Do what I'm doing and just keep a box filed with the extras and you'll be totally ready for the next one! You know that Missi isn't going to give up getting squishies on a regular basis! :)

I found the boxes that my husband gets computer parts in are perfect for the blocks. They are just deep enough to turn them on their side like a filing system and they lock when you close them! He's also happy not to just throw them away!

Missi 01-05-2011 08:23 AM

Up to 42 swappers. A few people have send me PM and are ready to mail. Lets keep the limit at 20 this swap since people have already mailed and I promise we will up it next swap. Most of us are swapping 20 sets, with 42 swappers I can guarantee no duplicate sets. If we upped it top 30 I don't think I could guarantee no duplicates. Hopefully we will continue to grow as a swap group and be able to up it to 50 sets.

Another thought is - and please give me feedback. The yahoo group I belong to and I know others here do to did a neutral swap. All whites, creams, beige etc. What do you all think about this? Yesterday while sewing at my LQS a friend handed me a stack of atleast 100 scraps from 2" wide strips and that got me to thinking about this. Let me know.

Happy cutting and sorting!

KarenBarnes 01-05-2011 10:05 AM

Sounds good to me to do a neutral swap! Then we really could make something awesome! I'm up for black tones as well! Mine are ready to go, just have to wait to do the PO til tomorrow!

oksewglad 01-05-2011 11:33 AM

I like the idea of a neutral swap, but to come up with 50 neutrals from my stash might be hard to come by. I have a lot of fabric and try to take from my inventory, not go out and get fabric specific for this swap.

Well, I thought of that a few days ago but never said anything. I also do the Stash Busters 10.5 swap and was thinking more on the line for that but for this swap...it's a Great idea too!

KarenBarnes 01-05-2011 02:03 PM

Though we might not have that in our stash, we likely will have to purchase some for a project and can spare an extra 2 inches when we buy it! I'm always checking the remnant bin and there is plenty to do the swap in a rem!

sew cornie 01-05-2011 02:43 PM

I love the idea of a neutral swap although I'm not sure I have 50 neutral fabrics. Oh, what great patterns could come from neutrals and colors!

Missi 01-06-2011 09:48 AM

Well maybe a neutral set is only 25 blocks and I would have to have a completely different sign-up, etc. so hopefully we would all be able to keep them straight :)

beautress 01-07-2011 05:14 PM

Got my package in the mail the other day, Missi.

I was worried the postage was going up on packages, but the man at the post office said they're probably not going up what we're doing, unless they are sent priority mail. Then he affixed the right amount of stamps on my SASE.

:)

I'm working on another "postage stamp" quilt today that has finished 1.25" squares. I completed a long 12" row to the approximate center of the quilt. It's going to be a huge quilt when it's done. Now, I have to go back to the cutting board and cut some more 30s squares for the inner part, which I'm doing in lighthearted conversationals.

The change to 1" squares is going to be a challenge of endurance.

They might like two squares of 25 different neutrals, which would yield 50 squares, which is a substantial contribution to the postage stamp stash. Also, there are a lot of different types of neutrals--white on white, tea dyed muslin, muslin prints, antebellum beiges, warm tones, and cool grey beiges. Black and whites are considered neutrals by some fiber artists, just as are grays and browns in general. Lights, mediums, and darks--neutral covers a lot of territory. Still in all, though, a neutrals swap is a great idea if everyone is on the same page.

dream56 01-07-2011 05:36 PM

That is what I was thinking 2 of each so we can still do 50.

oksewglad 01-07-2011 05:56 PM

I have my sets all bagged up and will go out next week. I tried to get a bag of 50 neutrals--which I almost accomplished without going into my big pieces. (I usually cut from leftover 1 1/2 strips or 3" strips.) Sometimes we don't realize how many different fabrics we have! LOL

sew cornie 01-08-2011 09:03 AM

Great idea to do two squares of 25. That would be easy for many to do. I also had wondered about shading parameters.

In my collection, I think I would consider a neutral something that it more of a solid. Something to balance all of the prints. Of course, I don't know a thing about color, etc. I think my quilts turn out because I have a lot of help! :)

turtlerouge 01-08-2011 10:37 PM

Hi Missi: I've all blocks bagged and ready to mail out. Yahoooo!

I found this in wikipedia, Karen:

Neutral color scheme

A color scheme that includes only colors not found on the color wheel, called neutrals, such as beige, brown, and gray.
Most of the time when I'm quilting, I think of neutrals as beiges in lighter shades, usually. However, the lady in one of the above posts who said she'd like to see some dark neutrals in the blacks being shared was just as correct.

A solids palette of rainbow colors wouldn't be in accordance with a neutral color scheme.

Neutrals are not on the color wheel. Rainbow colors are.

Mine are all ready to mail. Just need an address (note to self: keep Missi's address).

Did requirements with this swap change? I started cutting my pieces already from the mystery quilt that is going on over under the Tutorials section.

If it has changed to neutrals I will have to back out because there is no way I can come up with that many nuetrals. I have a very small stash and usually buy for a specific project.

I think someone was asking about it. I didn't go back and look but that's what I come up with.

Nothing has changed, it was just a suggestion for a future swap! Start saving! :)

Momofthree 01-12-2011 03:15 PM

Good to hear! I am looking forward to making a postage stamp quilt, and using scraps from all over will be fun to look at and think of where they all came from.

Twisted Quilter 01-12-2011 06:40 PM

10 sets down, 10 to go!

judy_68 01-15-2011 06:28 AM

SuzanneTx 01-16-2011 10:50 AM

Mailed mine Friday. My silly little post office didn't have anything but 44 cent stamps, so I had to throw some cash in the bag. Let me know Missi if it isn't enough.

Suzanne

Suzanne

This sounds a little anal, but I have an excel speadsheet with the names, addresses, on line name and what was swapped, ie

Missi *****
123 Quilt Rd
Threadtown, IA

1.5" swap

Missi

This can be easily created. Open a blank spreadsheet. Highlight with the cursur all the information you want from your PM. Right click on mouse, click on Copy. Go to the ss, right click on mouse and Paste the information. I have subsets in the ss set aside for the doll swap partners and other QB friends I have sent things to. Save the file as online swappers.

Hope this helps someone. G

Good for you! And thanks for explaining how easy it is to set up. I've kept addresses from previous swaps, but in a far less techy way. Mine are just on notebook paper in a binder with my swap info (ie. BOM rules, IRR rules & mailing dates, etc.). I'm more of a paper and pencil kind of gal. I agree with you that it comes in very handy down the road to already have some of these addresses, especially when you know you'll want to participate in that same swap/activity again.

Missi 01-18-2011 11:59 AM

I have a spread sheet from the last swap but I can't find it. Thanks for getting my address out I have been flat on the couch with a nasty cold. I was supposed to have a vacation day on Friday and quilt all day at my LQS and felt so bad I didn't go and even stayed home on Saturday. I also didn't want to infect others. I felt bad going into the office on Thursday but I had stuff that I had to do so I just tried to stay away from everyone and use lots of antibacterial stuff on my hands all day :)

yonnikka 01-18-2011 12:18 PM

"I LOVE Swaps, but IDK if I can cut 1.5" perfectly. That's so small, it scares me..."

You can cut 3-inch Squares, Right? Think of a 3 inch square as Four 1.5 inch squares. Gather up 50 3 inch squares, prepare 4 Envelopes, and just halve and quarter them, and toss them in the Envelopes.

Momofthree 01-19-2011 05:30 PM

Good idea and quick.

Keepmelaffn 01-19-2011 10:37 PM

@Missi...I mailed my postage stamp blocks to you today...PO says delivery to you on Saturday.
Thanks for all you do! :D
