How do you store your rulers?
I keep reading about how to store fabric but don't recall reading anything on how to store rulers. Right now, I hang mine on a hook on the wall but seems like the one I need is at the back of the hook. There's got to be a better way! HELP!

I hang mine on my leg board. You can buy a men's belt circle hanger that lets you take out the ruler you want.
|
All mine hang on my peg boards. ones I use a lot hang by themselves. My specialty rulers hang only 3 per peg. I really don't have a lot of rulers. I do have a lot of peg board. LOL
|
I use to have them hang on pegboard but now I have two blocks with slots designed for storing my rulers. I like them to be handy for using.

I like the slotted boards that are meant for rulers. I have 2 to hold all my rulers

I have wooden walls and just pounded in a couple of nails. Its works perfectly for the 20+ years we've been in this house. So much so I'd still pound nails for hanging in a room with standard sheathing :)

I store mine on the wall with the 3m hooks that doesn't mess up the wall and then you can move them when you get a new ruler!

I just stand mine up on end between a piece of furniture and some storage bins. I can get to them easily and they are not in the way or taking up otherwise valuable space in my very small room. The longer ones that I use most are easily accessible and if I need a smaller/specialty ruler it only takes a couple of minutes to sort through them.

I found a pic here on this board that someone had posted. Showed it to my son in law and he made me one. He did a great job. The top has slots in it for the rulers to fit in. Now he just has to hang it on the wall for me.

I found a magazine rack at an estate sale...works great!!!!
|
I have a vertical rack that I hang on my wall just above my cutting table. I also have a flat, horizontal rack that is next to my cutting table. These hold my big and square rullers (and a couple of weird shapes such as the FlipFlop ruler). My small ones and my specialty rulers are kept in a plastic shoe box on a shelf. I have more rulers that I know what to do with, but I really have this thing about tools - the more the merrier.

I have 2 plastic boxes. One is like the pencil boxes they sell and one is the kind they use for storing scrapbook paper. Probably not the best method but at lease I don't lose the small ones.
|
The big ones I use at my cutting table hang on my pegboard.
Small ones that I use with a small rotating mat at my ironing table fit nicely into a small open box on a small open shelf in my sewing table (I have the Janome universal table). |
I have some of the large square rulers hanging on the 3-M hooks, some of the smaller ones in the flat horizontal ruler racks, and my tall ones are standing on end in a small plastic trash bin. I have a small sewing room and everything is within easy reach of the cutting table. Do whatever is handy for you.

I hang mine on the side of my sewing machine table

Mine hang on one side of my cutting/sewing station. Love it, because they are at my fingertips when cutting and ironing. But still out of the way when sewing. And most of all I always know just where to find them, being tight on space helps me put them back to be used again another day.

I purchased a ruler organizer from a local quilt show a couple of years ago. I believe it was from "ROM Woodworking" (Not associated with). i believe they were from California. They had several sizes and also beautiful cabinets. I really like the one I have because it displays them and yet easy access for use and etc. I tried to load a picture but it is too big so if intersted I could send picture email or just do an internet search for ROM Woodworking. It has been a couple of years so maybe they have added other items also.

I cropped it and was able to post... This is the one I have from ROM woodworking. Also on the feet you can also put small rulers, I have one there but it does not show up real well. Sorry about the poor picture quality.

I hang my rulers on peg boards that are attached to the sides of my cutting table.....one side for squares and the other side for longs. My specialty rulers hang on peg board behind my ironing board as I don't use them as much but can still see where they are.
|
I put my small ones in a 12x12" plastic box you get at the fabric store. It keeps them all together, but I think that storing them in a plastic shoe box sounds like a much better idea to me. It would be easier to sort through the sizes. I, too, am a gadget gal and have more rulers than I really need.

I hang most of them in my closet on a hanger that is made to hang men's ties. You are probably familiar with them.
|
mine are in a pot lid rack from Ikea

I use an office file holder...I paid a dollar each at the Habitat Restore. They work great...

Thanks for reminding me that I needed a slotted board to organize my rulers. I just ordered one from etsy. I may need another once I gather everything all together, but one should get me a little organized for now.
|
I store my large ones on Pegboard. I put my most used small ones in a wall hung ruler holder. Finally the unusual rulers and templates are in the project boxes from JAF,
