I have been painting away, got all the walls done, and am adding the pictures to show the room in it's infancy. The room is 12x20. This first picture is looking to the southeast and I will have about an 8 ft square design wall, and I have started a Dear Jane, so those are the pieces that I have attached so far, to try to make the squares blend. Now this is looking to the northeast, where I have a closet and will be putting shelves in there. This is looking to the northwest, and the door goes outside. The last one looks to the southwest and this is where I will have 2 desks for my sewing machines. I still have a long wait ahead of me, to get the lights and outlets hooked up, then the carpet and the trimboard, but I know it will happen. I am so excited.

Great work area!!!! Can understand your wanting it done, I was the same way with mine, lol, I spend a lot of time in mine. Love the yellow colors you picked!!!

Grandma Jane 01-14-2012 04:31 PM

Great space, my sewing room is yellow, too. I wanted a room that was light and airy feeling.

Judith1005 01-14-2012 05:00 PM

Gorgeous area. I know you will be glad when it's done. Will keep checking back for progress updates and pictures.

SittingPretty 01-14-2012 08:03 PM

Really coming along nicely. I envy you all the space! My room is only 12 X 13, but I do have a really large closet with shelves.

Panchita 01-15-2012 02:43 AM

So, so jealous. It will be fabulous when it is finished and you can move in!!

gramma nancy 01-15-2012 05:05 AM

Yes, thank you. And to all who have posted comments, and to those who just look. I have always hated moving a desk or other piece of furniture to plug something in. I wanted those 2 switches to control the light fixtures above and also the outlets beside them, so when I shut off the lights, I am also shutting off my iron and sewing machines. He thought I was a little daffy, but I knew what I was using the space for, and that is a safety factor for me.

Great work, wish I could get down stairs to fix up the basement for a quilt studio! You are doing great!

valleyquiltermo 01-15-2012 06:59 AM

That is going to be a nice cheery place to create.

Marilyn Philips 01-15-2012 07:18 AM

Your room is going to be wonderful. Love that stained glass window.

southernmema 01-15-2012 07:29 AM

Looking good! Very special room for you!!

craftymatt2 01-15-2012 07:55 AM

This will be one very nice room for you to relax in and do nothing but sew sew sew. I have my basement all to myself, its not finished, but i like it that way, its very warm, with no carpeting on the floor but i can use my chair with the wheels and it makes it that more easy, also my hubs put in flouriscent lighting. I can spread out all over the place.

ksdot417 01-15-2012 09:07 AM

Looks great. Keep us posted as the work progresses. I'm excited for you.

probles 01-15-2012 10:51 AM

I love the color. Very warm. It seems you have great light coming in, which is good. More than the walls, I want your design boards. I just do not have room to put up one that big in my sewing studio. Congratulations on the space. You will really love it when it is all done.

booklady 01-15-2012 12:15 PM

Seems there are never enough outlets when you need one! I like those high ones as well. My room is a former bedroom so Elec is tight. One day my dad (the former fire chief) is going to walk in here and throw a huge fit if he sees some of my outlets!

tweety2 01-15-2012 02:26 PM

Love your stain glass window!. Nice room.

chermitch 01-15-2012 04:30 PM

Very nice sewing room!!!! I am sure you are glad you have the walls painted now!!!!!Can't wait to see it all put together now!!!!! Nice quilt on your design wall!!! I too love that stained glass window!!!

charlottemarie 01-15-2012 05:15 PM

I am so happy for you. I would die for that kind of space to be organized in. enjoy it every minute!

Dee 01-15-2012 08:49 PM

Your room is lovely and yellow is so cheery. Stain glass window too.

piepatch 01-16-2012 04:35 AM

Nice room! I learned long ago that yellow is a perfect color for the sewing room. It seems to offer "sunlight' around the clock, and good vision on the work at hand.

caspharm 01-16-2012 08:21 AM

Looking good and I love the stained glass window.

southernmema 01-16-2012 08:50 AM

You go girl! Great Job!

Iraxy 01-16-2012 11:08 AM

I think the outlet to control the light, iron and machines is a good idea. My DH says not, but I don't think he understands the why.

crafterrn1 01-16-2012 11:14 AM

Love it! Enjoy designing the new space! Luann

dd55 01-16-2012 01:20 PM

that is a nice size room. love the design wall. keep us updated on the progress.

jcrow 01-16-2012 02:55 PM

My sewing room is yellow also. Isn't that funny? It's such a bright cheery color. I'm so happy for you. Your room is going to be your new "home".

JanieH 01-16-2012 03:22 PM

Love your paint choice and the stained glass window. So glad for you!

earthwalker 01-16-2012 03:26 PM

Looking good (nice colours)....you really seem to be enjoying the process. Look forward to seeing more pics.

Jingle 01-16-2012 06:27 PM

When finished it will be a great sewing room and oh so big. Good for you.

lfstamper 01-16-2012 06:28 PM

How wonderful your space is. You will have so much fun organizing the way you like it.

QM 01-16-2012 06:30 PM

Yummy! I just wish I had that much space.

I agree about having outlets where they can be reached. Fortunately, my DH agrees with me.

craftymatt2 01-16-2012 07:19 PM

Boy, your sewing room is going to be beautiful, it will be done before you know it, i have my whole basement to myself, its not finished, but thats the way i like it, my sewing chair is on wheels and i can go faster without carpeting. Its very warm in my basement, you can go barefoot. My basement is 3/4 underground, but i have windows to escape if the house is burning upstairs.

Jecreed 01-16-2012 08:20 PM

Beautiful bright yellow. What fun it will be to work in that room!

nstitches4u 01-16-2012 09:50 PM

I know you are excited. It will be a wonderful sewing studio! We built on a 12 x 23 room for my studio a couple of years ago. I couldn't imagine what I would do with all that space! It didn't take me long to fill it up! LOL

gmavis 01-17-2012 03:11 PM

Beautiful room. I like the yellow paint and I love the stained glass window. did you make it? My sis did stained glass and I have some lovely pieces. Will love seeing this room when it is finished. Thanks for the update.
