Cork flooring question
 

I am SO happy! We just bought a new (to us) home with a casita. I am going to make the casita into my quilting and scrap booking studio. It currently has carpeting which I want to replace. I've read suggestions here that cork flooring is a good choice, but a neighbor told me her SIL was unhappy with hers (we don't know why specifically). What have your experiences been? Is there something better than cork? Any other ideas about cabinets would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

According to what I saw on HGTV, the guys install cork a lot. It is waterproof, soft on the feet, and wears for years. I do not know anyone who ever used it though. I want to install something new in my kitchen but he has not decided what and when yet. I think I will just go and order something and have it delivered. You should have tile in parts of your home, are you pleased with that? If it is a large room, maybe that terricoda(?) color would be nice. Good luck to you in your decision.

I have it in my very tiny bathroom and it is soft, warm, easy to clean. However, if I put a ladder or step stool in it it leaves impressions on the floor so I suspect semi-pemanant chairs, desks etc would do the same. It is thermo-neutral so warmer on the bare feet. By the way, what is a casita??

A friend had cork floors in her beauty shop. It was easy in the feet but horrible to try and get the hair up. I think thread would be worse. Good luck in your choice.

I have heard that it is nice to stand on etc - but furniture and such do leave divots in the flooring...and places where there a chair is rolled or slid back and forth on the floor it becomes marked up pretty quickly. I have to wonder what would happen if a pair of scissors were to be dropped in this flooring.

I was interested in the responses on cork flooring as well. I had not considered that furniture would dent it. I installed wood laminate in my sewing room and tile in my longarm room (converted porch) and am happy with both. Easy to clean.

I have cork tiled flooring in my sewing room. It has an acrylic layer over the top to protect from moisture, unlike the cork tiles I grew up with 50+ yrs. ago. I love it, it's easy to clean, threads come right up. Just vac to clean and damp mop very occasionally. I do have flooring mats under my rolling chair by my computer desk and sewing machine. There are lots of colors/patterns to pick from.

A casita is a small house...what I think others would call a guest house, maybe?

WE have cork planks that look like wood in our kitchen and family room. It also has a finish on it that makes it tough. Is is easy on your legs and back. This floor gets a lot of wear and tear and is holding up beautifully. Very easy to clean also. I would recommend it.
