That is very cute. I have that on my to do list. I love yours. I finished one set of my blocks and as soon as daughter takes a picture I will post it. Thanks for sharing!

needles3thread 02-13-2013 10:10 AM

I am an owl lover too. I really love a horned owl. Today, I will posting some owl fabric

owlvamp 02-13-2013 01:29 PM

thank you im going to go look.

Annaquilts 02-14-2013 09:26 AM

Working on designing and fusing my last set of owls. Then I have to sew them all down. It looks like all sets will be applique. I think they are turning out really cute. Sofar 4 sets of 12 1/2 in. and one set of 9 1/2 in. blocks. currently I have no working camera so I will leave you all in suspense. How many people are signed up sofar?

Annaquilts 02-14-2013 09:30 AM

Dhanke, I think that design is very cute and I especially like the colors of the potholder version. I thought about doing that design but since you are I will make another one. Variety is the spice of life I figure. what is everyone else making? It is so quiet.

owlvamp 02-14-2013 10:25 AM

I have another set of blocks cut out but I think dhanke is doing something similar. So I will see what she does and decide whether I will start a different set.
dhanke are you making the blocks like you posted?

As for how many people I believe so far we have 9. I will get the list together and how many sets each is doing over the week end. Still lots of time for anyone else who wants join. Lets get this hopping.

Here are pictures of the owl blocks for the swap. They still need to be sewn down and then trimmed down to the right size. I hope you like them.

owlvamp 02-14-2013 11:25 PM

Annaquilts they are all beautiful. There went a couple of my ideas. LOL back to the drawing board for me. I love all your blocks. Thanks for posting.

Annaquilts 02-14-2013 11:33 PM

Thank you owlvamp but please do not stop making them just because I used a similar pattern. You will use different fabrics. After all we are all doing owls. Maybe just changing the fabrics and or small changes like a belly or gogles can give an entirely different feel.

dhanke 02-15-2013 01:39 AM

I will be making a set of pieced owls similar to the one on post 22 and a set of appliqued silhouetted owls. I won't be making the ones on post 40. I agree with Annaquilts though. We could all be using the same pattern and we would still have a nice variety due to color and fabric choices.

owlvamp 02-15-2013 05:41 AM

I agree never thought about that. Okay I will Finish them up and post them. I love seeing the blocks. Keep them coming. I have all the pieces cut out for the one on post 40. I also found 2 other patterns I purchase months ago so will make some of those too.

owlvamp 02-18-2013 08:52 PM

I found a few pieces of owl fabric I forgot I had so that is good. Have a few ideas on some blocks. Need to sew the binding of two quilts and then will, finish up the owl blocks and post.

How is it going with you all?

Annaquilts 02-18-2013 11:52 PM

Half way sewing down the sets of owl. I did all aplique. I still have to square them up after that and cut fabric squares for the twist.

silhouette owls

Here's one set completed. I hope the background colors aren't too wild, but I wanted to use batiks to look like sky in the background.

Annaquilts 02-19-2013 02:04 PM

dhanke I really like the effect the batik has. the owls stand out in front of a stunning sunset. Very nice and a clever artistic interpetation.

snownannie 02-19-2013 05:01 PM

Very pretty. I would like to get one of those.

Annaquilts 02-19-2013 05:24 PM

Mhh me too!

owlvamp 02-19-2013 08:29 PM

silhouette owls are stunning. I love the background too! Did you cut the owl out by hand? I really like those.

dhanke 02-19-2013 10:47 PM

Oh good, i'm glad the batik is OK. The silhouette is cut by hand, fused and satin stitched. I made all six on sunday, so they are fairly quick and easy.

owlvamp 02-22-2013 04:32 AM

Short and Sweet how many sets are you doing?

How's it going everyone?

Annaquilts 02-22-2013 01:08 PM

I would love prison owl with his black and white stripes. Are you planning to add pupils? The snow picture cracked me up. Enjoy watching the kids play in the snow in that recliner? Brrrrrrr......Hahahahaha I bet the kids have a lot of fun playing outside.

Annaquilts 02-22-2013 01:43 PM

I have my sets done but looking at lovngrandma's owls I was thinking wouldn't some Aloha style owls be cute?

lovngrandma 02-22-2013 07:06 PM

I found one fabric and will be hunting for more. To be in the twist you do not need more thern a FQ or 1/4 yard cut. Just think of all the cute squares you'll get bacvk and the great variety. But I understand. You sure the dog would sit in that snow covered chair? I think the dog says you can have your chair back. Too funny. I just thought it was hilarious how it is standing in the middle of the snow. Eye glasses sound really cute. I still hope I get Mr. Prison out break owl. :D

owlvamp 02-22-2013 11:23 PM

I have my 3 for the twist. Mine are 4 inches though. I must of cut them for something else i was going to do and guess i didn't use them so now i will .Do you all want me to cut it down to the 3 1/2 inch block or leave and you, have a little extra to deal with? Let me know okay and will fix them if I need to.

I believe the cats and dogs are knocking on your door to come inside. They say its to chilly out there. I would be freezing. I would be an icicle and you, would have to thaw me. Burr it's cold out there.:)

owlvamp 02-24-2013 09:29 PM

Love the owl blocks.
The snow looks like a lot of fun and cold. Love the snowman. My grandson made about a seven inch snowman out of snow and sense our snow stays for one day and gone the next he brought his snowman in and ask if he could save it in the freezer. LOL it's still in there. I'll get my daughter to take a picture for me to post. So I am saving his snowman in my freezer. It makes him happy therefore I am happy.

Okay ladies I love quilting but the last two day I was ready to throw in the towel. I was trying to make pin wheels but for the life of me couldn't get the points to match up. I will get my daughters phone tonight to take pictures to show you all. Okay so then I put it down and walked away. Came back and made another one and the points are better but still not totally matching. All the fabric I am using for this is all I have for it so can't afford to mess it up. I came up with a different idea for a different block sense I already cut them all into triangles. Points match pretty good but now the block is too small and I have to add a border. I don't I have anything to match. It's totally crazy let me tell you. So then decided on the other blocks to do a ten minute block and five minute block. I really like them but found them to be a little more difficult than I thought. Is quilting for me? I am trying to get out of just the block style but I don't know. I see so many beautiful quilts and I just want to make one but I guess I'm not ready. It's just when you see someone post this is my first quilt and wow they did awesome point on points. And I can barely master what I do. Okay enough of my whining. Needed to get it off my chest. I have almost 5 sets done so I will take pictures, and post for you all see. Thanks for listening.

Muse&Sew 02-28-2013 01:28 PM

So sorry you've had a bad quilt day. I'm still working on my points! What's worked the best for me is taking more time measuring each square for the blocks before I sew them. Also, make sure you use a narrow 1/4 inch seam. This allows a little extra room for when you turn the fabric. So for pin wheels blocks you use HS triangles. If your HS is the accurate size (even though you sew them together, oft-times 2 HS blocks will have a little extra room on both sides.) measure after you sew the 2 HS's together. Trim any excess. When you do the bottom 2 HS's line up your point before you sew with your fingers. It helps to grab a needle & sew it in place a couple stitches. Pins can still allow your fabric to move. If your point is in place then sew. Works most of the time for me. Other than that,
you can try Paper-piecing which allows you to get those perfect points. Either way, it takes a little bit of patience. Hope this makes sense. Good luck!

owlvamp 02-28-2013 01:34 PM

Thanks for the advice. I need to try pp but havent dont that yet.
