Found space for supplies!

I grew up moving frequently and we've lived in this house 20 yrs! Since my DH is well rooted here (and I'm not wanting to move either) decided we needed to do some clearing out. First we started with basement carpet--had some seeping into basement from 2 deluges this spring. DH and I ripped it out. now we need another strong rain to see if our remedies solved seepage issue and if so we'll paint floor so it's easy to clean up thread from long arm.

Then, I decided that the DD (age 35) and DS (age 30) will never come home again--not while I'm alive at least! So started to reclaim their huge walk-in closets. Got son's done about a month ago and he did take some of the stuff (I've left the tubs of mementos and "saver" toys but they had lots of crud) and today did DD--she'll get what she wants this weekend and then the rest goes to charity thrift store.

In DD closet (left DH the space in son's for his books, etc) I've been able to move a huge container of vintage quilts, bat, fleece. I'm also able to move a tub of Christmas fabrics, and on a shelving unit, was able to find a home for the boxes of other craft stuff and my string sacks and other misc. stuff that was stashed in corners of my sewing room. So I feel like I have a new sewing room! And still have a little space for ?? in a shelf in the closet :)

Sounds like both closets will be a great grab of space for you...I'm sure it feels good to get things organized.

I bought those small collapsing cloth boxes for my closet and put labels on them. Sure works for me, hope you find all your things when you need them.

I have done the same with one closet, shelves are a great addition. Am clearing out unwanted fabrics and donating to a local church group to make quilts for those in most need, like the hurricanes that just went through. I need to do another closet.
Hope your basement issue has been solved.

We moved to this rancher home a little of a year ago. When we moved, things, particularly in my sewing room, just got stuffed wherever they could hide. Unfortunately, or fortunately, my husband died this past March. Now I am going into those hiding places and now trying to find proper homes for each.

Unfortunately/fortunately?? John had just been diagnosed with bone cancer which I have learned is the most painful of the cancers. He would not have taken treatment. My neighbor's father had 9 broken bones in his back when he died. I, at 80, would not have been able to take care of him when bones started to break and obviously, there would have been so much pain, then maybe morphine, hospice, nursing home, etc. -- The Bible says that the Father will dispatch the angels to accompany the departed into the throne room of the Father. I miss him so much but I also know that one day I will see again.

I am so thankful for this forum and the ability to quilt. Needless to say, I have quilting to keep me busy.

Suz...so sorry for the loss of your husband. Quilting and this forum are definitely a couple of great ways to keep busy as you work through your new normal.
