How my daughter stored all of my fat quarters!
Eleven months of the year, my Dining Room table serves as my sewing room. I clear away my mess for Thanksgiving, and it doesn't usually reappear until right after New Years.
This year my daughter moved all of my stuff upstairs and organized a space for me. In the loft is my long arm machine. We have a huge metal desk up there that we bought over 25 years ago. She set up my machine on that desk. I've got a huge snap together plastic storage shelf near it that used to have a bunch of my hubby's junk on. She cleared away half of the shelves to put my fabric on them. The coolest thing she did was to take the CD/DVD shelf we bought her for college (she graduated in May) and sort out all of my fat quarters on the shelves by color. The little shelves are the perfect depth for my fat quarters. It makes it so easy now to just look at one section to decide which piece is most perfect for my current project. This shelf is only about 48" tall and about 24" wide, but it sure holds a ton of fat quarters on it. |
Can I adopt your daughter for a couple of weeks? That is such a wonderful gift from your wonderful daughter! Seems like you raised her right.

Niceeee daughter!

What a nice present. DD gets a big hug((((())))). If you can show us some pictures,I would love to see "your space".

That is such a thoughtful thing for her to do for you. She is special to have organized things so well for you.
I hope you share with her the positive comments about her efforts that are posted. She deserves to hear what we all think of her! I second the motion/request for pictures! |

Great dd! Would love to see her efforts!

You are so darn lucky. My daughter is afraid to go anywhere near my quilting room so I am pretty sure I'll need to do all my own organizing. I too would love to see pictures. Give her a big hug for all of us quilting moms.

What a wonderful daughter! So thoughtful and kind. Enjoy your new organized quilting space. Happy New Year to you and your daughter.

She sounds like you raised her right! So happy for you and I know it makes you feel good to know she took interest in your hobby to help you have it all organized. Enjoy it and be proud of her! (as we know you are)

Sounds awesome!! What a great daughter you have!!!!

Daughters are wonderful...Mine helped me organize my new sewing room in October...she flew down from Buffalo to help me for a week....I am so excited because she has decided to move her in about two week....
|
What a great idea. Now, if I could borrow your daughter for just a day.......LOL
|
I bought a cd shelf from IKEA to store fat quarters. It stores a lot and takes up so little space ;-) It's great!! Smart daughter!
|
That sounds wonderful. The gift of time is one of the best things that can be given.

CD holders make the best FQ storage! I use 3 of them in different sizes. One I use for napkins and other things a bit larger than FQs.
|
You are surely blessed to have such a considerate daughter! What a great Christmas gift!
|
What a nice thing to do! She must have been raised right. I love to see how people have their sewing quarters set up!
Darn, we just recently threw our cd-storage out. Perhaps I'll find something used... |
Well, Happy New Year to you!! How generous was she to do it, how giving were you to let her.
We sold a very nice wooden one at a garage sale a couple years back. Had I known I was getting so far into quilting, I would have kept it. Thanks for the reminder to look for another one. |
What a wonderful thing for your daughter to do. Now every time you sit down to stitch you can reflect on your quilting space and how she helped you accomplish that. Can she be cloned????? Blessings abound!!!!

Some people just have better organizing skills than others, and no doubt your daughter is one of these. She's also had some practice organizing small spaces if she's been living in a dorm room or a small apartment. This will serve her well in many types of careers. Still, I'd like to "rent" her for a little while to organize my space! LOL!
|
My DDs are even less organized than me so I would never expect them to do that for me. But on the other hand, if I had a plan or was to move stuff around, they would be here to help me. Last Christmas I was having trouble with my feet and the thought of numerous trips up/down stairs to decorate was overwhelming to me. They came over, helped with the tree and other decorations.
|
Wasn't that a great gift? I hope you enjoy your new space and give your daughter lots of hugs for being so thoughtful.
|
That was so nice of your daughter! one of the best things mine ever did was take down the tree and put up all the ornaments one year when I was out of the house after Christmas. I was so happy!
|
Daughters are wonderful. I have two, and they help to keep me organize. The trouble is, I am always moving things around in my sewing room and adding more storage, which causes them to do the heavy duty moving. It's in my DNA to move things at least two times a month. No cure for that. Bless our daughters.

Great idea and great daughter!

Yes - send her my way!!!!! Great daughter

Great daughter, give her a big hug from me.

I haven't looked at the actual shelf upstairs, but this one at Walmart looks like it.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-...Tower/16451698 It only cost about $28.00 too! It's just under 20" wide, 9.5" deep and 49" tall. My daughter put 3 stacks of fat quarters on each shelf. That leaves a little wiggle room for putting a few fat quarters on edge if there were a few too many to stack. |

That is a loving daughter. She knew how important it was to you to have a space where you could enjoy quilting.
