Great IKEA Storage!

6 Attachment(s)
I got to visit the brand new IKEA store in Memphis, and came away with some storage help. Bought two "Kallax" units on sale for half price, and some fabric bins and storage boxes, as well as some magaxine files to help organize my mess. LOVE IKEA and can't wait to go back. I've got to fit some more of this good-looking storage in, and get rid of the clutter.

Storage boxes called Tjena

Fabric bins hold a ton of fabric. I put my civil war repros in one, my recycled shirt fabric in two, and my children's I Spy fabrics in the fourth one.

Pretty birch magazine files hide all my ugly papers from sight.

Looks so nice. I plan to do a bit more 'hiding' this year. Thanks for ideas.

Don't you just love IKEA? I have to have a plan when I go there or else I'm too overwhelmed but I love their storage ideas.

Sweet!!! Road trip to Memphis soon for me!

We have a new IKEA coming to Indianapolis later this year, I cannot wait!

I love IKEA. You got a lot of nice storage.

I love Ikea too. My daughter bought a large bookshelf and a tall storage unit (wardrobe) over 10 years ago, since they didn't fit in her new condo she left them here in her old room (now my sewing room). Then someone here posted about a small drawer unit (Ikea's name for it is Alex) and using it for embroidery thread and it is fantastic!!! And someone else here posted about their wire shaving units, again, just what I needed for my closet.
All are easy to get from store to home, easy to assemble, and if I have any questions, my DD comes to my rescue. :-)

I have never been to Ikea -- really want to. Need to see if DD will go with me -- a few years ago she gave me a CD tower that is perfect for fat quarters. I was told it is a bad place for me to go -- too many ideas.

Oh, my gosh! You need to go! Just be sure to take a list of what you need. You'll find plenty of things that you want. My cutting table came from there. I bought the top and then chose legs that can be adjusted up or down for height. Also bought storage units similar to sewbizgirl's, but mine are a natural wood color. Love Ikea...have nothing to do with them except go shopping there about once a year!

I have been to the IKEA in MN twice because I know everyone raves about the them. Both times my husband and I walked around the entire store but walked out with nothing. For me the quality does not match the prices but I know I am definitely in the minority! Glad you got a new fun store in your area sewbizgirl. Storage is always needed!

sewbizgirl 01-03-2017 08:57 AM

Really? I found the prices great. Things like the cardboard boxes aren't meant to last forever. Their stuff is so well designed and so useful!

caspharm 01-03-2017 12:24 PM

I love Ikea, too. I bought several pieces in the past year, including my splurge at the end of year sale, where I bought 2 Alex cabinets on casters and two Kallax 2 x 2's. I already had 1 Alex and a 4 x 2 Kallax. I still need to put the second Alex together.

It turned out that the 2 room dividers I bought when I first moved into my house 6 years ago are the previous incarnation of the 4 x 4 Kallax units.

Your storage looks great. We now live close enough to the IKEA I used to visit when I came here to visit. I can get there in less than 30 minutes! Even if I don't buy anything it is just fun to look around and the store is so big I count it as exercise!!

As I said...I am in the minority lol. Different strokes for different folks.

Yeah, if it's not crowded, you could actually walk all along the path as a walking trail, then have a healthy lunch in the restaurant! LOL :O To me it was just fun to see all the staged rooms. So many great ideas.

I just messaged my daughter this morning, to ask her if she could go pick me up another 4 2x2 Kallax units so I can do one more set up like I just made, plus use two side by side for a room divider. She is the one who lives in Memphis where the store is.

which I have done. All the years I visited never dreaming I would love close by I drooled over one of the "white kitchens". When we got this house son said "now you can have your IKEA dream kitchen" which I have and love. I know it's not for everyone but I am totally delighted with it.

Wish I lived close to an IKEA store -- my storage works ok but really would like to have better storage units. Now I have plastic drawer systems from Walmart. Whatever works in a pinch!

Nice set up there! I bought two Kallax foursy units (4 openings). We (DH and I) set them up side by side, he made a plywood topper that is approx. 32" X 49" large enough for cutting mat, canister of cutters and room for pattern, pencils and such. He then got 4"X4" posts cut them to the height that was right for me to cut and painted to match the large cutting topper. We also got a 16 opening unit which holds fabric, sewing boxes and I also got a hard plastic sliding basket to "hide" stuff. I also got two of the clip on lights that Bonnie Hunter featured on her blog. I like those boxes that had the divided sections- perfect for the small cuts.

sewbizgirl 01-04-2017 05:03 PM

They also sell these LED light bars that you can stick on the 'ceilings' of each cubbyhole, if you want to light the unit. That would be cool if you used the Kallax units for display of china or knick knacks or any kind of collection.

thank you for sharing, i will have to go to ikea and check that out

I got my new sewing chair there this fall. It has a white frame and light blue cushions. It is so comfy. Made to fit me perfectly!

RedGarnet222 02-11-2017 03:47 PM

I love your new organized space. How fun to get it all so organized that you enjoy looking for something. Hubby did this for me some years ago and I love it so much. He bought the things he used at home depot and Lowes though. It makes me feel so good when I know where to go to get just what I want.
