September 2019 Pincushion Swap
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to the September 2019 Pincushion Swap. Sorry for the late posting again but we were waiting for one pincushion from the last swap to be acknowledged as it's recipient was galavanting around Europe (you know who you are - Marion - LOL LOL). You must be signed up by the 30[SUP]th[/SUP]September 2019 as partners names will be sent out between 1st and 2nd October 2019. You must have mailed by the 8th October 2019. This is a hard and fast deadline - no excuses. You must also please let me know when you mail and when you receive... this is so I can make sure that everybody receives a pincushion. This is a personal choice swap so you can make any type of pincushion that you would like to. Before signing up, please read the rules below: Rules As with all swaps there must be rules so here are ours! 1. This is a secret swap. 2. This is not a partnered swap so you may not receive from the person you send to. 3. Everybody on the board is welcome to take part. 4. This will be a bi-monthly swap (6 in a year) – you only take part in the months that you sign up for. 5. If you commit to taking part you must send out a pincushion… no excuses! 6. If you encounter a problem or issue, you must let me know immediately; there is nothing that cannot be sorted and re-organised if you communicate. 7. You are only committed to send a pincushion…. You may, if you wish send other items, but please do not expect to receive anything more than a pincushion. 8. Be kind to the person you receive from… we are all at different levels of experience on this board and we need to encourage each other… so if you receive an item from a less experienced stitcher - just appreciate the time and love that has been put into making it. 9. You must mail your item by the deadline above... no excuses. 10. The main rule is to have fun making and receiving some lovely creations. Sign-ups will start now and close on the 30[SUP]th[/SUP]September 2019 for this round. When signing up, please let me know if you have a nut allergy as some people fill their pincushions with walnut shells. So come on, join in and have some fun! Hugs Caroline |

Hello Everyone,
I am so sorry that I have been MIA for the last few weeks...... but things have been a little manic here. Joe, by sweetie was rushed into hospital a couple of weeks ago and of course he became my priority.... happily is is home now and whilst not totally recovered (he decided to come out in shingles too) he is on the mend. We have at the same time had a cat that hasn't eaten for 12 days - 7 visits to the vet and £800 later - all they can come up with is a suspected UTI and a lesion in his mouth. We have now had to have his urine cultured in the lab and will get the results on Tuesday. But the worst of all is today... my baby went off to university. Now... this has been the saddest, happiest, proudest moment of my life all rolled into one. Emma worked so hard to be accepted in Imperial College London to study Chemical Engineering... and I am so proud of her, but I miss her so much already and it has only been four hours since we left her. Of course, we have had to prepare and shop for uni whilst everything else was going on.... so as you can imaging... a busy time. Still enough moaning from me... on to the swap. At present we have the following members taking part..... M-Fay Aurora Nonnie4 michelle-quilts Cuppy Carolinepaj But there is still room for more and you have a couple of days to sign up still. Hugs Caroline |
I felt the same when my daughter went to university but I wanted you to know that it ended up as a wonderful experience. We watched her blossom from the girl we dropped off into a capable and wonderful woman. She met friends from all over the world and it has been so fun to watch her find her way in life.

Hi Everyone,
So sorry for the delay, but you should have your names now...... as the names went out a little late the new mailing deadline is 7th October 2019. Please remember that this is a secret swap so the only way we know who we are receiving from is if you pop a note in with your pincushion....! If you think you should have received a name and haven't please get in touch asap.... I am only human and I do make mistakes (a lot - LOL LOL). Okay everyone, let the fun begin. Hugs Caroline |

I picked my package from m-fay yesterday. It was a tree stump with embroidered bark and the cutest little blue bird of happiness sitting on top of the stump. There are flowers and mushrooms growing at the base of the stump. There fat quarters also. Thanks m-fay, I love it. I have quite an assortment of pincushions from swaps over the years.
|
Oh Aurora, that sounds lovely! I hope m-fay took a picture that she can post. I actually remembered to do that this time. Usually I am in a rush to get it in the mail.

I received the cutest little friend from a far away land today. Thank you Caroline! I love it! Is it felt or wool? Is it all sewn by hand? I would love to learn this technique. I love the one made by m-Fay too. I wish you ladies could give me lessons. The one I made seems so simple in comparison. You inspire me to learn new things. What a fun swap! Nonnie4,
Do my eyes deceive me, is that a mouse sitting on your pumpkin? M-fay where do you find all these ideas for pincushions? They are just too awesome! |

I am so glad you like him. Most of it is sewn by hand except sewing the pumpkin together, that I do on the machine to give it strength. It is made from 100% wool. I have recently discovered wool appliqué and love working with it.... it is even hand dyed by me.... I really enjoy all the processes. Hugs Caroline |

Hi Everyone,
A little late, but here is a picture of the beautiful pincushion I received from Michelle. Cathedral Windows is such a beautiful block and Michelle has done a wonderful interpretation of it. Michelle, thank you so much... I really do love it. Hugs Caroline |
Caroline - What would I search for to find the wool? I can find wool felt squares. And would I search for wool applique patterns for a beginner pattern to try? Last one...what do you use for stuffing? It feels heavier than polyfill.

Well, I am getting a little worried. By process of elimination, I have m-fay but when I took the parcel to the post on Oct 8 the clerk didn't seem to know what to do. She made me change from my box to a cushion envelope and then back to my box and then did not know how to affix the customs sheet. M-fay - I hope your gift is not lost at sea. :(
|
Nonnie it arrived today and I love it. It did get flatted in the post, but I will fluff it up again before taking a photo to post. It was so well packed it took me ages to get it cut open . And I love the dish cloth you knitted to and to know that you do them while travelling in your motor home. My DH and I loved life on the road too, especially taking the back roads. And the little duck.iwill treasure it always and I will take a pic of her with my other pewter treasures. Thank you so much love it all, photo tomorrow
|
Oh thank goodness! Whew! I was getting stressed. I was sure she had not known how to get it to you. I love that my little old duck has found a new home with friends :-). I love it when people add a little personal info in their profile. It makes adding something especially for them so much fun.

Thank you again Connie. Where I live we only have mail delivered 3 days a week. So delivery is always slow but it arrives eventually.

Nonnie4,
I purchase my wool felt from Colonial Crafts. P.S. I worked at my local Post Office for 5 1/2 years. International is so detailed, it has many specific requirements. The clerk probably did not want to make an error. |
M-fay - My heart swelled when I saw little duck among his new family representing NC USA and our swap group. That makes me very happy.
