Extension cord for iron
I feel more comfortable when my iron is unplugged when I am away from the area.
My DH fastened an outlet strip to the wall so that it is about 30 inches above the floor so I can easily reach the outlets. Before, I had to crawl under the ironing board to reach the outlet that was the "standard" twelve inches or so above the floor. I would have been happier if he would have bought a strip that has the red light when the power is "on" - but it's a major improvement from what I had. Now it is just an "easy reach" to plug in or unplug the iron. :-) |
Hmmmm you mention the extension cord with outlets 30 inches above the floor ... that has me thinking about my small ironing station... I will definitely raise the extension to the top shelf on the left hand. Thanks for the idea!

Good idea ! My iron has a red light to indicate it is plugged in but I still like it better to be unplugged !

Thanks Bear, I have made the adjustment to the little station, so that when DH makes the next one, he will know to put the screws higher up! Thanks again for the idea....it DOES work better!!

I have all my power strips mounted on the walls. It makes it so much easier to plug and unplug my machines. I have a stand alone OttLite by my ironing board. I have a power strip on the wall that has the iron and OttLite plugged into it. I use the switch on the power strip to turn both the iron and the light on and off. That way, if the light is on I know the iron is on. I can easily tell if I've remembered to turn them both off by glancing at them.

Yes! Power strip with light mounted on wall is what I use too. The large surge protector sits right on the sewing table. No climbing under the table.
Cash's Mom, Thanks for the mention of a light by the ironing board. I have a little space for a floor lamp. Great idea! |
I have my iron and undercabinet light plugged into a power strip. I use the on/off button to turn both on/off. If light is off iron is too.

Yes, I have mine exactly like yours but it has the red light. When I leave home, I unplug everything as I read that the plugs can become defective and we don’t even know it.

When I had my 'sewing room' (which I've outgrown) added onto my house I had all the outlets put about 30 inches up from the floor; so cabinets can be put in and not covering up outlets. It's been great. A hint for those adding on or remodeling for a sewing room.
