Thank you everyone for taking pictures of your ugly's and posting them. I am hoping that my son gets to come home this week. It's a very long story but he will be better in the end. It might take me a short bit to get to mine but please be patient. That quilt with the yellow is absolutely beautiful and showcased wonderfully.

Ugly Pie... So very sad..

So I tried to decide what to make with my ugly fabric. The print looks like a whole bunch of really tiny cherrys in my humble opinion. So the lil light bulb in my head remembered some paper pieced pie patterns I had tucked away. I was very pleased with the way my Pies turned out.. my problems started as I tried to find fabrics to go with my ugly fabric. After auditioning fabrics from my stash I found a yellow that didnt look too bad. I used all of the ugly fabric in the framing and as the backing for my project. I then machine quilted it I was happy with the way the machine quilting went. Then I was trying to figure out what color to use for the binding. I have most FQ's in my stash so hubby and I went to JoAnn's with the "Ugly Pie Wall Hanging" to find a suitable binding. I was thinking a light brown maybe.. My husband liked the yellow you see. I have it tacked on only at the moment.. Im not convinced. Hubby has fallen in love with this Pie project and wants to hang them in the kitchen. At this point Im just saying UGH!! So if anyone has suggestions on colors for the binding I would be greatful. I had also tried a white binding and it was UGH! As well. Help Help... Im losing the battle with this ugly fabric project :( :( :(

Just my opinion, but I think the yellow is a bit too bright. ( Sorry to your husband. ) I was wondering what it would look like with the binding made out of the pie crust fabric?

I only had those few small pieces of the pie crust fabric. I think it would of been a good match if I could of found more or a close match to it. The pieces were left over from a kit I bought. So do you think maybe a lighter brown for the binding...or the tonal lite brown I used for the background of the PP Pie??? I think I could get more of that fabric.

the print fabric is my " ugly fabric" that I received. The blue and yellow pieces are the fabric I'm adding to it to make my quilt. My daughter said the print reminded her of Tornadoes. I looked through a lot of my quilt magazines to find a pattern I liked that I thought would go with this material. In one very old issue I found a WIZARD OF OZ quilt with patterns for embroidered blocks of Dorothy,Toto,The Witch, Tinman,Scarecrow,Lion,Munchkin,Wizard, and Emerald City. I will be embroidering them on 8" blocks of the blue fabric, add sashings of the yellow brick road and frame with my "tornado" fabric. Finished size to be roughly 40 x 40 "--perfect size for baby quilt to welcome Olivia Elizabeth, my first great granddaughter due in August

Yes, I would try the background fabric if you can find it. That is one of the ones I was thinking about, I just thought the other would be a bit better, but the background might be just the one. I never know until I lay a piece of it next to the quilt.

By the way, I forgot to tell you that I really like the quilt you made. It's cute.

That sounds so beautiful. That was the ugly fabric I sent in. If you need more let me know. It was fabric that was given to me. I think I have another larger piece that is a lil less than a yard. Congrats on the future arrival of your first great granddaughter. :) :) :) :) :)

Jenniky,

Moonrise - I love what you did with my yellow calico! It looks great. I really didn't think it was ugly so much as just nothing I had seemed to work well with it. You found its perfect spot to shine.
