Do you store all precuts together regardless of theme? All jelly rolls together. All FQ together. All yardage together?

Or do you store all together by theme regardless of cuts? All Christmas rolls, bundles, yardage together?

I store all my jelly rolls, layer cakes, charm packs etc by cut. Fat Quarters that are a collection are kept bundled and since 80% of my fabric is Batik, I have those sorted by cut and color. The remainder of my quilting fabric is sorted by color so thats its easy to pull from. I spent about 6 weeks towards the end of 2019 getting my studio and my fabric organized and not only does it look better I can actually find what I need. I also sold off about 40% of my stash and was very happy with the end results.
What works for me may not work for someone else, its such a personal choice as we are all wired differently.

I don't buy pre-cuts but do my own, they're stored by the cut and also by color. Find whatever way works for you and do it that way.

I rarely buy precuts so the few I have are together. I have purchased a couple of FQ bundles if I love the collection and keep them together until I find a pattern that is perfect for it.

I rarely buy precuts. I sort by color and put all like colors in one bin and so on. I do have some theme fabrics together like Christmas and Halloweeen.

I sort my fabric as follows:
Yardage- 1 to 3 yard cuts sorted by color
Yardage- bigger than a fat quarter but smaller than 1 yard sorted by color
Fat quarters- batiks on their own, sorted by color
Fat quarters- bundles together, the rest sorted by color
Scraps bigger than a fat quarter- stored with yardage
Scraps fat quarter size- stored with fat quarters
Scraps smaller than a fat quarter- cut into sizes I like to use and stored by size and color within the size category:

Works for me, but as others have said, everyone is different, so it may take time to discover what works best for you.

I have all my precuts on a shelf. Stacked in any order. I like to see them displayed, I get motivated just looking at them. My yardage is wrapped on empty fabric bolts and stand upright in sturdy canvas bins. It is so easy to take bolt out of the bin then removing from a shelf when its folded with more on top of it. My loose fat quarters are in big baskets no certain order. My scraps go in a big metal tin and when full I give them away, I seldom use out of the scrap bin and I always make more scraps anyway. If I kept all the scraps I'd be overwhelmed with them.

This thread is making me take a really hard look at my fabric and how I store/use it.

• Unopened jelly rolls on a shelf playing well together. Partially used jelly rolls rolled up by color and secured by rubber bands in a plastic container.
• Fat quarters on a shelf not sorted by color but looking at them I just may sort by color and have prints aside.
• Comic boards stored by color. Yardage on comic boards...then I take the board out to use for smaller cuts.
• Comic boards also have larger than f/c smaller than yardage.
• Batiks stored separately and so are Christmas fabric.
• Walmart had clear shoe storage boxes on sale and I bought a lot. Storing charms and less than fat quarters by color. (Theses boxes look so pretty.)

No matter how you store your fabric it is a big job when you start to organize. But once it's done, you'll love it. Prior to this I had all my fabric sorted by color and each plastic container had one color.

I have the majority of my several thousand yards of fabric stored by color. There are a few exceptions however. A. Batiks are separate and then by color. B. My 1930 repos are separate and fill a good part of one shelf. C. There are small pieces that are less than a yard. I am now organizing those pieces on comic book boards. This is taking more time than I thought it would. I didn't realize just how much I had here. D. Bundles of FQ are kept together until I am ready to use them. E. Christmas fabrics are in a bin under the bed (2bins actually) F. Since I don't have a lot of layer cakes or Jelly rolls they don't have a designated place yet. .G.. Scrap bins are filled with scraps for scrappy quilts. I make a lot of scrappy quilts. F. what is cut off when making cuts. I don't throw away anything. cut always are put in a bag for another quilter who makes dog bed with these little scraps So nothing is in the trash except for what is cut when squaring up a block.
