My New Ironing Cabinet ...Really!

Inspired by a picture I saw of a dresser under a "Big Board" my husband found a china hutch and just used the bottom to create an ironing board the cat can't tip over. Love the extra storage!

katsewnsew 11-06-2011 05:46 PM

What a clever idea! It is gorgeous and now you have extra storage space! Lets see little kitty tip this over!!!!

Pam1111 11-06-2011 05:51 PM

Very clever! Never seem to have enough storage!

Highmtn 11-06-2011 05:55 PM

Nice! You know your iron won't get knocked off that whopper!

QuiltnLady1 11-06-2011 06:01 PM

Want to know what's funny? I have one almost exactly like that I'm trying to get rid of! I thought it would be perfect for a cutting table, but it's a bit too low. But you're right... the cat can't knock it over!! Congrats on your great find. And nope, can't have too much storage.

LindaM 11-06-2011 06:07 PM

Love it! Great find!

What is the possibality of setting it up on a platform high enought to bring the cabinet up to the right level.

Or adding feet to the bottom? I found some cute bun feet at the home improvement store...
I must be shorter than you. This cabinet was the exact height I had my ironing board set at.

Fabulous! I'm also on the hunt for something to put my big ironing board on top of once I move...I'm thinking either a taller cabinet like that or some garage shelves... It isn't going to go on top of the ironing board anymore.

Don't you love it?! I had my BF do a similar thing with a dresser that I'd used for my girls when they were babies. It had a changing table type thing on top. Now the dressers are too small to be of much use for their much larger clothing but they work great for FQ's and miscellaneous inter-facing, etc.

Yours is beautiful as well as functional!

dphelps 11-07-2011 06:32 AM

Great idea and for all the right reasons.

LuckyGemini 11-07-2011 07:48 PM

I love it! Wonder if I could use the one in my dinning room?

carolynjo 11-07-2011 08:15 PM

Hey, Mary Ann, can't you just put a board under the feet of the dresser and raise the lovely cabinet to the proper height? I wouldn't want to get rid of that pretty piece of furniture and the stuff you could store in it.

hensandhollyhocks 11-07-2011 08:34 PM

Good job! An iron saved!

BETTY62 11-07-2011 08:39 PM

Mariposa 11-08-2011 02:53 PM

Big boards are great aren't they-? Neat idea for a cabinet under it too~~

my 'too low' cutting table grew with 4 large cans of tomato sauce...and i will be adjusting an old cabinet and getting an ironing top for it before our Thursday sewing group! what a good idea! and one less thing (the ironing board, which i use mostly for folding tables, anyway) in the middle of the room.

Opal Jane 11-08-2011 03:44 PM

What a great idea. Added storage is bonus.

SherryW 11-08-2011 04:57 PM

My "Big Board" is 24" from front to back and 60" long.

The china cabinet bottom is 18" from front to back and 50" wide. It is 33" high.

Wine Woman 11-09-2011 07:02 AM

Great idea! All the extra storage would be put to use by me!

MrsBoats 11-09-2011 04:18 PM

That's a *brilliant* idea! I'm definitely saving this idea for future reference.

annthreecats 11-10-2011 05:22 AM
