I’m working on clearing out our finished basement and using a portion for sewing and crafts. I was going to rehome this dvd/vhs rack since we don’t have any of those anymore. I was about to take it to the rehome pile when I realized I might be able to use it for hanging extra material, WIP pieces and any other random stuff. I’m trying to be very efficient with this space because it’s not huge. So the question is do you think this is a worthy piece or should I find it a new home?

I can’t figure out how to attach the pic, but it’s like this one. It’s oak and has wood dowels.

If you have a lot of quilt books like I do you may be able to store them in the rack. I think there will be a lot of ideas given to you by members on this QB. Everyone here is so creative.

You could hang cut strips from the dowels.

Also, you could hang pieces of freshly ironed fabric on it.

If you have room, I would say keep it - at least for a while.

Do you need storage for charm packs? I use the plastic bins for the pantry that are approx 16"L x 5"H and 6" W. They hold charm packs. I also ruler fold less than 1/2 yard into 5 inch square pieces. They would fit on the dowels.

Got rulers? Use notebook rings to hang them on the dowels. Shower curtain clips would work too.

If you put your stash on mini bolts the same size as the cases, you would have a nice way to store your stash.

I was thinking like bearisgray. Temporary hanging spot for strips and ironed pieces while you work. I use a quilt rack that way. Some people use a drying rack. But if the thing takes up a lot of precious floor space , and you have a closet, you could hang strips and ironed fabric from skirt hangers and they would not be visual clutter.

I would keep it for the same reason others have stated. I bought a metal folding drying rack to hang my strips on when I am cutting them or drying them (I have to wash my pre-cuts), I think you could hang a lot of different cuts of fabric on it. Or you could even get hooks and hang things from it like your scissors, rulers, even patterns you want out. (I hang mine with tacks on the wall so I don't forget I have them.) I like to admire my embroidered items for a while in my sewing room - so I would display them on it. All sorts of uses for it, if you have the room.

Try it for awhile and see if you use it. If not get rid of it. I would probably get rid of it if space was limited.

Thanks for that idea. I have one holding bottles of soda and juice in a corner, out of the way.
I have recently acquired a second and now I know wha wil be hanging or resting on it. Woo Hoo
