DustysMomma 01-16-2013 08:24 PM

Welcome Robinlee & Atpegsquiltstudio! I got you both on the list and now we are 10.

I have a mug rug to work on too! I got my partner for that swap today. It's going to have to wait until next weekend though.

SandyinZ4 01-16-2013 09:11 PM

Well, gee whiz...I know I can make something if I have all of Feb. to work on it. Sign me up, too. I like anything with cats, kittens, flowers or bright colors. I learn so much on this site so perhaps this is a way to pay back a little.

Elisabrat 01-16-2013 11:12 PM

I love knowing you did a good job and someone appreciates it. Quilters really know how long it takes to make something and I find are so gracious and wonderful when they receive an item. This is the grand kuddo I get. Gettng something from someone who took time out of their busy day for you.. how incredibly great is that?

Sign up people this is truly fun. Oodles of time to work on your item(s) and lovely chatter with others. Ok, we need someone to do a happy dance I sure hope Yosemitesa can come on over and dance for us. she was a cheerleader and is grand at standing on a desk and doing a jig when needed. If she cant anyone here good at desk dancing? I will sing! oh crud they are running wait wait! we have a good singer here honest! (fingers behind back) .. signup and I will find one just mention your here for the song. deal?

Elisabrat 01-16-2013 11:16 PM

nancia 01-17-2013 12:38 AM

okey dokey, i'm in! let's see..... my colors are kind of different, but if you think irises and pansies, then not so much:). pollen yellow, chocolate raspberry and touches of lime green. and to add a little spice, i have a zebra chair and a leopard chair. my kitchen is a soft tuscan orange. family room is cappucino. bedroom--deep moss green, bathroom silvery gray and soft green. i'm so open it's ridiculous! there are wild animal mugs in the kitchen because dh got tired of roosters:D. i do have a 2' tall flamingo nightlite in my family room, and a frog butler end table. yeh, i know, not your average color scheme, but it works for us! i'm down to 2 dogs and 2 cats, and when i say 'down to' it's meaning really cut back the number of animals. dog beds would be fun--cocker spaniel size, altho' they are fond of dragging blankets to the floor to make a nest. each cat weighs 10lbs. but they are big snugglers and like to sleep with me. i say me because they all pile onto my side of the bed. dh sleeps fine, and i can hardly move! i feel so loved!

DustysMomma 01-17-2013 04:58 AM

Elisabrat, I sing, but no dancing for me please! I wiggle my butt and my guys say "whoa now, don't hurt anything!" (It's a joke!) I sang competitively in high school, and for both my son and myself, I can honestly say that music is like oxygen, we'd both die without it. For me, the music I choose in the moment is an expression of my mood, and how I sing along (which I almost can't help doing if I know the song) is an expression of my soul. My son plays drums and guitar, and my boyfriend plays drums (there's an electronic drum kit at the foot of our king size bed...romantic, huh?)

One of my projects in waiting is a tote bag for a friend who is a music teacher. She's a sweet lady I used to work with (we were the red head twins) who teaches vocals and piano for a living, and used to sing and act on Broadway. I think another of my musical friends needs a case for the Kindle Fire he uses for teaching guitar lessons. Maybe I'll make it like the guitar mug rug in my photos, since he's also my son's teacher. So many projects I want to do!

jaba 01-17-2013 09:20 AM

Okay read all the stuff and sent my info, so I hope you don't mind if I join you. What's 1 more swap to do right? Can only hope I know how to make what you want or I'll have to "wing" it and pray. Not going to bore you with my colors or rooms but did a lengthy explanation on the info sheet, so whoever gets my name will have a couple or more choices , think I made it pretty easy. Will say it's kitchen or laundry room, green and black or gray or purple and chocolate. A little clue :)

dabbler312 01-17-2013 09:21 AM

I just sent my information in and decided if I practice my time management skills I will be able to finish something special for my partner.

sikesjj 01-17-2013 06:07 PM

My husband is from Jacksonville and is a University of Miami fan.

DustysMomma 01-18-2013 10:14 PM

Woohoo! Shake it Elisabrat!

I'm sorry I've been a little absent last night and tonight. My boyfriend had a potential hire and his wife visiting, so we had to take them to dinner both nights. Since we got home tonight, I've been sewing! Trying to finish this playmat. Tried to FMQ it on my ancient Kenmore machine and it kept pulling the top-thread down & making loops on the underside. I finally said to heck with it and I'm putting diagonal lines across it 6-1/2" apart in both directions to make a diamond pattern. It's not what I wanted to do, but at this point, it's gotta do. I want to have time to wash it twice if I need to for the quilting lines I did with the disappearing pen to come out.

I'm going to Montgomery, AL with a friend tomorrow. Why does that matter, you ask? There's a quilt shop there that's going out of business. They sent my friend a postcard so she can get first dibs on going out of business prices, and she can bring a friend! I've never been to that store before, so it'll be even more sad to see it go.

Elisabrat 01-18-2013 10:39 PM

I think they hide all the good fabrics at those sales. I wonder ok you had a ton of premium fabrics and here is this secret sale come to me! and its the left overs. I bet they sell the first pics to other little shops or take them for internet sales. ok stole that joy huh? show us how wrong I am tomorrow.

I think you get out too much dustysmom. dinner out? again? oh boy sucks to be you. AND now your going out, with a friend, shopping. yes it is a tough row you hoe there lady. wowsa. I hope I get a nice easy room sorry ladies and gentlemen I am good at nice flat things. best other thing I can sew is an apron. whooo whoo. she can make an apron now who is getting all fancy stitchin? lol must be me. with the chicken fabric. swap sign ups end Monday. well then I will know just what I got myself into. talk about stretching yourself right? this is a good place to do it and oh oh the best part is there is time to figure out what you didnt know before. this is ok. if I can sew a doll with a dress from a pattern I can probably sew other things too. do I see guinea pigs? sorry everyone . its a LARGE learning curve for me.

DustysMomma 01-19-2013 05:41 AM

Elisabrat, oh my, don't tell me that! I need other things though, if the markdown is right.

I don't usually get out this much. The couple we usually go out to eat with on the weekends, is really the only people we ever do anything with. The other couple being here was not a regular thing. My boyfriend REALLY wants to hire this guy. He's probably only got maybe 10 years until he retires, but he's taught every class there is in their department, and he trusts him to teach his classes at least close to the way he's taught them for the last 9 years, because they have much the same approach to them. Most of the time, I don't have to go with him when he has to take someone out to dinner, but since the guy brought his wife, I was invited as well, to help sell her on living here. I also don't get out to go shopping much either, so today will be a treat whether I buy anything or not! I've never been a big shopper, and the last year since I started having trouble with the heel spur they finally removed in August, it's been hard to enjoy shopping, even for fabrics. I was in a boot for 7 months and the muscles in the bottom of my foot atrophied, so I've just in the last couple months gotten enough use back to enjoy a trip to Joann's.

I was told yesterday that apparently we have to go to some formal thing at the Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame next month. I had 2 thoughts on this. My first was "Blah, I have to go be formal AND stuffy?" (most of the people at these things look like they haven't cracked a smile in a decade), but then I remembered I have a new dress I haven't worn yet and I got a little excited! It was $130 dress and I got it for $30 plus the $20-30 it cost me to have it altered. Now I need shoes though, and I HATE shoe shopping. My mother got that gene, and didn't pass it on to me.

DustysMomma 01-19-2013 06:49 AM

Counting me, we're at 16 this morning. Get the word out! Sign-ups are almost over!

SandyinZ4 01-19-2013 09:27 AM

I have several of my UFO's that will hopefully work for this swap lined up and ready to get finished so someone might be getting either a table runner, Christmas wall hanging or south-western placemats.Does that sound interesting???

elainelquilt 01-19-2013 01:14 PM

Just so we all know whats what.. elaine gets ALL THE CHICKEN FABRIC!!! big chickens, little chickens, red chickens, blue chickens, chickens with feathers, chickens without feathers.. you get the drift, right? (LOL)

sewnsewer2 01-19-2013 02:24 PM

Well, I could always use pot holders, who can't? :D

elainelquilt 01-19-2013 07:02 PM

ok ya'll know i'm kidding, right?

DustysMomma 01-19-2013 07:11 PM

I was just reading this, about the chickens and the potholders, and I was thinking how, if the chickens in the oven, see the chickens on the potholders coming, there might be a revolt....

Yes, I'm feeling a bit silly this evening!

We went to Montgomery, and apparently they closed 15 minutes before we got there, so we had to settle for a stop at Hancock & Joann's instead. Hmm, still spent too much money...

Elisabrat 01-19-2013 11:06 PM

i cooked dinner for guests. tried to start prep so was chopping onions, on phone, cooking in frying pan look at clock knife slips big giant bandaged pinkie.. frig. so lesson don t multi tsk with big old knifes at work. i am over 50. really? i didnt know this? kick myself dont need help. typing not so easy. so i am here but maybe silent. sorry guys better be sewing tomorrow. no time to lose.

DustysMomma 01-20-2013 05:45 AM

Oh no Elisabrat! I hope it wasn't too deep and it heals fast. I hate when I cut or burn myself. I think the last time I hurt myself cooking was right after I got my Pampered Chef pizza stone, which comes with a metal rack. We keep them in the oven, since we hardly have any storage in our kitchen, so I'd cooked something on it (I think I was warming a baguette) & taken it out of the oven, cleared the food off and was going to put it back. I don't know why my brain didn't register that it was still going to be hot, but I grabbed it with both hands. I let it go quick, but I ended up with a little line of burn on 8 of my fingers. I call those my numpty moments!

That's about an hour drive to Montgomery isn't it? I lived in Montgomery & Tallassee a long time ago.

DustysMomma 01-20-2013 08:04 AM

Sewnsewer2, it's about 45 minutes, about the same as from us to Columbus, GA. I just don't go that way often because I know my way around Columbus much better than I do Montgomery. I lived in Phenix City for 16 years before I moved to Auburn 6 years ago.

Elisabrat 01-20-2013 08:07 PM

my life is a numpty moment lol. its fine. goiing to glue it tomorrow which should help. at least it wont catch on things. is this five o'clock eastern closing time or midnight? have you posted the end hour? food for thought. we are excited. not a one of us. at all. especially me. found out sewing is better than typing with missing digits. so SEW ready set go

DustysMomma 01-20-2013 09:17 PM

I will probably send out partners out Tuesday after I get home from work, so if someone slides in sideways and jumps in the pot before then, I'll let them in. We're not such a big group that I can't do that.

As of now, we have 16 participants. We have bedroom, dining room, kitchen, living room, and a few brave souls who said "any". So far, we haven't had any entrants from outside the US. If anyone wants to change their entries, get them in fast!

Go bug everyone you know and remind them entry is about to close! :)

kiwiquilter65 01-20-2013 10:47 PM

Well I couldn't let you have a swap without an international person, so here I am. I am Sharon from Christchurch, New Zealand. I am a relatively new patchworker and totally rooky quilter but have sewn for years. I am currently doing my first exchange on the mug rug swap.... with someone who is also participating in this swap:o)
I would love a surprise in the post so am happy to recieve anything. My dining room and lounge decor are earthy type colours but I love shabby chic too and the use of linen in patchwork.
I am a SAHM with kids aged 14,13 and 10. I volunteer at our local St Vinnies thrift shop and love it when we get fabric and buttons and things donated, invariably I come home with more craft stuff and less money after doing a shift.
Hopefully I am not too late to join this swap. Its the 21st of Jan here so knowing that I am ahead of you in time here I should be ok

DustysMomma 01-21-2013 04:58 AM

Welcome Kiwiquilter65! I'm so happy to meet so many new faces in this swap! I'm also participating in the mug rug swap, but have no idea who got me, lol. Your home sounds like ours (black, chrome, glass, and earthy colors) but I've slowly been bringing in more color as I change things. Luckily he likes it, so it's OK. :D

sikesjj 01-21-2013 08:00 PM

Yea a international person! Welcome and I am new to quilting g also, and doing the mug swap also. I had a mug rug made but I decided to make a different one so I am still working on mine.

DustysMomma 01-22-2013 05:00 AM

OK, today's the day! Did everyone get in who wanted in? I know it's "irregular", but if you folks know someone who is on the fence, they have until 5pm central time to get their info to me & I'll still put them on the list.

As of now, we're at 17, a nice odd number. I was hoping for 20, but we can still have a good time!

OK, now a few reminders, as required by Miss PatriceJ:

I am required to insist that participants send me a monthly PM to verify that they are still active in this swap and are working on their promised project.

I am required to insist that participants notify me as soon as they have finished their quilt and are ready to mail it.

Once I have received notice that both partners are done and ready to mail, I will send both a PM to let them know it’s time to mail.

I am required to insist that all participants send me verification of shipment, to include tracking information.

So, as much as we all love being able to get these in the mail when they're finished, looks like we've been asked to hang on to them until we get the  to ship or ship at your own risk, knowing your return item isn't completed yet. (I'm guessing this was added to our swap because of the number of late or unshipped items from previous swaps.)

For now....I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go!

Elisabrat 01-22-2013 05:26 AM

Oh wow you are getting put to work dustysmom! sheesh hope you find you dont need to do all that policing and everyone plays nicely and does what they say they will do. I had this vision tht the group leaders know who are the culprits in that not shipping and wouldnt allow those to play. I mean if it happens once, sure if it happens twice ok what is the excuse this time but three times and your banned until you have completed all your obligtions.

me I will be tapping fingers done and ready to mail. lol. and welcome KIWI have we got some quilters here ready and willling to play with a kiwi. ok you got me howeverr at sah something or another.. can you put that in regular speak for me. I am a behind the timer. what the heck is that and is it painful? for those of you who put anything maybe one or two ideas would be sorta helpful. you might end up with a beaded coin bowl for your dresser in rainbow colors if your not a bit more specific. where are those beads anyways! and 17 ok who is doing two?

elainelquilt 01-22-2013 07:15 AM

when will you post our partner? I am sooo! filled with ideas.. ready to get started!

dabbler312 01-22-2013 07:15 AM

Checking in and looking to see who my partner is and wondering what creative thing they are looking for.

DustysMomma 01-22-2013 10:39 AM

Dabbler, I'll email everyone after work this afternoon....in about 5 hrs.

dabbler312 01-22-2013 11:47 AM

I can wait - have a gazillion other things to do first; this will be a fun swap - let the creativity begin.

DustysMomma 01-22-2013 03:38 PM

OK, keep an eye on your mailbox.....the notifications will now begin!
