Sherry....never done a round robin...have some questions:

When you say each person adds a row from 3 1/2" to 9 1/2"....does that mean the first person could add a 9 1/2" border and, theoretically, everyone else could add 9 1/2" borders as well .....(????)....doesn't that make it just basically all borders and very large?

What is the time limit for each border on a round robin?

Could probably figure this out but I have a terrible head cold plus allergies , sneezing and bronchitis so I'm not thinking too clearly at the moment ... ultimately will probably want to be "in"...wasn't there someone else that wanted in our group (???) ... can you have more than 5 in a group and if so would we specify a maximum
width for each border?

Did anyone sign up for the mug rug swap beside me?....sign up ends I think June 20 and must be completed
somewhere around the first week (I think) in July.......................

A round robin is learning how to make different borders. You measure your center and make it divisable by 3's + 1/2" for seam allowances. Each person adds a border. Everyone does not add 9 1/2". Look back on posts #424-430. We had the option to make the borders 3 1/2"- 9 1/2". And you can see that we did not all make 9 1/2" borders, but varied the widths. Some tops came out bigger than others.
Oldcatlady wants to join our group, if we do this. Also, look at this link for more ideas.

I'm fine with adding another person to our Round Robin. Yes, I agree that we need to establish our guidlines at the beginning of the RR. Yes, each row/border needs to be attached. I think a 2 month timeframe (just like our current RR) would be reasonable as we're all working on other projects.

If you google image 'medallion' quilts it will give you a good idea - and some inspiration - as to what a Round Robin quilt can be.

I think we might have something!!

""can you have more than 5 in a group and if so would we specify a maximum width for each border?'''

I personally think we need to keep it to a max of 6 people; 2 months to rotate; and a maximum width - to be decided amongst the group.

This is why I asked, in our current RR, for your quilt blocks to be unattached so I can decide how I want to arrange everything. Originally, I was planning on turning it into a Round robin but will have to wait til I see everything. Who knows??? I might end up assembling it as a ROW robin.

Don't know what funky stuff I have but it's NASTY! Hope it misses all of you!

You all know I like challenges but, at heart, I'm, as a general rule, disgustingly practical ...(Can't imagine where I would use a square quilt....not on my bed....no room on walls)...what do you all do with yours? On the other hand, could use more imagination in my borders and need lots of practice....hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....still dithering.....could we have a month break so I have time to finish up a few UFO's (pretty please with sugar on it)???????
So.......in re to your center motif, am I correct in assuming that it, also, must be divisible by 3's? plus, of course, 1/2' for seam allowances? ...as in 27" tall by 18" wide if you want an oblong quilt ( I could deal with this) or 27" by 27" if you want a square quilt...am I in the ballpark in my thinking? (Can you tell I'm weakening )

Not sure what I've got but nasty, nasty stuff! YUCK!

So if I understand correctly the center COULD theoretically be 27" plus seam allowances by 18" plus seam allowances in order to come up with an oblong quilt OR 27" by 27" plus seam allowances for a square quilt.....right?

When would we start?

Who's willing to be the moderator .. (not me) ... the computer and I aren't exactly compatible and I'm not that familiar with the working rules of the quilting board? Sherry you did a great job of keeping us on track for the row robin

Yvonne - - sorry to hear you're not feeling well. See if you can get some Echinacea. Might help.

If we do our new RR, I would be fine with taking a short break. Maybe start in August or September?? Also, my center will most likely be rectangular for the very reason Yvonne mentioned. I'm not fond of square quilts.
