Cleaning and re-organizing my sewing room/craft/office!
 

My sewing/craft/office had enough room for me to walk in the door and to my desk and sewing table. My dh takes things upstairs and just sets them on the landing so you have to step over them! So I called in my bf and we dug in. We had 3 garbage bags and burned at least 4 garbage bags of paper. We have moved my desk and sewing table around so that it is easier for me to sew and hook my sewing machine to the computer. Now I am waiting for dh to build me some shelves so I can get things off the floor. When it is done I will try and post pictures. My new motto is "When I get something out and am done with it I WILL put it away"!

I sweaqr by this book: Organizing Solutions for Every Quilter: An Illustrated Guide to the Space of Your Dreams. It really helped me organize my sewing room and really look at my things junking up the place.

Denise, who is the author? Need to see if my library has this book and I'm not finding it by the title.

I just ordered it from Amazon. I C/P the title and put it in Google and it came up on Amazon.

The author was Carolyn Woods.

Lois Hallack has a book called Creating your perfect Quilting Space Sewing room Makeovers for any space and any budget weather you work in a corner of your kitchen or a full sewing studio make over of a garage space. Lots of photos and a worksheet to design the area based on your individual needs. She spoke at our guild meeting a couple of years ago.

That book is worth it's weight in gold! Every quilter should have it.

I have this book and agree its one of the best out there. I used it especially when I was organizing my fabric, and its all pretty nice and neat. I also have to use my dining area in the kitchen to sew, so it make it easy to organize things so I could work better.

I just got the Carolyn Woods book and wished I had gotten it from the library. There are a few good ideas that were new to me, but on the whole was a disappointment. From looking at reviews on Amazon, I'm wondering if these types of books should be borrowed from libraries. Everyone's situation is so different it is difficult to talk about organization without generalizing.

January is typical organization month. There will be lots of magazines offering help. Organization products will be on sale too.

My new sewing room is almost done! Drywall is up and its in the process of the finish sanding, then paint.
Can't wait...its been "on the list" for 10 years!!
I'll have to check out those books. I have a habit of letting things get cluttered!

A reorganization is on my agenda as well. I have a closet full of "stuff" (non quilting, a general catch-all) that I need to move out/trash/donate then I want to build shelves in the closet, then wrap my stash on boards and stack in the closet. This way I can organize by color etc, close the doors and it's out of the sun/dust, and have more room under the cutting table for supplies. Right now my stash is stacked on the floor next to the dresser and stacked on the floor under the cutting table. It's neatly stacked, and not in my way - but I want it in the closet. I'd like to be able to vacuum the rug in there without fear of catching an edge of fabric on the vacuum cleaner!!

Since most of the basement "Wreckroom" remodel is done, I finally have my studio back! After the holidays my plan is to get it reorganized. It's not too bad right now, but I want to put up my design wall (which I couldn't reach because of all the stuff from the other part of the basement) and have my son put up an adjacent wall on which can mount pegboard for my rulers. I also have a magnetic bulletin board to mount over my sewing machine. There's a little more decluttering (of paperwork) to do back there, but once the walls are done, it should be about finished! I will probably then reorganize my fabrics, although they are organized by color or theme already. I just want to move some other stored items so all the fabric is together.

It sure is fun to have well-organized, decluttered spaces in which to work!

I have both books and working on a new sewing area to be build this spring. Hope this winter is a short one.
