My mother made two different cutting tables and I use them both. First one is a large one using a interior door that she covered with fabric and placed on a frame that is counter height. The other is smaller using an up-cycled kitchen cabinet that she put a piece of plywood on the top and then covered with fabric and is great since there are drawers to use for organizing items in and a wonderful cutting surface that nicely fits my 24" x 36" mat. She also made sure to put wheels on everything so it is easy to clean and rearrange a room. Have fun creating your own cutting surface.

I'm pretty sure the standard height for cutting tables (JoAnn, Hancock, etc.) is 38". Maybe check out JoAnn to see if that would work for you. I wouldn't recommend sitting to cut. If the Masonite was on the bed you would necessarily have to bend to cut as there are no knee holes in the bed! Interesting challenge. Let us know how you work it out.

For several years I did not have space for a dining table in my tiny apartment and being a dedicated sewer, I got creative and bought two wood folding TV trays, and a small sheet of MDF slightly larger than my cutting mat, that fit under my double bed nicely and was not too heavy to move. When I needed to cut fabric, I set it up in my huge 'wheel chair accessible' bathroom to use. My ironing board also set up in the bathroom. (That bathroom was big enough to hold a square dance in!) Lol.

My husband made a top that fits over my ironing board and that is my cutting table. It is sturdy and just the right size for my sewing room.

I use my kitchen counter which is 36" high, it's perfect for me at 5'9". I store the cutting mat on the back of the door hanging by a pant hanger. It's interesting to read all the ideas that others have come up with.

I use a 72 x 24 work bench for my cutting/ironing table. On one end there is a 24 x 36 inch cutting mat. The other end has a 24 x 24 iron board. I covered a piece of plywood with batting and the silver iron fabric. The size works well for ironing.

The legs on the table are adjustable. Underneath the table there are two wire mesh carts on wheels that I use to store stabilizers and the embroidery threads.

Do you have a kitchen island? If so, look no further for a cutting surface. It is so handy -- you can walk around it so you don't have to reposition your fabric. It's a perfect height. I got a cutting board that's almost as big as the island. Wouldn't trade my island cutting surface for anything and it didn't cost a cent.

I saw this on another post on this topic a while back. I am getting this workbench from Harbor Freight and decking out the top for an over-sized ironing board. I purchased a kitchen island and the furniture store cut off the legs and installed locking wheels so the the it is counter height. I love it

Almost done with redoing my sewing room. The hubs installed a window A/C. Purchased an air mattress. My room with available sleeping space is 8'x9' (actual availability). I have 18" around the bed. As I said though, it's an air mattress and easy to pack away. The furniture including cutting table are easy to move. Hardwood floors make it easy to clean with a dust mop. I also now have an actual design wall which will also become a backdrop for the next time we need to put up the air mattress. Changed the color from an orangey-yellow to a light yellow. Saw an idea on one site or magazine for the double window where one side has the window A/C. It'll be like 2 mini design shades/wall. for positioning blocks. Since I change my mind a lot this seemed like a good alternative.
