Mine are in mason jars that have tops that were made into pincushions. I keep them on a top shelf.

I used to keep them in a beautiful, rare blue Mason jar until my GD picked it up to admire. Well, you know what happened! Now I keep them in small fruit jars from the grocery store. The shape was pretty and the size just right for what I had. Luckily I have quite a few before the company changed the shape. If the buttons are the same I like to sew thread through them so I know the quantity available without too much searching. I also have different categories such as color, metal, wood, child, etc. It looks very nice on that TOP shelf.

I bought small food storage boxes at the Dollar Store and sorted my buttons by color. The boxes were three small for a buck and two larger ones for a buck. they stack on top of each other.

I have 3 family members button collections each is in some sort of metal container. My prize collection is from my Dad's Mom. It is in an old marshmallow tin. As a kid I played with those buttons often. When I packed my Mom's sewing room I found her buttons in a large metal cookie tin. Then I found her Mom's in a fruit cake tin.

I have the divided containers and my buttons are sorted by color and season, and you can see through them. A lot are labeled as well. I have bought them on sales at Jo Anns and similar places. They are like oversized pill boxes.

A few years ago , I sold my very large stash of sewing and crafty stuff including my hundreds of buttons before I moved to Fl. I had a small car and brought what I could pack in it. Ive spent the past six years trying to replace all of it , haha , and having great fun. My tip for storing buttons is this. I used to save the plastic coated wires from bread( breadties) and use them to string together my buttons. They were good for a few buttons. Also, I saved the paper coated wires that you sometimes find around fresh greens in the grocery store which are much longer. My mother taught me to recycle everything and I do.
Have a great day.

When I have a small amount of buttons to keep track of I use the plastic embroidery boxes with all the dividers in them, they are fairly inexpensive and stack well. My larger supply go in these jars.lol
