I can't wait to do this again - I had so much fun last year! My quilt guild has its first meeting of the year tonight, and we are having a garage sale, so I'll be picking up all sorts goodies for my Secret Santa recipient!

Jan Rutherford 09-01-2014 12:38 PM

I haven't done the SS in a few years. To many things of life have gotten in the way.... finances is the biggest issues. HOWEVER.... This year I am in!! gotta have fun and we all make such cool things to share. Was at OUR local joanns yesterday, and They already have a row of CHRISTMAS Stuff out....summer isn't even over....just to soon for that!!!

b.zang 09-01-2014 03:42 PM

Thank you so much, Terry, for doing this!!! I've been away for a while but it looks like I'm back just in time.
Now to watch for the sign-up spot.

MizMelly 09-02-2014 07:27 AM

Count me in too! I read every post of last year's thread and was sad that I missed the sign-up! I have goodies already and more to collect!

cuppy 09-02-2014 02:52 PM

Count me in!

Looking forward to my second year of this. SO MUCH FUN!!!!

sewbizgirl 09-03-2014 06:00 PM

So when/where is the signup?

Dedemac 09-03-2014 06:43 PM

I had fun last year stalking my SS, I have the chocolate and Wine. Not sure if I want to be in the hole or just on the edge looking in.

tlrnhi 09-03-2014 07:39 PM

I'll be having signups in about a week. Stay tuned!

CookyIN 09-04-2014 01:14 AM

Can't wait! Had a blast last year. I've been hitting the sales all year and can't wait to find out who my Santee is and figure out what should go in his or her package. The toughest part is waiting between signing up and discovering who you're gifting to so the fun can start!

Carrie Lee Designs 09-04-2014 10:53 AM

Please sign me up as well. I was on here a few years ago then life interrupted. I am back and going strong.

I'm busy pondering :)

ArizonaKAT 09-04-2014 12:18 PM

That doesn't mean we're going to hand out in a pond instead of the hole this year, does it?

now that would be a great idea.
middle of winter and sunshine
while we play in the pond
with our drinks in hand on a float.

But I live on the other side of the pond! *pouts*

I'm going to wait to do my shopping until after I get signed up and have someone to shop for. It's easier for me if I have a roadmap.

You'll get your person's name/addy and such. There will also be a list of "wants/likes" along with it. The basic rule is....4 fat quarters and a gift not to exceed $20. Now, does that mean you have to buy one thing for $20? Nope! You can buy numerous things to equal that amount. Most people will shop, shop, shop now since some things could be on sale. I've seen packages that look as if the person spent tons of money, but in fact, since some shop all year for this swap, they get awesome deals and can pack a package with tons for the $20. Can you go over that amount? Sure you can. Some will, some can't...it's all ok. This is to be fun and not a popularity contest as to who can send the best package.
I've been doing this swap for years and there's always a learning curve to it every year. We have a ton of fun while waiting for names and then again waiting for packages. It's all in good fun.
Ask as many questions as you like. If I don't get to answer your question, someone will. You can private message me also if you'd like.

I would LOVE to join you in this!!
It sounds so fun!

sew_busy 09-04-2014 04:37 PM

Please include me as well!! I want to play!! Sounds very fun!!

tlrnhi 09-04-2014 08:25 PM

Anyone can join. I just ask that everyone respect everyone else.
This is to be lots of fun!
I was at Joann's today and noticed that their thread was on sale for 40% off.
That's a pretty good price! It included ALL the thread they sell.
So, you could probably pick up a couple spools from there.
Find some pretty fabric that's on sale. Grab a yard of that.
Then wait for your person to be assigned and see what they like.

Things to start collecting now that everyone needs....
seam rippers.
thread. (I will usually get a couple spools of Gutterman or good thread on sale)
yard of pretty fabric on sale
patterns on sale (this can include the freebies you see hanging on shelves--not all stores carry the same ones)
cute buttons
tweezers---for picking out threads from ripping those dang seams
pins
machine needles
hand sewing needles
small scissors

That's just off the top of my head.

You can go thru the pictures of last years and they can give you some ideas.
If you see something that you would like and it's a good price, get it because you know it's not going to be there if you go back after it.

sewbizgirl 09-04-2014 09:23 PM

Also, how about candy, teas or coffees, card games, and maybe gently used fiction books you think someone else might enjoy? Just some fun stuff besides the quilting gifts.

Bilben 09-05-2014 01:04 AM

Also, one of my favourites, second-hand quilting magazines or quilting books. (hint, hint)

If someone is wanting to send magazines, make sure they are gently used and all pages are intact. There have been some recipients that have received used magazines that didn't contain all the pages and/or parts of pages were missing, especially the ones that have the insert patterns

sunrise450 09-05-2014 05:37 AM

Oh! This is going to be such a fun swap! I have been shopping. Also planning what items I want to make. Mug rugs? pot holders? pin cushions? How about Sulu's crafty projects? The list goes on...............

ArizonaKAT 09-05-2014 06:47 AM

We're like little kids on a sugar rush. We aren't going to stop till we get to open our package.

buddy'smom 09-05-2014 09:05 AM

Oh I think I'm in as well, I have tons of used almost new magazines. I purchased a few awesome items today.

Vitality 09-05-2014 10:12 PM

I would like to join in if that's okay :) I will start getting ideas for a special thing to make and start window shopping!!! Don't want to go too crazy before I find out my persons wants/tastes! This will be fun. But also I have only been sewing/quilting about a year so anything I make may not be perfect!!

juneayerza 09-05-2014 10:13 PM

Count me in. Sound fun!
