This swap is for all types of Sunbonnet Sue/Overall Sam blocks. The signups will close August 15th. All blocks MUST be in my hands by September 1st. I will mail all blocks back to the participants NO LATER than September 9th.

The swap is open to all levels of quilters. Please use 100 cotton fabrics that are prewashed, and that you know will not fade or fray, and that will otherwise survive many trips through the washing machine.

Please make your blocks before you sign up for this swap. The signups will close on August 15th and the blocks should be IN MY HANDS by the September 1st deadline. I am happy for you to send them early if you want to. I am not in any other swap that would mix up with these. So pm me and I will give you the address to send them as soon as you want.

Send me a pm to sign up for the swap, and let me know how many sets - UP TO 4 - that you are making.

The finished size of the Sunbonnet Sue/Overall Sam block should be 10" square finished - so with seam allowances 10.5" square. You will be sending me 10.5" unfinished blocks.

When you sign up you are committing to make at least one SET. A set consists of 6 blocks.

The limit is 4 sets (24 blocks) per swapper. You may receive one of your blocks back if we don't have enough swappers. In case we have a lot of interest and you want one of the blocks you've made, please make one for yourself.

Each set does not have to be all the same fabrics. Please use the same PATTERN (the same pose) for each set, but the fabrics are allowed to be different.

When you have completed a set of blocks, place EACH individual set into a plastic baggie with your name and board name attached to each block with a pin or post it.

Mail your block sets to me in a flat rate envelope and have a self addressed flat rate return envelope with the postage attached inside with your bagged blocks. With the flat rate envelope I won't have any problems returning them to you. I will mail them out to you by September 9th.

Your blocks should be mailed to me in a Ziploc baggie inside an envelope with your name and board name on EACH individual block (by post it, or pin or address label). You should include POSTAGE STAMPS ONLY (or cash) for a Flat Rate envelope for me to send your return blocks. (NO pre-printed labels - the PO does not accept them) International participants can pay by PayPal for postage or enclose cash.

There are many images and blocks available on the web, or make something up on your own. Embroidery works too! Lets have some fun with this! Just remember, if you are doing applique, you must sew it to the blocks in such a way that it is washable later. You can't just iron it on. Fusible is fine to use, but make sure that it's stitched down and not just ironed!

You may use some embellishments as long as they're light. Lace is fine, so are small buttons. If you want to include the buttons, BASTE them onto your block. That way, the recipient can take the buttons off if the quilt is going to go to a small child.

Please check your blocks before you send them to ensure the following:
Seam allowances should be 1/4". Blocks we swap should be constructed so that they can hold up to machine washing and drying.
Please check that there are no holes in your blocks.
Please check to make sure that the seam allowances have not frayed so much that they won't survive machine washing and drying.
Please measure carefully to ensure your blocks are a correct size.
Please remember that all appliqued blocks MUST have the pieces sewn down in some manner.

I haven't seen any other Sunbonnet Sue/Overall Sam swaps here, so this is a first! Join up and lets get going everyone!

Lets share our blocks when they are finished and talk about our blocks till the swap is done.

Does anyone recall seeing a Sunbonnet Sue pattern in which her dress was made with Dresdan plate petals? I would love to do one like that if I only had a little guidance.

I've searched for it online but haven't had much luck. Has anyone else seen what I am referring to?

I think I know the one you're talking about. I'll look, I might have it saved somewhere, or bookmarked.
