The 5th block we need to make a complete row across the back can be the "signature" block we all add our names to. I plan on sending that one along with my row. Think of it as a big quilt label. It doesn't necessarily need to be 12 1/2" square, but I want to fit it in between the 4 extra blocks. Clear as mud? I'll try to make an example of what I mean and post it later on. Let me know if y'all t hink this is too much work and I'm overdoing it. I just thought it would be fun to have unique backs.

Oh yeah, don't forget the journal.
I need to understand this..we make an extra block using scraps from each row we do..ie I would make a blk using scraps from your row, pamesue's etc...and then the 5th blk would be the signature blk..is this right?

Does the tone of brown or pink matter to you? Do you want everything light and/or muted rather than vivid? These are the kinds of questions I think we need to ask when we get ready to swap with the next person.
My shades of pinks/browns are more muted, soft...not bright. But I will enjoy whichever shades you use.

I think I will wait till I get everyones row before I start working on them. I would like to eyeball the fabrics because pictures do not ever do the object justice. Looking forward to seeing everyones blocks. I still have to do the lablels and the journal. My goal will be to mail to Nancy by feb 1.
I am going to mail my row to you pamesue on February 1st also..I still have to get the journal and not sure about signature label/blks for back...but I want to mail it off on Feb 1st...and we are off and running..:)

TF -- Still up for discussion and opinions, but here is what I thought

1. Original row w/your row attached (plus any sashing originator included)

2. Journal with picture, if possible. (Can be printed out on regular printer paper if you don't have time or access to regular photo print)

3. Extra "leftover" block for back with your screen name. Not necessarily with theme, but fabrics so you connect who did which row on front.

4. Quilt label or signature block for swap title, screen name, real name, date, location

Did I get that right? Do you all agree? If we all include a picture of us working on each row, the owner can use that to make her own collage for the back.

Comments?

That is perfect Nancy. The "extra/left over" block that we will all use on the back can be whatever you want right?? I mean 12 1/2 " but they can put pic if they want or screen name or whatever but like you said, try to include some fabric from the row we used so we can tell who did what. And then a "label" that can be any size and will say like:
"Quilting to Know You"
ROW ROBIN 2011
"Spring"

1.Gail D <SPACE> "Qbee"
2.
3.

So excited! :D

TFquilter:
Eeek.....OK...I'm starting to get REALLY nervous here. I mean your block is just so stunning...seriously! I started quilting in July and I don't have an embroidery machine :( But...I thought about your row all night last night and came up with a couple of ideas while soaking in the tub! LOL...I do my best thinking there! I need you to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me HONESTLY if you don't like any of them 'cause I am still thinking!! They are all applique ideas.
1st idea - I thought about doing the "present" for your ladies past and present in silhouettes. For example, I was thinking of say doing a little girl silhouette, not in black but solid to match background, like say if it is a pink/burgandy floral background the little girl would be burgandy. Here is an example of what I mean by silhouette:
http://karenswhimsy.com/girl-silhouette.shtm
Then one block could be a teen with more "hip" background fabric. And have them age or something like that.
2nd idea - Was to do a row of dresses along the same line with the "aging" process. Like the first little dress would be a baby girl dress, then the next would be a little girl, then teen, the wedding or something like that. These would be more "present" looking as well.
3rd idea - Just ladies "stuff" like a dress shoe in one block, a evening gown in one block, a hat in one block, etc. Or say a whole row of hats that span the years from say, bonnets to 20s style to now kind of thing...that might be hard...hmm.
OK...that's all I have but I can think of others if you don't like any of these. If you like all, which do you like best?? Also, I was thinking of the "present" ladies the whole time....if you want to keep it all victorian, I can rethink them with that theme too. I want you to LOVE your row so please feel totally free to tell me your thoughts!

Sorry but one more question...I am trying to get my "Row Robin Area" put together with my notes, etc. Will I ALWAYS send to TF Quilter? Like I'll send my own row to her 1st round and then I'll send FQ Stash Queen's row with my row added to her the 2nd round, etc. Is that correct??

Our mailing order is: Me to FQ Stash Queen
FQ Stash Queen to Qbee
Qbee to TF Quilter
TF Quilter to pamesue
Pamesue to me

Reminder of due dates: Row 1 -- Feb 15
Row 2 -- April 15
Row 3 -- June 15
Row 4 -- Aug 15
Row 5 -- Oct 15

---------------------------------------

TF Quilter -- Your row is beautiful!!!! Are you sure you are in the right group -- like maybe you belong with the advanced group???? Wow -- I don't know how I can add to that. Where did you get your pattern? Are you looking for applique for the rest of the rows? I assume you want to maintain a Victorian "feel" to the rest of the quilt. I can't imagine mixing anything that beautiful with mod images are cartoon types. Would vintage Sunbonnet Sue qualify? Pamesue -- you have a tough act to follow. Can't wait to see what you do.

Hey FQ Stash Queen:
I have a couple of questions :D I noticed that you have your theme colors as brown/blue/green but we had it brown/turquoise?? Is it 3 colors like brown, blue and green or 2 colors brown and blue/green (ie: turquoise)?? Also, I was doing a search on the Debbie Mumm fabrics but duh....there are several...LOL!! Not sure what I was thinking there...too excited I guess! Could you post pic of fabric or give us a link to the fabric you are talking about? Thanks so much!!

I would like to suggest that if we do that (a block for the back), that we include our quote from from the Board along with our Board name. I look forward to "meeting" each of you and working on your precious quilts. Sounds as if we all intend to keep them. I know I won't be able to part with mine, and given the level of skill in this group, expect mine to be your least favorite!

My "kitchen" theme does not mean I expect spoons, mixers, toasters, etc. appliqued on it. I am simply using kitchen fabrics in the Debbie Mumm line. Feel free to applique onto it if you choose, but I am using different blocks with the fabrics in it. I would also like a border, and had intended to ask about it, so is there anyone who isn't doing one? What size are most of you doing? I was thinking 1-1/2" done.

Are we going to agree to send everything priority with confirmation? Sorry, but I have a lot of trouble with the P.O. and that's the only way I seem to be guaranteed to get things. If it's a problem, I will enclose the postage for each person in with the original package and you can pass it on. Frankly, don't think it will cost a lot more than regular mail until we get to the last one or two. If you'd rather, I can just pay you back.
