[quote=Havplenty]really nice colorful blocks evie. so your psq will be "color blocked"?. were your planning on having one color themed block per row and possibly have the color-blocks in a bargello fashion? were you planning a sashing between blocks? just curious.

Thanks, Havplenty. I am doing them in color blocks, but at the moment I don't have a plan! :) I'll do that once I think I have enough blocks, although I haven't even decided on the size! As you can see, I have lots of duplicates and even triplicates. Definitely did not plan on doing this as a "charm" quilt. I'm certainly enjoying the process!

pattis47 09-18-2011 10:08 AM

Originally, I had planned to open each package and just sew them the way they were in the package into strips of 25 then join the 20 rows to make each SWAP BLOCK. I don't have a problem if there are duplicates ( It can turn into an " I Spy" of sorts - can you find any duplicate fabrics?). But, I too, am sort of a control freak and when I saw the color blocks Evie did, that idea is appealing also......now more to think about.....I also thought about doing the squares on point and using my side swaps for the squares in between to fill out for the square but that would mean doing strips of 20 not 25 so the block would be square.....more food for thought......

Anyone else have a plan that is willing to share their idea on what to do with these little lovelies?

patti i had already come to the conclusion to start sewing on my squares now. i was looking through my fabs and found a charm pack of neutrals.. who knew plus i ordered a moda charm of vanilla colored neutrals. the squares i had received so far had few of neutrals in them.

with 10,000 squares, were you planning on no repeats? i wonder what your "planned" scrappy ps quilt will look like. never thought of using neutrals for sashing. i have plenty of white muslin to do sashing with.

i was also settling my mind that i could have repeats. my quilt, my rules. i will be ordering some hawaiian prints from ebay for my quilt also. maybe i will have some to trade in the next swap. also with the side swaps, i ending up trading with 14 people, some of whom never participate in the stamp swaps so that has given me some different fabs.

as soon as i finish sorting stamp squares, i will work my psq into my regular routine. i have so many other family/friends quilts to complete first. so will sew squares in between probably as leaders/enders or upon taking breaks.

Love your blocks Evie!

At the momemt, my plan is to go scrappy with muslin sashing and put all international squares in their own block(s). I really, really, love the color blocks, but I'm afraid it would take me too long to collect stamps of certain colors.

Havplenty 09-18-2011 12:41 PM

what international squares?

Twisted Quilter 09-20-2011 08:53 AM

WooHoooooooooooooooooooo!!

All packages went out today. I have no idea why everyone in the post office line was so upset with me. Maybe because it was close to lunch time and I backed the line up to the door.

Twisted Quilter 09-20-2011 10:31 AM

OMG, I must be losing my mind! I was so excited to get the packages to the post office today that I totally forgot to look thru my stamps.

Pattis47, wish I had seen your post before I put them away. I will tell you that you won't be disappointed. You'll just have to wait patiently for yours to come in the mail.

Havplenty, my stamps aren't organized, so I don't know which envelopes the international stamps are in. When I get them organized, I'll post pics.

pattis47 09-20-2011 08:20 PM

so tell us all = HOW you're going to organize these tiny squares????

Twisted Quilter 09-21-2011 05:12 PM

Honestly, I don't have a clue! I have 6 or 7 more swaps before I have enough for a quilt, so I have plenty of time to get organized. Initially I think I'm going to separate them into light, medium, dark, & international. Who knows after that

pattis47 09-21-2011 06:42 PM

That sounds like tooooo much work.....thinking open package of 50 and start pairing them.....2 rows of 25 stitched together.....on to next package....etc. etc. etc...until the ten packs are sewn together randomly....then sash with a neutral or black and on to the next package of 10 sets of 50 for another block measuring 20 rows of 25 squares.....absolutely random.....otherwise, I know me and anal as I am I'll be 100 before I get them all sorted. I'll wind up with very light / light / light med / med / dark med / dark / very dark / misc / -----oh no---scrappy, random is sounding much better!

Evie 09-22-2011 07:18 PM

Do you mean posting on a particular thread, or in general on any thread? It must not be the latter because I have commented on several topics. I guess I'll just have to be more diligent in checking the board and not waiting for email notices. (sigh) But, thanks for the heads up.

Actually I think Missi stated at the end of the last swap that she would do another in January or February. :-(

I got my squares today! I can't wait to look through them and try to sort them out by color. I plan on trying to make a quilt like the one on page 14.

Glad I was able to help out. If Mariposa doesn't do the neutral swap, maybe we can squeeze another in November.

Why can't it be a neutral, maybe with less stamps or two of each? Or both? :)
