Clean Slate, Coming Along

1 Attachment(s)
I've finally finished the graph drawing of the new room! This floor plan and furniture set up will cater to my sewing/mobility needs and also provide my DD with her own little sewing space that's all her own. I'll have a small storage room with plenty of bookshelves to hold all of my sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting patterns, along with my scrapbooking table, an ironing board and plenty of space for the totes that hold my non-quilting fabrics. I'll have plenty of wall space for hanging shelves for added space and pegboards for plenty of tools, rulers and quilting stencils. I can't wait!

Tomorrow my brother is coming over to help rip up the old floor, run all of the new wiring for plenty of outlets, and finish installing the new windows. Then DH and I will get to insulating the ceiling and outer walls. Then, in just about a week or so, we'll be ready to reinforce the floor joists, install the subflooring, hang the drywall, spackle, and sand. Then it's all cosmetic! We'll be painting and installing the new floors. I can't wait!! We're hoping, hesitantly, to be finishing up between Mother's Day and Memorial Day. I'll have just enough time to set the new room in order before we start working on the old sewing room/new master bedroom.

DH and I have always planned on doing this whole house remodel, and we did plan to start a few years back, but then I ended up needing my surgeries and my back/leg/hip issues ensued. Now I'm finding out that I can climb the stairs just fine in the mornings, but not in the evenings. So, we decided to start the remodel now so that our bedroom can be downstairs and the sewing room upstairs (I sew in the mornings).

Looks like a wonderful layout.

I took drafting in college and you did an excellent job with your design layout. Before I get shelving put in my small storage space next to my apt, I need to draw out a plan like yours for shelving. Hope all goes well and quickly.

Ps, I get to Binghamton area a lot! Am I even close to come play when you're all done?! So happy for you....it's going to be GRAND!

Looks great. If I new how to draft like you, maybe my room would look better though it functions well. You sure have a lot of talent to do all those crafts. I only do quilting and some cross stitching. Used to build doll houses from kits but don't have enough time for that now that I'm retired.

Your plans look great. Good luck on meeting your deadline. I have similar issues about getting over tired in the afternoon and early evening. Hope you get everything done just like you want it and enjoy every moment in there.

Thanks everyone! We're coming along. Slowly, but surely. We're only able to do the major work on Tuesdays and Sundays, so on the off days, we're trying to maintain the semblance of a clean house, do the minor work and still homeschool. Yesterday most of the floor went down. Tomorrow we're going to instal a new fan in the bathroom ceiling, since it's just below my new storage area, before laying down the floor in that room. Then we can wire and finish installing the new windows. After that it will be time to sheet rock. Debbie C, I'm more NNY than CNY, so I still think I'm quite a bit out of your way, lol. I'm just a little over an hour south of Canada.

I'm so excited! After learning that the second floor ceiling/attic floor was rotting and the support beams all needed to be changed we decided to changed our expected finish date to Mother's Day...and we may just make it! The last of the wiring will be done by this Sunday when my brother comes to do the three way light wiring. Then we'll finish the last of the insulating, switch out the windows and frame in the interior separating wall! Hopefully we can start hanging dry wall Monday and painting by next weekend!!

Of course, finishing this room is just the beginning of the full home remodel, but it's a start and I know that finishing it will be a sort of accomplishment that can fuel us forward as we go. After the sewing room is complete and put in order, then the old sewing room will be ready to be remodeled as a new master bedroom...on the first floor! My aching back, hips and leg will love that. I told DH that all I wanted for Mother's Day was to have that room finished and a nice relaxing day with no remodeling work. His aging great aunt seems to be sinking slowly into Dementia, so we're hoping to treat her out for Mother's Day and a belated 86th birthday bash all in one. She doesn't have a clue yet, and I can't wait to see her face. So, May seems to be bringing lots of fun, great times for us! I can't wait to post pictures!
