM

I am hoping you get the details out this week because I am going to a Quilt Retreat next Sunday for four days and it would be fun to work on this project.

Cheesehead 03-04-2018 07:15 AM

This sounds like fun, I would like to be included too!

I'll try to keep an eye on this...I want to do it, sounds like fun!!!

Sign ups are open now, ThrillSeekers! Head over here and if you are participating, be sure to bookmark or "follow" the thread. Then post! There's a lot of text to read at the start, but I wanted to get all the particulars out there, up front, where they wouldn't get lost.

I've been having a ball making some 9 patches already. Love using my scraps!

Tricky 03-04-2018 11:56 AM

nien patch

I just completed a disappearing nine patch with all Christmas fabrics that were given to me and then one with many of my left over fabrics and fat quarters. It is the most fun I have had with a quilt and so fast to make. All the best and I will be watching for the results

This is a swap of regular 9 patch blocks, not disappearing. I had a feeling people would mix up the two!

aborning 03-05-2018 12:27 PM

We need more people to join in the fun here. Nine patch blocks are so simple to make. And there is so much satisfaction in making a quilt that has been made totally from scraps. I will have to buy some yardage of white back ground though.

Don’t worry, Aborning... we already have, I think, ten sign ups and I only posted this thread yesterday! I think we will have lots of swappers.

Pretty soon I will post a list of swappers.
