I am still waiting, QuiltE, for a picture of your quilting room. With all my new sewing tables for the three machines, I do not have room for a large ironing board. Guess I will continue to pay the good neighbor the five dollars to iron my quilt tops before quilting them. But the plywood sounds like a very good idea. Desires some serious thought.

Someone on here a while back bought an old dresser and made an ironning board like this on top. It was nice

I'm planning to make one about that size on a portion of our old kitchen cabinets. It's 24" x 60". I don't know if I would have one on legs like that-I'd be worried about it falling.

Thank you everyone! I liked the idea of it being portable with using the ironing board frame. My room is smaller and don't really have an area for just ironing..... Lots of great ideas here!!!!

My ironing board used to stay up in my sewing room at all times so I just dedicated a space for one when I moved into my new studio. DH and I took an old shelving unit, cut it to the right height, and then made a permanent plywood top for it--about 18" X 56". I covered it with a layer of foil, 2 layers of W&N and then some cotton duck fabric that had been hanging around forever looking for a home. Just wrapped and stapled it all to the underside. It does not fold up, but it can be moved quite easily. I love that it has storage underneath for starch, press cloths, fusibles, etc.

This is what I made. Made the frame for the ironing center from some white oak I had left over from a project. The drawers and upper cabinet are made of trim boards from my son's farm house remodel.
