I recently bought a new home and have a huge sewing room now. But I can't figure out a way to organize my threads so I can see them and the colors. I would love to see other ideas from the members here to see if something would work in my area or work if I modified it. I haven't gotten everything moved in yet but have enough that I can sew.

My entire basement is my sewing room and just about every inch of wall space is taken over with either a design wall, bookcases (fabric) or pegboard for notions and threads. Here's my sewing room. A few things have changed since these photos but not much. Am getting ready to install a larger design wall in the cutting room though.

I love the idea of hanging the batting roll on the ceiling. Extra space. No matter the size of your room, you will fill it up.

I have 5 clear plastic shoe boxes. I labeled them and keep certain colors in certain boxes. Example - blue/green, black/white, pink/red/purple. It's not nearly as beautiful as Suz in Iowa but it does the trick for me. When I need blue thread, I pull out that shoebox and since it's clear, I first hold it up to see if I can see the perfect color right away. If not, I start unpacking the box until I find something suitable.

That's my spool threads. I don't have a lot of cone threads, they are just lined up on a shelf.

I'm also in the basement Suz, but I just have a small portion of it. I'm drooling over your space!

I don't like my threads out as I feel they get dusty from all the cutting etc, I keep mine in plastic storage boxes according to type, I keep all the serger thread in one, embroidery thread in another, polyester in another cotton in another etc, it works for me

I like those double sided plastic boxes like the kids use for Matchbox cars but my collection isn't very big.

Just to clarify something. My threads and machines are covered up with tea towels (36j x36) when not in use. Took them off to photo the room. Also just recently I picked up a pack of those colored rubber mats that go together like a jigsaw puzzle. The floor is cement so hard on the feet and back. Put them in front of the quilt machine. WOW!!! What a difference they make. The leftovers went out to the rear garage where I play with power tools. Got the mats at Sam's Club.

Also not pictured are my fat quarters and scraps. Have them stashed under the cutting table in clear plastic shoebox size totes by color and/or width of scrap.

Wow great ideas. I don't have many spool threads but since I bought a long arm and am in the process of buying an embroidery machine I will have more. I like the idea of the clear boxes and would love to put them on the wall but I think my walls will be taken up with shelving and machines. One wall is covered with big windows. I have my fabrics in totes with a file of swatches on card stock telling me where the fabrics are located and how much there is of each one. I am loving the bog room since I have always had small spots throughout the house to sew in. Organizing is the hard part and I know as I use it I will change things around to make it more convenient.
