My New Sewing Space

5 Attachment(s)
I've been looking at everyone's sewing spaces and I just became so inspired!! I never had a sewing space. My sewing table sat and served as a BAR for years in my dining room, with my sewing machine stored safely under it. When I started sewing again, my entire dining table served as a space. NO MORE! I moved my leather futon out of my extra bedroom/office and it is going to my mom's house! I rolled my sewing table in, bought the cutest storage unit from Target and picked blue, red, and tan fabric boxes for it. Screwed a hook into the side of the table to hang my cutting mats and rulers when not in use! Set my printer on top of my cubbies and once my DH has built my rotating thread holder, it will go right next to it! Hung a corkboard/whiteboard up, organized all my craft books and stored them in the storage under the table. Using my piano seat to sit on. The lamp you see was being tossed away at work so I grabbed it and will paint it blue to match my colors. I originally painted it purple b/c it was going into the kids' room but they didn't want it so I took it back! When the table is fully opened I will use the left side to iron on and the right side to cut on. That is the plan but I haven't done a test run yet and I still need a power strip. The other half of the room you don't see is my DH's "side" because it has a tv and his computer. I'm thinking of bringing in my laptop stand in too so I can set up. It is a very tiny room but I love the space so much. My home theme is nautical so I think a lovely nautical wall hanging would make a nice touch! I am SEW excited! :D

Your space looks great!! I use to sew from the dining room table for over 20 yrs. I also enjoying having my own studio now.

Sewfine 02-18-2013 05:36 AM

Lovely space. I have that same sewing table.

sew_Tracy 02-18-2013 05:38 AM

Awesome little space. Boy you sure keep it neat too!

LynnVT 02-18-2013 05:55 AM

Sew nice to have a dedicated place like that! I think my sewing table is the same - got it at WalMart for $99 several years ago, and just love it. Mine is in my living room, so when I'm not working on something, I can tidy it all up and no one knows it's my sewing space. Our empty bedrooms are too cold to work in during the winter, and there is no cable line up there, so I'd miss my TV as company while sewing. You are very nice to share yours with your hubby!

Looks lovely!

Sewing rooms are more important than a dining room. :)

callen 02-18-2013 07:20 AM

What a wonderful spot to create.

Amen to that. I can sew so much longer if I didn't cook and clean! An empty nester and a BF that travels does have its perks! I can sew as much as I want and eat later. Love your bookcase with the totes!

Great space. I'm sew excite for you to have a space you can create in and call your own. ENJOY!...

And your husband has his " stuff" in your sewing room because? I share a room like that with my DH. He thinks my stuff is messy! LOL,

Carol34446 02-18-2013 12:54 PM

My DH has the bigger of two spare bedrooms, so no room for company of course, and it is overflowing with "stuff" that doesn't belong in the house, and he does NOTHING with it 99.9% of the time, ticks me off, as I was supposed to have half the room. That is why I have 4 square feet., making it very hard to sew anything, and can't even get to my 1911 treadle to do anything with it.
Men, can't live with them and can't live without them, :0).

Great set up! Nice, neat, and tidy....what more does a body need? Yaa for you, and your sweet sewing room

First thing I am forced to say is that your room is WAY, WAY TOO CUTE! I can tell you put a lot of thought into your space and it is beautifully organized. Thank you.

csharp 02-18-2013 03:45 PM

You are one neat organized gal....great job.

It is so nice to have a separate sewing room. But as long as one enjoys sewing it doesn't matter where!

CathyMeyer 02-18-2013 05:54 PM

Looks great!! It will be so nice to leave your work out and just close the door!

DonnaC 02-18-2013 09:17 PM

OMG this is so funny... we were just discussing that sewing table from Wal-Mart on another thread yesterday. I ordered mine last night (it's the same as yours, the pine color) and it's supposed to be here on Wednesday! I already have my sewing room all disorganized in preparation for getting re-organized after the new table arrives. Your space is terrific and I like the way you have everything arranged. Enjoy it!

colleenancel 02-18-2013 10:13 PM

Great sewing room! I love the desk. It has so many little trays and cubbies to keep everything organized. And I especially love the fabric baskets. They have the distinct advantage of looking neat, even if the stuff inside is not! I'm sure you'll enjoy sewing there. Very neat when put away, as well.

Thanks everyone for all your comments. I completely destroyed the space today when I was sewing. There was thread everywhere! My design board was on the floor, it was crazy. And now, it is exactly back neat again!! And I even let down the sewing table can closed it up.

I had to share this with you. My side of the office is nice and neat (for once) and his side?? Bags of receipts, a snowboard, a boobie mug, a pooping reindeer toy, and other fun manly stuff. I do have to give it to him though, I'm actually taking up 2/3 of the room because in addition to my sewing space I have my library. He built this bookcase for me from scratch. And none of my craft books are on it. They all fit in my sewing table. Sigh, by the way, it is 4 a.m. where I am. I have been sitting in here since I came home from work.
