I only emptied one and half bins of scraps plus the pile and I vow right now to never let them get a head of me again!

Famous last words! :D They look so pretty all cut and stacked!

cavmom 05-27-2013 04:49 PM

Wow, way to go! You did a great job organizing them. Much better than my pile of wrinkled scraps!

SandyinZ4 05-27-2013 04:51 PM

I think you did great. Now you can find something when you need it. I really need to do this, too!

quiltingcandy 05-27-2013 04:52 PM

Any progress is good progress. I am so easily distracted these days I am thrilled to finish anything.

Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE your pink and green! My fav colors! And the paisley ironing board cover is the cherry on top!

tjk829 05-27-2013 06:44 PM

Thanks I really like the pink and green too. The ironing board cover was the most challenging to make, but I have it figured out now!

Tartan 05-27-2013 06:59 PM

I swear my scraps take a deep breath and expand when I try to organize them.:)

QuiltnLady1 05-27-2013 07:18 PM

Every time I make a scrappy quilt I think my scraps have doubled. tjk829 -- I have been doing the same thing you did, but I have been cutting strips too when I have longer pieces.

Is that home dec weight fabric?

tessagin 05-27-2013 07:32 PM

You did good. By the way I like your pocket storage hanger on the wall above your ironing board.

peacefulquilting 05-27-2013 08:01 PM

I have that same book!! Has it helped you a lot?? I'm hoping to get my fabric (and scraps and other stuff) organized when I move into my new sewing room in the next few weeks!! (Keep your fingers crossed!)

Nammie to 7 05-27-2013 08:24 PM

Might not seem like much but every little bit helps! It is so easy to pull out fabric when trying to pick out for a quilt but it just isn't as much fun to put it away! When I make myself clean up even a little area I feel so much better about going into the sewing room and working!

CoventryUK 05-28-2013 12:17 AM

You do know scraps 'breed' during the night don't you?????:D

Country1 05-28-2013 08:07 AM

Looking good!

tjk829 05-28-2013 09:19 AM

The fabric on the ironing board is a fairly heavy cotton duck. I am going to leave the lights on in that room so there is no more scrap breeding during the night! lol

Mine too. They also reproduce when I cut into them! haha

Halo 05-28-2013 09:45 AM

I am doing the same thing right now. Have been working on my scraps for four days now. All the blocks, I am cutting, range from 1 inch to 8 inches. Also doing triangles & strips. I have cleaned out 5 shopping bags so far, but still have two boxes to do. Determined to get these all done before starting another project, but don't think that will happen. LOL

mjhaess 05-28-2013 12:10 PM

Great job...Now you can come visit me....

ube quilting 05-28-2013 12:16 PM

I agree! Same here. I can't keep up, I feel a created too many projects by doing so! My scrap pile sure didn't go down. Just kepted increasing......but it is all good!

kay carlson 05-28-2013 05:48 PM

I tackled scraps of flannel today by creating crumb strips of fabric. You will find yourself creating more and more things because there are workable units available for immediate usage. Congrats on your determination to organize your scraps. It takes time at first, but soon becomes a habit as part of the gathering/cleaning after your project is completed. With a fresh slate, your creativity will soar and you will have the satisfaction of using all of your fabric. :-)

I keep asking how this organization wears me out and how I make even more mess and can't see progress. (not to speak of the comments coming from my family.) How have I made a mess in four rooms and how can I get back to one room.

I think you are making real progress.

craftiladi 06-03-2013 07:22 AM

Congrats, great job!

wolph33 06-04-2013 07:01 AM

great job whipping them into submission, lol

Mariposa 06-05-2013 06:59 AM

Congrats on making progress with your scraps! :)

Scraplady 06-13-2013 11:20 PM

Bonnie Hunter swears by cutting up the scraps from each and every quilt she makes as part of the cleaning up process. I wish I had the discipline to do this. I usually am deep into the next project before the first one gets close to being put away! But I too am determined to keep my scraps under control in the future. I now have a bin I keep on the cutting table for scraps too small to go back into the FQ bins. From now on, when it gets full, we will have a scrap cutting day!

cowgirlquilter 06-15-2013 06:31 PM

Great job!! Love it when I get something all organized.....

carolaug 07-12-2013 01:08 PM

Great idea! I am going to start doing mine tonight. so much neater and seems to take less space.

hopflower 07-12-2013 01:52 PM

It is looking good. You will get there; keep up the great work!

CindyA 07-13-2013 10:41 PM

Someone else mentioned Bonnie Hunter. I've been stopping my projects periodically to cut scraps and use her 'leaders and enders' idea. I'm making half square triangles as I work on my Dear Jane quilt. It's amazing how many half square triangles I'm sewing just while making my DJ blocks.

You did a great job with your scraps. It does seem to take long, but what a good feeling to have those stacks already cut!
