Use it for a purse, bag, or in a crazy quilt! I buy the oddest fabics you could imagine. I like to make bags and the material used can make a mundane bag into something very special! I bought some very silky oriental type fabric and have a bag cut out of it. Oh, the raveling I am dealing with. Of course I couldn't find my pinking sheers at the time. Some day I will finish that bag, cause it is going to be stupendous!! Depending on the quilt, you can still use that fabric. For instance, in this row robin, I would not mind at all if some different fabrics were used. For one thing, I will be using it as a wall hanging, not a bed cover so it won't be washed much, if at all. Keep that beautiful fabric, and use it!! It must have been meant for you if it used a desguise to get you to take it home. LOL

Thanks buslady. I will keep that in mind my collection is growing, maybe I'll make something really great with it once the inspiration comes.
It's weekend girls. Hope you all are doing well. Just wanted you to know I'm around if you need me.
Hello.... still haven't put anything on fabric yet, but I have two blocks designed so far. I'm working on doing "holiday kitties" -- in other words, using certain print fabrics with cat blocks. I have Halloween and Christmas, and just had one pop in for the 4th of July. So there's still valentines day, easter, New years, Thanksgiving, etc, etc.... am I being crazy or just pushing the envelope?? Don't worry, if you run out of holiday ideas! There's lots and lots of yummy fabrics out there that work without having a specific theme.... Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, batiks, homespun......
Maybe I better get back to work now. |
Just popping in. Hope to get to work on my strip next week. Company from out of town last week. Sister came and we made 6 quilts. 48x60. Complete. In 4 days. And she had never sewn before. Yea, we had a BLAST!!
Wow 6 quilts and she has never sewn! That's impressive! Sounds like you had a great time....that is awesome.
MizMelly that sounds great! Holiday cats are cute! I have been really collecting patterns for my snowman quilt. I'm just about ready to make my first block. I got my background blocks cut. I'm really ready to go. That sounds great with the holidays.
Buslady if you can make 6 quilts in a week, we won't have to worry about you! Is your row still a memorial type quilt to your Mom? Tam...Moo I just love cows and your avator is so cute! |
Yes, so far I have not changed my mind. I have lots of ideas, but have not put any of the to fabric, nor to paper. Want to write a letter about her to send with the quilt so you might be inspired by that, since you did not know her. Sometimes those are the people that can pick something out that those really close might have overlooked. I am looking forward to this, for sure. Next hurdle I have is the Annual Quilt retreat that I host. It is Nov 16-18. After that all I have are the holidays to worry about. Lets keep the chatting up, this is fun.
Hi girls, we are getting closer and closer to our mailout date. When you mail out, please pm me. They will be asking me where our rows are. Can each of you pm me your topic for your rows when you can? I need to know that too. Only 22 days til we are to mailout. Boy this time has gone fast!
We aren't a very chatty group. I hope that once we get going that changes! LOL I have one more hurdle, my quilt retreat, then things will settle down. That is next weekend. I am excited. Second annual and I want it to be as good as the first. Plan to take care of UFO's at the retreat, even though this row is still just in my head, it is on the top of the list for UFO finishing. Still going with the memory quilt. Talk later. Onalee

I'm on track, I have a commission that is going to the machine quilter tomorrow morning, and I have nothing else on the horizon for my holiday weekend, so I'm going to hit the sewing room and start on blocks!! Mine is kitties, any style, any design, using fun and funky and holiday fabrics on a neutral background (the neutral backgrounds can also be any color). I'm looking for crazy and wild!! As I get blocks done, I'll post some pics. I'm hoping I get all 5 done this weekend, so I'll be ready to mail before the deadline!
Wow the mailing date is coming up soon. Please clarify for me...once we receive the first row, we make a row to go with it. Are we going to sew the rows together or leave them separate? What are your thoughts on labels...I have not been in a row robin before.
Tam...Moo correct me if I am wrong, but I believe we all decided to leave the rows separate and just baste together, we don't add any borders or sashing. As far as labels, make whatever kind you wish and the other girls will sign your label when they work on your row. Am I right girls? I don't think any of us has been in a row robin before so we are all learning as we go. Feel free to chime in everyone.
Almost forgot... yes, when you receive the other person's row you will make another row for them.
I am posting a recap of what we had decided on for this robin:
Copied from previous posting: I am going to go with the compilation of what I think we want for our group. 1. Do not mail out a finished row until 1 to 2 weeks early. This creates pressure on the other members who may not be finished on the row they are working on. 2. Mail a letter with your row, the first one we work on and be detailed. Tell us what you want in your row and be specific as you can be because we can't read each other's minds. 3. You may show pictures of what you have completed and we must also be tactful if we don't like what we see. Your letter should prevent that from happening so I think this is a mute issue. 4. Ask lots of questions about the other person's row you are working on. You can't make a good block if you don't know what to make. Please let me know if this meets your feelings. If not we can revise this. I don't write in stone, so chime in girls. Round Robin Hugs, Charlottemarie |
Sounds good to me! I think we also decided that if we wanted sashing, we could, but didn't have to include it in the mailing of your initial block.
That is correct buslady, thanks.
I have my five blocks almost finished! Still have to do some applique stitching on them!! I'll take pics tomorrow.
Wow, MizMelly, can't wait to see them! I have only go one block done. I will go ahead and post it.

I love your kitties! That is a wonderful theme for you to do!! I just got a catalog with a lot of snowpeople and I am going to use some of them in my blocks. It's just a magazine that sells all kinds of stuff. (Collections)
I already have one or two snowmen in mind for yours, Charlottemarie! One of them is an Arizona snowman! I won't say more, want it to be a surprise when you see the finished block!

Mizmelly, can you pm me your address? Thanks
Just a heads up, the blocks have to be mailed by Saturday. Are we all ready?
Charlottemarie,
Can you pm me your address? Mine should be ready to mail out Friday, I'm working on the last block and the label. |
I need to get mine in the mail tomorrow. I was all done except for the label and the note. Then my printer at home died, and I kept forgetting to write something up at work so I could print on the work printer. So, I'll get my head in the right place, do that today, then get my package in the mail tomorrow. I also did not make a fancy label, I'll send something along for everyone to sign, and then create a fancy border for it when I get it back. That works for me, I would rather just send a piece of fabric that's a "future label" and I can do the appropriate piecing later.
ok will do.

Ready, Set, Go....buslady - my row is on its way to you as on Monday. Here's a quick peek. I am looking forward to seeing the great additions to my row.
WOW!! great row!! Mine is ALMOST ready to go. And I still have to think about the label and write my letter......... And this dang 'working" thing just really sucks!! I'd rather be home sewing. LOL I will get some pictures, hopefully tonight and post some "peeks". Last weekend I decided to take pics and battery dead in my "to go" camera; of course I didn't have any spares. And then I realized that my good/big camera is missing. Lost in the move. Hopefully I will come accross it soon. I figure it is hiding out with the foot pedal and power cord to my Janome sewing machine. Aaaaaaa... The thrill of the move! LOL Will mail by this weekend, with any luck!!!
Ok, guess I lied. I was going to have everything ready to mail today, but gee, went grocery shopping on the way home from work, and then after dinner and feeding the cats, I did "cyber monday" shopping (a day late). And forgot all about it. DUH. Ok, I'm making a note to myself. TOMORROW I will have my blocks in the mail!! Really. For sure.
Hey, that sounds like one of my tricks. LOL
