I added a strip of oak above my windows to use as an extra place to display works in progress. Nails spaced about 6 inches apart allow me to clothes pin my tops up to view.
I can take work up and down to sew. For me having a spot to display and view from a distance is nice.

I can see using a similar oak strip as a way to display finished work.

THanks so much for sharing this. I know it will be helpful to many of us

My husband made me one from 2 strips of lumber. One strip is attached to the upper portion of the other leaving a gap between the board and the wall when mounted. I use 1" binder clips to attach my quilts to it.

LynnM 02-01-2012 06:47 PM

Awsome quilts!

karen924 02-01-2012 06:50 PM

I love the Orca Bay too! I had second thoughts about doing the border and ended up deciding to give it a try. I was afraid that it wouldn't fit correctly and I would hate it - it ended up going right together with no problem! A pleasant surprise to me!! Great work!

AUQuilter 02-02-2012 07:03 AM

great idea. we don't always have room for display space and your idea works out great.

amyjo 02-02-2012 08:43 AM

flannel sheet and pins , roll it up when not in use.

gypsylady5 02-02-2012 09:24 AM

Great idea. I have the windows, but in the wrong room. Maybe I can put them over the door wall in my sewing room. I'll have to think about it. Only wall space left!

carolynjo 02-02-2012 11:44 AM

You have come up with a clever solution.

sparkys_mom 02-03-2012 06:16 AM

Great idea! I definitely need to do that. :)

Jory 02-03-2012 07:56 AM

My sewing room is in the basement, and the bottom half of the wall is made of stained, rough wood, the top half is painted drywall, framed by smaller pieces of the same wood.

I strung wire between the sections of one of the walls, running the wire through the springs on clothespins. Makes a wonderful display area for quilts in progress. Similar idea, but more clothespins and easier to DIY.

Love the quilt (I guess the Orca Bay) it's colors are what I have been looking for. The blocks look spectacular.
